EXCLUSIVE: Paramount is in talks with Akiva Goldsman to write the next draft of the horror franchise, which will be called The Ring 3. The Oscar winning scribe recently did a rewrite of Insurgent, the sequel to the Lionsgate franchise hit Divergent. Based on the novel by Koji Suzuku, the film was first scripted by David Loucka, and Mean Creek‘s Jacob Estes did a substantial amount of work on the most recent draft, which convinced Paramount to make the film. with F. Javier Gutierrez directing. In the pic, Samara returns with a familiar video tape to strike terror again. Goldsman’s repped by WME. Goldsman, who most recently wrote and directed Winter’s Tale and produced Lone Survivor, is booked to direct the Blumhouse thriller Stephanie, about an orphaned young girl with girl with unworldly powers who is taken in by a man and woman who claim to be her parents. His genre roots go back further, as he exec produced three Paranormal Activity installments. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing.
