Rock wasn’t going to bring anyone back in with the excepting of maybe just watching wrestlemania.

Unless rock for some reason decided to appear every week his one-time appearance wouldn’t have changed anything long term.

And even that one time pop is worthless without the old school PPV model.

Building cody into the next ace however would have lasting implications.

I’d agree that maybe 50 to 60% of the audience near the beginning absolutely despised him as a babyface but that doesn’t mean what you think it does. He was still selling areas he was still selling merch he was still selling buys.

Now if you wanna argue that he should’ve been turned heel I’d be 100% on your side. I 1000% think by 2007 Cena should’ve turned heel and that probably would’ve made him an even bigger babyface by 2010 when he turned back again, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t their biggest draw and Cody is not getting the negative reactions that John Cena is getting.
