According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Madison Square Garden is under consideration for hosting this year's WWE SummerSlam.
On Monday, PWInsider reported that WWE's big summer pay-per-view is set for Sunday, August 22nd with the location yet to be finalized. Last month, Sports Illustrated reported the plan was for SummerSlam to be held in front of a live crowd.
The legendary New York City venue hosted the very first SummerSlam in 1988 featuring The Mega Powers (Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage) vs. The Mega Bucks (Andre The Giant and Ted DiBiase) with Jesse Ventura as special guest referee.
They brought the August PPV back to MSG in 1991 (Hogan and Ultimate Warrior vs. Sgt. Slaughter, General Adnan and Col. Mustafa with Sid Justice as special referee) and 1998 (WWE Champion Steve Austin vs. Undertaker).
Originally scheduled for Boston, MA, but canceled due to the pandemic, last year's event was held at the ThunderDome at Orlando's Amway Center.
