At Fatal 4-Way, Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre will battle to determine once-and-for-all who has the right the wear the illustrious title around his waist.
The fury between the two intense Superstars began after McIntyre’s brutal attack on Matt Hardy provoked SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long to strip him of his title and fire him. One week later, it was Kingston who overcame Christian to capture the vacant title in a hard-fought Intercontinental Championship Tournament.
But, Kofi’s celebration was cut short when McIntyre hand-delivered a letter from Mr. McMahon, reinstating him to the roster and giving him back his title. Kofi eventually went on to officially capture the championship at Over the Limit against McIntyre. However, when the Scottish Superstar invoked his rematch clause the following week, a disruption involving Matt Hardy led to more than a victory for Kofi. It also prevented closure in the highly volatile conflict.
Two days before Fatal 4-Way, a combination of cruelty and unlimited backing from WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon freed McIntyre to utterly humiliate Teddy Long. With no fear of reprisal – armed with his own private security force – McIntyre then carried out a vicious onslaught on both Kofi Kingston and Matt Hardy. Could the “Chosen One†could use similar methods in order to tip the scales in his favor when he tries to recapture his title?
Kingston’s style and unique in-ring electricity have set him apart from the pack. His high-flying, high-impact offense, mixed with a charismatic personality, has brought him tremendous accomplishment and the love of the WWE Universe. But, will he ultimately triumph over the ruthless McIntyre?
Anointed by Mr. McMahon himself, Drew McIntyre intends to confirm every bit of the faith that the WWE Chairman has bestowed upon him. From the first night he stepped in the ring, the “Chosen One†has turned Friday nights upside down, using his tremendous skill and merciless tactics to plow down anyone who gets in his way. McIntyre is hell-bent on using every bit of his ruthless aggression to reclaim the title and reassert himself as one of the top Superstars on SmackDown.
Both Kingston and McIntyre head to Fatal 4-Way, determined to prove that they are the best. But who will prove it by walking out of the bedlam with the storied title in their grasp? Find out at Fatal 4-Way, Sun. June 20 at 8/7 CT, only on pay-per-view.
