Source:According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, rumors suggest representatives for WWE's Sonya Deville are pushing to get her the role of Batwoman.
If rumors are to be believed, it appears representatives for WWE superstar Sonya Deville (real name Daria Rae Berenato) are pushing hard to land her acting roles, including that of DC's Kate Kane following Ruby Rose's departure from The CW's Batwoman.
According to Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Deville's talent agency -- Anderson Group Public Relations -- is pushing her for various acting roles, with rumors suggesting that she could actually be in the running for the role of Batwoman. Notably, after it came to light that Batwoman lead Ruby Rose had departed the Arrowverse series, Deville took to Twitter to express her interest in taking over, simply writing, "Give me a shot at Batwoman," as well as tagging The CW, Batwoman's producers and various news outlets.
As far as the Obverver's report goes, there is one curious bit -- namely the fact that it says Deville is being pushed to star as Batwoman in a "new" television series. However, this could simply be a miscommunication on the part of either the publication or its sources. Of course, also keep in mind that while Meltzer and the Observer are known for their sources (something that has contributed to the publication's longevity), all rumors should be taken with a grain of salt until there is official word. The direct quote from the newsletter can be found below.
A mixed martial artist and the first openly gay female wrestler in WWE, Deville cut her teeth with the company by competing in the sixth season of Tough Enough in 2015. Later that year, she signed a contract with WWE and began performing under its NXT developmental brand, before being called up to the main roster in late 2017. In the 2019 edition of Pro Wrestling Illustrated's PWI Female 100 -- which ranks the 100 best female wrestlers in the world -- Deville came in at #60. She was also ranked #21 in Sports Illustrated's top 30 female wrestlers of 2018. Additionally, Deville does have acting experience, having starred in such films as Fratello and The Honour, the latter of which she also produced.Deville, who is repped by Anderson Group Public Relations, is attempted to be pushed for acting roles and is in particular being pushed by her agency as rumored to be in he [sic] running for the role of “Batwoman” on a new TV series
