Being a fan of that previous era, WWE title and World Heavyweight Title as the two big belts for the brand split just feels right to me. Happy you've gone down that path.

A big night for The Usos. Multiple attacks and confrontations. I liked the one on LA Knight the most, as now Knight gets to rub shoulders with The Bloodline. Getting three way tag vibes from Owens/Zayn and The Profits teaming up to fight The Usos off. I'd be down for that at some point in the future for sure.

Push JD McDonagh to the moon please. You're off to a good start at least.

Not much in terms of Universal title hype tonight outside of Kross, but that's okay because this scene just feels really fresh which is great.

Solid edition of SD.

SmackDown from Columbus!

Question about the World Heavyweight Championship. Triple H seemed to imply it is THE SAME title that was once awarded to him... so is your WHC continuing the lineage of the old WHC instead of starting as a new title from scratch? Because if so... hell yeah brother.

Let me get the Karrion Kross thoughts out of the way now. I've been honest about my difficulty connecting with him... BUT, I think this might have been your most effective use of him yet. Maybe it's because Cody and Seth weren't here, so he had a solo promo spotlight and the solo main event spotlight with a big win over Braun. Idk. But it worked for me for the first time here, so kudos!

JD getting a promo package after consecutive wins to start his main roster run is smart. We need to learn more about him! It's easy to see that JD is someone you believe in and probably have real plans for, so please keep sprinkling in this character work for him.

The tag team scene really was the main course of this show. I vaguely remember The Bloodline would randomly have these nights of terror where they would show up and kinda wreck shop to make a point, so these actions felt very in character and believable for them. Especially considering how bad things are for the family with Usos AND Roman losing the belts at Mania. Tensions gotta be high. I thought for sure the Owens/Montez match was going to end in a double DQ or something, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Montez actually get the win! Even if it's not how he would've liked. I'm curious is there a reason why the Usos gave Profits this win? Was it just to fuck with KO and Sami who are their true rivals? Regardless.. it's better than a non-finish any day.

This felt like a very focused episode. Not that others didn't, I just think the through line of the Bloodline really made this SmackDown stand out more from other episodes you've posted. Good show overall, and I'm ready for Backlash!

Yes I'm planning to continue the previous World Heavyweight Championship lineage. I thought it was weird WWE didn't.

The Usos basically just wanted to screw with KO and Sami as their true rivals. Plus they've beaten The Profits a few times, so in my mind they really don't fear them.

Monday Night Raw April 24th 2023, Live from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois

As Raw comes on the air, the announcers welcome us to the show before the music of the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes hits! The fans cheer loudly as Cody makes his way out onto the stage and heads down the ramp to the ring. Cody enters the ring, looking sharp in his suit with both titles around his waist. He soaks in the cheers for a minute before speaking up, asking the fans what they wanna talk about? He says he knows what he wants to talk about, this title match at Backlash. He says so far since they became #1 contenders, Karrion Kross has established himself as a major threat to him and Seth by taking them out every chance he gets, and forcing them to work together to stop him. Seth meanwhile, showed he's not to be trusted when he stomped him last week.

Cody says the message has been received from both guys but he has a message of his own, he didn't spend years busting his ass to get to this point just to fumble right away. He spent years to get to this point and finish his story, but now a new book has started and it's where he establishes himself as an all time great champion. Suddenly, Seth's music hits and he comes strolling out onto the stage. Seth says he's so sick of hearing Cody talk about his story, he did it, he beat Roman Reigns. But like Cody said, the story is over and now he's taking that title and getting back on top where he belongs. Cody goes to speak, but as he does, Karrion Kross's music hits!

Kross comes out and talks about how they're both wrong and the new story will be one of darkness and despair when he knocks them both out and becomes champion. He then turns to Seth and calls him a clown. He says after he knocks Seth out at Backlash maybe Seth will stop being a clown and become a disciple for him. Seth laughs and says he's a follower for nobody and dares Kross to face him tonight if he wants to run his mouth. Kross accepts, but Adam Pearce pops up on the tron and confirms it, but also makes Cody Rhodes the special guest ref for the match. Raw goes to break shortly after.

After the break, we go backstage to Becky Lynch in the interview area where she's asked about what happened to Lita last week. She says she doesn't know who did it, but someone took Lita out. She was injured last week in the mystery attack. She promises to find out who did it, and Trish Stratus comes in and offers to help her to figure out who took out Lita. Becky agrees and we head back to the ring for our first match of the night.

