According to this Fightful reported that Alexander specifically asked for that option not to be used. I do not believe this to be a work.

If this is true, and Alexander said he was open to just negotiating and they locked him in anyway can you imagine the message this sends to anyone else that’s currently thinking about TNA?

In sports, contracts are written with a team option or a player option to re-up for one more year. And when the team holds the option, the player doesn’t really have any say so.

I don’t recall too many instances of this in wrestling outside of guys missing time due to injury. But this isn’t a case of that. I’m sure Josh would have loved to have tested the market and see how much money he could’ve made.

I hope he has a kick ass year so this time next year everyone will have to back the money truck to him

it is indeed rare but I believe, for example, that a few AEW talent have had the option both exercised ( Brian Cage iirc, few others) and then in other cases not exercises (Cody, for example, could have been optioned to stay an extra year)

If those hourglasses were legit and I believe they are, this news I think just galvanized their commitment.

I forgot it happened to Cage a few years back. iirc him and his wife weren’t exactly happy either.

Because by them picking up that 3rd year option, it locks Josh into whatever money is initially agreed upon. He might not have even wanted to leave but wanted to renegotiate dollars

to be fair, was only his wife vocally bitching online

and AEW ended up being proven right - he's been amazing since the re-up and has gotten booked much better and seems very happy now
