so i keep seeing conflicting things about this. I have seen people say the devil story started after he got hurt. but i cant be asked to fact check lol

I still agree with you though, and even if it started after the injury it was clearly cooking for a while.

He also didn't budge when ppl were getting impatient and just told the story they wanted to tell. and imo got a satisfying reveal for being patient

I mean, you know what it might be possible that the actual masked devil didn’t show up until after he got hurt. I’m trying to remember. I will say, though, I think the way to figure out if the general storyline was happening before he got hurt is when did Roddy and the Kingdom start to team up? If that was before Cole got hurt then I think there was always some kind of plan to do this UK betrayal of MJF.

I’ll be honest as well as far as me being impatient, because I honestly thought the reveal would’ve made more sense when MJF was facing switchblade, considering that’s where the storyline started but that being said now that switchblade has been rotated back into the angle. Yeah, probably worked out exactly how he wanted it to.

I think the only other thing I kind of have a question about is what is the devil storyline taking place when Joe MJF had the first match at grand slam? Because why would they have just help Joe win there?

Yeah to me it seems they just adapted with the crutches instead. maybe they spread it one ppv cycle but im not convinced of even that. they needed the time to wear MJF down in kayfabe (bummer a bit he was physically worn down irl too ).

all that aside, I do think this long term arc if it continues to deliver, could be on par with the hangman arc which is imo the gold standard AEW story up to this point still

Good eye. So I think if the mask was in the background before the injury that the plan was definitely there from the start I think.

The one hill I will definitely die on is that once the masked devil showed up and attack switchblade, it was never going to be anyone other than Adam Cole.

There’s actually some cool cuts of every time the devil showed up and every time Adam and MJF had a segment and every single development in the storyline pointed to Adam Cole. It was probably the most predictable storyline in Wrestling history, but I always tell people predictability doesn’t mean it’s bad. You don’t need a twist just to have a twist.

kayfabe wise, I believe Joe and the devils didn't talk until after grand slam. remember that Cole was still helping MJF then.

in non kayfabe reasons: it gave Joe the kayfabe reasons he has now to have aligned with them (he cut a post victory promo explaining why he did what he did, and the main catalyst was that mjf "used every trick in the book including interference to steal what was rightfully his" (also that he's a cold hearted son of a bitch). So Joe would not have accepted help the first time around, as it was not personal YET.

and yeah , the switchblade stuff also hurt my mark heart but now that he's opposing Undisputed Kingdom and part of the main angle immediately after a good showing in the c2, it's all forgiven