Match #1:
Singles Match
Nikki Cross vs Sonya Deville w/ Chelsea Green

A fairly short match. Nikki starts hot by tackling Sonya and pounding on her, until Sonya shoves her off and bails out of the ring to re-group. Chelsea comes over to check on Sonya...but Nikki comes off the top rope and dives onto both champs with a diving crossbody! Nikki beats her chest before throwing Sonya back into the ring, but Chelsea grabs Nikki, who spins around and screams in her face, causing Chelsea to run away in fear! Nikki rolls back into the ring now...but Sonya hits a sliding kick to the face!

The finish comes a couple minutes later after Sonya has been in control of the match, and she hits a spinebuster! Sonya covers...but Nikki kicks out at 2! Sonya now goes to the corner, stalking Nikki as she gets up and Sonya tries a spear...but Nikki kicks her in the face to block! Nikki now grabs the head of Sonya...and hits a tornado DDT coming off the ropes! Nikki now drags Sonya up and places her feet on the top rope, looking for The Purge Swinging Neckbreaker...but Chelsea is on the apron and grabs her partner's feet to block it!

Nikki goes down but gets back up as Chelsea pulls Sonya onto the ring apron and Nikki realizes what happened and Chelsea taunts her...but Nikki comes running and tackles Chelsea off the apron, falling through the ropes with her! Nikki slams the head of Chelsea into the mats on the floor, then picks her up and throws her against the barricade! Chelsea is down and Nikki now rolls back into the ring...but walks right into a Jumping Kick from Sonya! Sonya covers and gets the pin!

Winner via pinfall: Sonya Deville!

After a break, we go backstage to the Women's Champs, Rhea Ripley and Asuka. Rhea mentions how tonight they'll be teaming up to face their Backlash challengers, Zelina Vega and Bianca Belair in a tag match. Rhea says the two of them are the champs for a reason, they're the most dominant women in WWE. She respects Bianca, but as for Zelina? She's just a pipsqueak and will be the reason they lose tonight. Asuka now speaks up and says Bianca wasn't ready for Asuka at WrestleMania, and won't be at Backlash either. She promises victory tonight as well, and says nobody is ready for Asuka and Mami. Rhea smirks as the camera cuts away to the parking lot.

In the parking lot, we see Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley brawling! Both men are trading punches as security tries to stop them, but anytime a security guard grabs either one of them, they deck them! Lashley takes advantage of two guards grabbing Brock and jumps on him, taking him down! Lashley lands a few punches before getting up and telling Brock he's gonna regret ever pissing him off. Lashley now pops open a car trunk...and pulls out a tire iron!

Brock gets back to his feet and Lashley smacks him in the ribs with the tire iron! Brock is doubled over, and Lashley picks him up...and hits a spinebuster onto the hood of a car! Lesnar goes down! Adam Pearce now comes running with refs and security guards, and they grab Lashley, and the force of 8 men holding him back is enough to stop his rampage! Adam Pearce tells him to save it for Backlash, but Lashley says he doesn't wanna wait and tries to break free, but Adam Pearce threatens to cancel the Fight Pit Match! Lashley starts to calm down...but Brock Lesnar is now standing on the car and jumps off and wipes everybody out!

Brock Lesnar now throws the guards away and picks up the tire iron, and smacks Lashley across the back with it multiple times! Lashley yells out in pain as Brock scoops him up...F5 onto the car! Brock laughs and says he'll see Bobby at Backlash if he can even make it, and hops in his car and drives off as Raw goes to break.

scxx7hp.gif

Back from the break, we go backstage to Damage CTRL, who are plotting about Bayley's upcoming match against Candice LeRae. Suddenly Becky Lynch walks up and shoves Bayley! Becky says she knows them well enough to know it was them who took out Lita last week! Bayley laughs and says if they were gonna take her out, they would have taken out Becky at the same time. Besides in case Becky forgets, they beat Becky and the has beens at WrestleMania, they've moved on. Becky doesn't believe them, and Dakota threatens they'll hurt Becky right now if she doesn't watch herself...when suddenly someone yells for help!

Becky runs off, as Damage CTRL go the opposite way towards the ring. Becky goes down the hallway and finds Trish Stratus face down on the ground! Becky checks on Trish, as do doctors. Becky now asks Maxxine Dupri who did this, and Maxxine says she doesn't know, she just heard something and came to check it out and saw Trish down. Becky looks angry and we cut to the ring for our second match.

Match #2:
Singles Match
Candice LeRae vs Bayley w/ Damage CTRL

As the bell rings, Candice goes right after Bayley for attacking her recently, but Bayley bails from the ring to avoid her and hides behind Dakota and Iyo. Candice looks annoyed...but then decides to dive onto them, wiping all 3 women out! Candice is fired up and grabs Bayley, and throws her into the steps! Candice yells at Bayley about attacking her, then throws her into the ring, but Dakota tries to clothesline her...but Candice ducks and shoves Kai into the ring post! Candice threatens Sky, who backs off and lets Candice get in the ring..but as she does Bayley grabs her for a small package pin...but Candice kicks out at 2!

