    Are things on dollar stores actually a dollar or do you still add tax? This has no use to me in the UK but this I what I think about.

    Yea, it really isn't that bad. Iirc most states have less than 10%. I know my state, Washington, has a high sales tax (from 6.5% up to 9.5% depending on the area/store), but it also has no income tax which makes up for it heavily. Admittedly though, having to calculate sales tax into grocery shopping is a pain in the ass regardless of how little it ends up being.
