Tonight during the E! News pre-show for the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Mickey Rourke was interviewed about the support of the professional wrestling industry when it comes to "The Wrestler". Rourke said the wrestling industry has been very supportive, specifically naming Ric Flair and Roddy Piper. Rourke then said "It looks like I'm going to Houston for Wrestlemania. Y2J better look out, I'm going to kick his a-s-s".

From the Torch:

Access Hollywood confirms our earlier report this weekend that Mickey Rourke, the star of "The Wrestler," will be appearing at WrestleMania 25 in Houston.

WWE and the producers of the movie have been in close contact to have a tie-in between the Academy Award-nominated actor and WWE's signature event of the year.

"The boys from the WWE called me and asked me to do it," Rourke told Access Hollywood. "I said, 'I want to.' I'm talking with Rowdy Roddy Piper about it."

Rourke cut a preliminary promo on Chris Jericho, who could be incorporated into a program with Rourke.

"Chris Jericho, you better get in shape," Rourke added. "Because I'm coming after your ass."

The Wrestler" star Mickey Rourke was at tonight's Screen Actors Guild Awards in Hollywood and spoke about a possible appearance at WrestleMania 25.

We now have confirmation that Rourke will in fact be in Houston on April 5th. PWTorch.com reports that Rourke is "officially signed" to appear at WWE's showcase event.

This evening, Rourke spoe to Access Hollywood on the red carpet and said, “The nicest thing has been the whole wrestling community embracing us. The movie was about their world.”

He continued, “The boys from the WWE called me and asked me to do it. I said, ‘I want to.’ I’m talking with [WWE legend] Rowdy Roddy Piper about it.”

Just as he did on the E! channel's pre-show, Mickey Rourke cut another promo on Chris Jericho. "Chris Jericho, you better get in shape," Rourke said. "Because I'm coming after your ass."

-----------
So I guess it isn't just random talk then, he's officially signed.
Sounds sweet to me.

Not seeing how Mickey Rourke might be on his way to winning an Oscar and WWE can benefit from the media exposure.

Can Rourke even wrestle though? :eh: I mean, maybe he can cut a promo and stuff but I can't imagine it being too good. I'm not particular excited at all about this, especially if Rourke would go over him if this match is what comes into place.

Pretty interesting news here. Chris is going to be SO on the MONEY with his promos until Mania. With his whole honesty thing he's doing he WILL bring up Rourke's drug abuse and failures in life and will make this one of the more intriguing celebrity matches in recent history. Mark my words, you will all be wanting to see how this turns out.

He's probably not very good, but they did give him a basic training for the movie. The matches in the movie were kinda slow, but props or doing it himself. It's probable that he continued wrestling training after the movie was over. If he hadn't, he is now, lol. So, it probably won't be a good match, but he won't be some idiot who doesn't even know how to sell.

I'd rather they make it a tag team match. That way Rourke won't have to do a lot of work.

Maybe...Jericho/JBL vs HBK/Rourke? It would suck to sort of waste HBK on this match, but from a storyline perspective it actually fits quite well.

All the guys that have been involved with Rourke (Flair, Piper, Afa), have said that if Mickey Rourke wasn't an actor, he could very well be a wrestler.

Besides, you all know that WWE will go out of their way to make the match interesting. Hey, they pull out of Big Show and Floyd Mayweather a rather great match
