ION Television’s new weekly program, WWE Main Event, will kick off with one of the biggest matches of the year. Announced on SmackDown, WWE Champion CM Punk will face World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus in the main event – the first-ever meeting between the two Superstars!

WWE Main Event debuts this Wednesday on ION Television. The hour-long program will feature in-ring action, commentary, exclusive behind-the-scenes content and continue to build on the events of Monday Night Raw, leading directly into Friday Night SmackDown, making Wednesday night appointment viewing for the WWE Universe.

Don’t miss the huge featured contest – Champion vs. Champion – on the debut on WWE Main Event this Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at 8/7 p.m. CT.
Pretty huge match to kick this off for them and very much looking forward to it should be a great match. Not really sure who wins this as Sheamus is kind of unstoppable this year and Punk is in the middle of a big heel push.

Well with a show like this and a match like that... hopefully the viewing audience will be pretty nice.

This does seem like how Heat began. Nice and big and then it became a jobber show. Or how WWE first tried to bring back Saturday Night's Main Event leading to WrestleMania 22 when they tried to make it huge then by the 3rd one it was a complete crap show. So we'll see how long they try to keep things this big for the show.

That is a massive match to give away for free on television, WWE are very serious about getting a good debut rating for Main Event. They are available in 100 million homes so that is pretty good reach for a bonus show like this. It won't be too hard for WWE to produce it so it should work well for them.

I struggled to find any ratings figures for ION to see what kind of ratings their current programming pulls in so it is tough to predict what WWE could do first up.

Loves the opening video package for Punk with him in OVW. I also loved them showing Sheamus as more than just a Irish brawler. They put over both guys well before the match. Miz and Cole are good as the announce tandem.

Agree with all this, also like the opening video and song.

The Punk/Sheamus match was SO DAMN GOOD! It got around 20 minutes, and I love it, you guys should definitely check it out. It's so hilarious that it wasn't actually the main event though, it opened the show, but Cole still referred to it as the main event, yet there's a match after it :lmao

Ell they are still interviewing Punk post match. The tag tourney match is going last but it will get what 10mins total time dedicated while Sheamus and Punk had 40.

it going on last makes the tourney seem important to a casual I guess though

I enjoyed the Tourny match, especially Kidd's stuff in it. Wrong team definitely won though, but I don't really care since Kidd and Gabriel looked awesome and Ryder and Santino are going to lose to Rhodes Scholars anyway.

Great match to kick off the first show, champion vs. champion and the fact it is a first time meeting is a big selling point, and pleased it got so long.

Is this show availble in the UK, if so when is it showing and can I see it online? Having just started uni I don't have a tv in my room here.
