There has been talk within WWE about possibly dropping the "Hell in a Cell" pay-per-view event after this year. The match itself would stick around, but be used more as a gimmick match rather then an actual pay-per-view event. This topic has been brought up several times in the past.
I'd be in favor. The PPV usually blows.

I agree with the move and wish they'd do the same with the Elimination Chamber PPV. Yes, I know the chamber match provides a good reason for someone qualifying for whatever world title the Rumble winner isn't challenging for, but still, it wears out the specialness of the gimmick when it's an annual thing.

Thank god for that might actually give some prestige back to a classic match.

Good. Hasn't been too good of a PPV in the past.

I quite enjoy gimmick ppvs and this is one of my more favourite gimmick matches. (based on 90's and early 2000's nostalgia) Im not sure how to feel about this. Sure I'll still get to see the match, but there is nothing saying I'm guaranteed to see one every year.

Finally, someone used logic and realized how much of a gimmick HIAC is and how it shouldn't be "well, it's that time of the year, have your first match ever in the most violent stipulation possible" and stuff.

Hell in a Cell is one of my favorite matches and it's a shame that they can't put a decent PPV together with that kind of match

Hahaha almost hope so. Shows like this are a necessary evil since they sell better than non-gimmicked B-shows, don't think it's as big a deal since there's still stipulations out there that aren't as watered down by these things (like Last Man Standing) but as Leo said they usually mess the show up anyway.

This year they've kinda done it right though. The Cell is the perfect cap to Punk and Heyman, while a stipulation was desperately needed for yet another Bryan/Orton confrontation (maybe not the Cell, but a stipulation). Would be kind of funny for them to finally do it right before they just cancel the show

Yeah, at least this year the HIACs make sense.

Noo, I don't think Hell In A Cell should be dropped seen as Over The Limit was dropped this year anyways though we could do with Elimination Chamber being dropped (not likely).

While, as referenced by Rain and Leo C before me, this year's HIAC matches (at least Punk vs. Ryback/Heyman and Orton vs. Bryan) make sense (less so ADR vs. Cena, but...), it would be a great idea to get rid of this PPV as a concept. I'm not generally a fan of the gimmick PPV, but I do think that Elimination Chamber (to an extent) and Money in the Bank both work (although I do miss the MITB match at Wrestlemania).

The Hell in a Cell match was created to be a be-all, end-all type of match, the "most violent atmosphere in this business", and, when you stipulate that you're going to have one PPV a year where you'll have 2 or 3 of them in one night, it just robs it of the special feeling that competitors like Taker, Foley, and HHH gave the match. Also, the PPV's existence basically keeps it out of the realm of possibility for important feuds during the rest of the year. I thought HHH-Lesnar 3 should have been a Hell in a Cell match, but I think that couldn't happen because...well..."we've got a PPV for that!"
