It's unsurprising Minnesota's attendance would be doing so well by virtue of having an established deep hockey culture and by far the biggest arena in the league.

New York might just be a really bad fit for the league but yeah for a women's league, the average overall attendance being 4,705 is not bad at all. Especially with smaller arenas and lower rent. Keeping the league to 6 teams is also very smart play because it keeps contracts and running costs lower for a league that desperately needs to minimize gross expidenture in the early years.

A TV deal in the US isn't a be all end all, especially if YouTube is serving as a free and cheap alternative too. This year isn't gonna tell us if the league will be financially viable in the long run; that will rely on season 2 and 3 and whether they do end up getting a TV deal at some point

So to expand upon this point, I think the PWHL is going to be just fine.

New York's 4-0 win over host Toronto on Jan. 1 was shown on CBC, Sportsnet, and TSN. The league said the game had a combined average audience of 879,000 viewers.

2.9 Million viewers in Canada alone is mind boggling for Women's sports, but hockey is a national pasttime there so it's no surprise tbh. If the ratings even stagnate around 500k, that's still a massive success.

At some point the teams will get their own logos and team names, but the league execs rightfully have stated that it's not a priority at the moment, since that would be a bit more of a cost to have a logo and trademarked name ready to go, when the league is brand new.

Also the rumored names sucked. Sometime I'm genuinely considering drawing up my own concepts for the teams, just need to get ideas and practice.

Tbh I don't think a terrible idea is to just take the names from their NHL counterparts, and just have a partnership with them. Though that's a lot of legal licensing to work around so it obviously wouldn't be a great financial investment.
