Undertaker talks Sting's retirement, says Vince never wanted match between them

Undertaker and Sting helped define their respective promotions during the WWF vs. WCW Monday Night War. On his Six Feet Under podcast, Undertaker praised the run that Sting had in pro wrestling.

"What a run, man," Undertaker said. "Like, I understand runs. What a run."

Undertaker said that, though WWE and AEW are in competition with each other, it's only right that WWE acknowledged Sting's legacy:

Well, there are certain people in the industry. I mean, yeah, we're in competition with a different company. I get it. But Sting's legacy is so much bigger than AEW or any of that. I mean, he deserved that. I'm happy that as a company that they acknowledged it, because it's only right.

Undertaker vs. Sting was a dream match that fans wanted for decades. It could have happened when they were in WWE together in 2015, but Undertaker said that, for whatever reason, Vince McMahon didn't want it. Sting instead lost to Triple H at that year's WrestleMania.

Undertaker said he thinks the match against Sting would have been good in 2015, but he doesn't believe it would have lived up to the expectations people had because of how late they were into their careers.

By the time Sting came in, I had lost interest in the match.

I think that’s because for a while after the streak ended, I had zero desire to see the Undertaker wrestle again

I'm not saying it's going to happen....but what if say by this time next year.....HHH decides that the last match ever for both Taker AND Sting has to be at Mania...but it's a cinematic match to hide their limitations. I think if they actually offered that to Sting, he would do it in a heartbeat.

Oh god in heaven please don't let this happen.

If Taker has one more match it needs to be an in-ring match, and if Sting has another match it should be in AEW. Sting in WWE never felt right, and Taker needs to be done he can't go anymore. But honestly both men need to stay the hell as far away from being in a wrestling match as humanly possible. Let both their sendoffs be their last match.

Me neither. Sting did what he wanted and that is all that mattered. But we can always dream.

If he would’ve passed up his Time Warner deal in 2001 and came in with the other WCW guys, that really would’ve been the perfect time. The heart of WCW vs the heart of the WWF.

But again, who’s gonna pass on free money.

Realistically if they had Goldberg, Sting, Luger, DDP, Scott Steiner as the 5 for Survivor Series, it could’ve been cool.

Plus it's not like you couldn't bring them in in 2002 either to finish up that story.
