http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...show-can-it-be-a-hit-among-non-wrestling-fansWWE’s newest show Total Divaswill be airing on Sundays this summer on E!, but it may be popular among both wrestling and non-wrestling fans.
The original plan was likely to see this show on the WWE Network, but the company has yet to be able to launch the station. The Total Divas show seems to be an intriguing show for the female demographic of wrestling and non-wrestling fans. According to RantSports.com,
The channel finds a good deal of success with its female demographic from the ages of 18-35, due to the success of such shows as The Kardashians and The Real Housewives of Atlanta. This is a demographic that doesn’t scream wrestling fans when one thinks of the typical WWE fan. There are the children who enjoy the PG Era and John Cena. Then, there are the older men who grew up in the Attitude Era or earlier. Women from ages 18-35 will be introduced to the Bella Twins, Funkadactyls, Natalya and others in this new WWE show.
Why would women in this age group be interested in Total Divas?
Because the show looks at the real life behind the scenes of Divas with various levels of experience. The Bella Twins are the most experienced, and at least one of their boyfriends will be making some appearances.
Natalya is also very experienced, coming from the famous Hart family. Then, you have some of the younger Divas in the Funkadactyls and NXT rookies Eva Marie and Jo-Jo Offerman.
Women in this age group enjoy watching the real lives of celebrities like the aforementioned Kardashians and Real Housewives. Why wouldn’t they enjoy the real lives of celebrities who are athletic, get physical and entertain millions all over the world?
This will be an interesting way for all types of fans to see the life of professional wrestlers in and out of the ring. Watching how a professional wrestler balances the crazy schedule of WWE events and media appearances, while having a personal life at all is intriguing. However, it remains to be seen how much of the show is reality and how much is scripted.
WWE has a reputation to keep as the company continues to provide family-friendly entertainment in the PG Era. The company must find a way to provide an entertaining show that brings fans behind the scenes without unveiling too much, while also protecting its reputation.
Perhaps having the WWE Total Divas show on the E! Network will accomplish two important things for the company. First, it will hope to bring in a new demographic that could translate to new wrestling fans. Second, it could be the start of a revitalization for the Divas division.
If the show is a hit with both wrestling and non-wrestling fans, these people will want to see more Divas. The easiest way to give fans more Divas is on WWE TV. Interestingly, Divas champion Kaitlyn and No. 1 contender AJ Lee are not expected to be on the show.
Perhaps one of the Total Divas will be champion in the future, but it could be because of the non-wrestling fans turning in to the new WWE show on the E! Network.
Do you think the WWE Total Divas reality show can be a hit among non-wrestling fans? Why or why not? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.
