F4Wonline.com reports that WWE officials want Bruno Sammartino to be the headliner for the 2013 Hall of Fame class from the New York City area. WWE has already contacted Sammartino about being inducted but we do not know his response to them yet.

Sammartino’s past with WWE is a troubled one. He hasn’t worked with them since the late 1980?s and has been very critical of Vince McMahon and the WWE product over the years. Sammartino has turned down several projects from WWE over the years, declined invitations to shows and spoken out against them in the media.

So far this year, only one other name has been rumored for the 2013 Hall of Fame – Rena “Sable” Lesnar. The former WWE Women’s Champion was rumored around WrestleMania time this year when it became clear that Brock Lesnar, her husband, would be performing at WrestleMania 29.

Honestly if one guy deserves to be in the HOF it is Sammartino, longest reigning WWE champion has to mean something, he held the title for 11 years over two reigns. To bad that his relationship with Vince and WWE is strained.

He worked for Vince McMahon senior when WWE was WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation.) He has the record for longest WWE title reign, he held it two times and if you put those two reigns together he held it over 11 years.

He is said to be pretty damn healthy. Still big as a ox. Their is a story of him and the Iron sheik beating 6 football players backstage at a event when Bruno was 59.

He doesn't believe that the WWE Hall of Fame is an actual Hall of Fame. Can't say I disagree with him.

Sammartino's a beast. I also heard those stories about him and Sheik beating all those guys up. He was known for being really tough. I know why he's against wrestling. He's been complaining about the direction it took in the 80s with all the steroids and such, probably the cartoony characters as well. I think he believes that real wrestlers are missing. And it's also true, him and Vince have never been the best of friends or anything. But he's a guy who deserves to be in the HoF, for sure. I'm not sure whether he'll accept or not, but I'd love to see him there.

He keeps turning them down, and will likely continue to do so. They could always just induct him as a honor, without him actually being there in person, if he keeps declining the offer, but I guess they think that wouldn't mean as much.

If that's the case, they'll probably induct him after he passes.
