WWE is considering crowning a new King and Queen of the Ring.

Our own Dave Meltzer reported in Friday's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that WWE has discussed bringing back a King of the Ring PPV that would host both the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments.

"There is talk of bringing back the King of the Ring tournament with a show that would be both King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring," Meltzer wrote.

Vince McMahon dropped the KOTR PPV after it drew weak numbers in 2002. It would return in 2015 as a WWE Network special, however.

"Today, with no need to have PPVs draw as separate buys, things like not putting on shows that didn’t draw, or having to do the shows in prime time since most of the money comes from the U.S., but now the money is guaranteed by Peacock, changes the dynamic of having the consistent 8 p.m. Eastern time start," Meltzer continued.

In 2021, WWE's King of the Ring and Queen's Crown tournament finals took place at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, with the rest of the tournament airing on episodes of Raw and SmackDown. Zelina Vega became the first wrestler to win the Queen's Crown tournament and Xavier Woods defeated Finn Balor to be crowned King.

Would be interesting to see how they try and do it should they bring it back. I feel like they would want it as a standalone PLE, but having to change up the name to get the Queens part in could be difficult. That's kind of why it's a good fit on the Crown Jewel PLE in all honesty.
