PWInsider said:
WWE scripted Edge into last night's Raw as a last minute idea as the company had flown him into Detroit, Michigan to attempt to negotiate a new contract as Edge's current deal expires on 4/30.

WWE sources indicate that once stories of Edge's contract expiring became public after PWInsider.com broke the story, the company sent John Laurinaitis scrambling to bring Edge into TV for face to face discussions.

Last week, a WWE source indicated that the issue at hand between the two sides was not money but the "respect" shown towards Edge with the initial offer made to him. The offer, according to the source, was said to be lower than similar deals given to other retired WWE talents, such as Shawn Michaels. The source last week referred to it as the company "underestimating" that Edge would simply sign whatever he was offered.

Edge noted on the mic last night that his contract was "days" away from expiring. There has been no official word as to whether he has come to terms with WWE for a new deal.

I had a feeling Edge being there may have been due to him possibly re-negotiating his contract with WWE. It'll be interesting to see if he does re-sign with WWE or walks away and does his own thing as Adam Copeland.

Interesting that he noted that he wouldn't even be employed with WWE in two days in his promo.

Overall, while very random, the promo was really good, had me into it the whole time.

WWE needs to do things like this more often. It threw a wrench right in the middle of the story and didn't hurt it just added another dimension.

Was anybody else thinking that Edge was going to show up during that stand off with Cena and Lesnar? I was totally waiting for it.

While the promo was great I thought it would have been more suited at the end of the show up to that point I didn't really see the Cena having a huge a crisis

Hopefully they can work out a deal so that we get to see Edge throughout the year. He seems like someone who would save and not waste his money so he probably doesn't need it but won't sign unless it is a fair deal for him. It is pretty good that these retired guys can make decent money by simply appearing a few times a year on tv and then promoting the company at WM Axxess.

Yeah I didn't get that either. Didn't seem like Cena was nearly as down on himself as Edge made it seem like.

It was a good idea on Monday, it just wasn't very well exculcated. And I agree that it should have happened at the end of the show.

I agree, but it is possible that they still do seem him playing a big role other wise they wouldn't keep featuring him on TV. My problem is that they keep teasing us, but then don't make anything of him. I think he will sign, but certainly he has other irons in the fire.

I don't really see how they can use a guy like Edge like they do with Michaels, Austin etc.

If I could make money to appear on RAW a few times a year, that would be awesome.

With his mic skills and how over he is with the fans, I think WWE can def use him, but I either want to see him do something consistant or take a long time off so that when he does return it will have a greater impact.

He could be used in a multitude of ways. Commentary, managerial, road agent, one offs, and the big one to prevent him from doing any of those things for TNA