A couple minutes later, Bayley has taken control of the match after the hot start from Candice, and hits her with a neckbreaker. She goes for a pin but only gets 2. Bayley smacks LeRae across the face a couple times and tells her she should have taken her offer to join Damage CTRL when she had the chance. She drags her to her feet now, and snaps off the Bayley to Belly! Bayley covers...but Candice kicks out again at 2! Bayley is feeling frustrated now and runs her hands through her hair and pounds the mat. She now goes up top, potentially looking for her elbow drop...but Candice gets up and jumps up top, firing a couple punches at Bayley before hitting her with Ms. LeRae's Wild Ride! Candice covers after the top rope swinging neckbreaker...but Dakota pulls the ref out of the ring!

The finish comes shortly after this when Candice slides out of the ring and throws Kai into the barricade before stomping on her, but with Bayley distracting the ref, Iyo Sky comes running and takes out Candice with a dropkick! Iyo now holds Candice back as Kai gets up and kicks her in the face! They throw her into the ring now and Bayley pulls her up...Rose Plant! She covers and steals the win!

Winner via pinfall: Bayley!

As we come back from the commercial, we go right back to the ring for our next match as Johnny Gargano tries to complete the third and final step towards getting a match with Austin Theory at Backlash in an Extreme Rules Match with "The Giant" Omos.

Match #3:
Extreme Rules Match
Johnny Gargano vs Omos w/ MVP

A true david vs goliath match here as Omos uses his massive size to dominate early on and throw Gargano around the ring, before eventually picking him up and tossing him over the top rope and to the floor. Omos flexes and roars as Gargano sits against the barricade, wondering how to attack him before deciding to grab a kendo stick from under the ring. He slides into the ring with it and ducks a swat from the giant, and smacks him in the side with the stick to no effect! He cracks him with it one more time to no effect before going for a third...but Omos catches the stick, yanks it out of his hand and breaks it in half over his knee!

A few minutes later, Omos is still in control, bringing the fight to the floor and setting up a table after launching Gargano spine first into the ring post. MVP comes over and taunts Johnny, telling him he won't be going to Backlash as he watches him pull himself to his feet, but Omos is on him and scoops him up, looking to launch him face first into the post now...but Johnny slides down the back of the giant and shoves him into the post face first! He has a chance! Johnny pulls Omos back by his pants, then rams him into the post again! Johnny now gets on the apron, superkick! Omos falls to his knees! Johnny now backs up...then comes running and cannonballs into the big man and finally knocks him down!

A couple minutes later, after beating the hell out of a downed Omos with a chair, Johnny has somehow managed to drag Omos up and onto the table. He now climbs up to the top turnbuckle...and hits a frog splash to put Omos through it! Johnny might have an opening to win if he can get Omos into the ring! Johnny gets up and starts trying to drag his opponent up...but MVP comes over with his cane, and cracks Gargano in the back with it! Gargano goes down and MVP laughs!

The finish comes shortly after with the fight back in the ring and a table set up in the corner and Omos holding a chair as Gargano lays on the mat after getting smacked across the back with it. MVP now throws a trash can into the ring and tells Omos to finish this. Omos puts the chair down, then picks up Gargano and scoop slams him onto it! Omos places a foot on the chest of Gargano...but he kicks out at 2! Omos looks surprised, but pulls Gargano back up, and lifts him up for the Choke Bomb...but Gargano turns it into a DDT onto the trash can! The finish comes a few minutes later after MVP has again hit Johnny with his cane, but this time Dexter Lumis comes out from under the ring and chokes him out! Dexter now helps Johnny up, and together they throw Omos through the table! Johnny now covers with Dexter and he gets the pin!

Winner via pinfall: Johnny Gargano!

After the match: Johnny Gargano is helped to his feet by Lumis, who raises his arm in victory. Austin Theory now pops up on the tron and congratulates Johnny, saying he somehow survived tonight but at what cost? He's barely able to stand. He says at Backlash he proves he's better than Johnny and beats him once again, and after he does, he never wants to hear from Johnny again. Raw now goes to break.

scxx7hp.gif

As we come back, we go to a hallway backstage where Bianca Belair and Zelina Vega stand. Bianca says tonight is their chance to send a message to the champs that they're in trouble this weekend at Backlash. She says she has all the confidence in the world in Zelina tonight, and she's going to show Asuka why she is the EST and will take back her title at Backlash. Zelina now speaks up and mentions how Rhea keeps discounting her. She says Rhea is underestimating what's gonna happen when she's going 1 on 1 with a pissed off latina and promises to shock the world at Backlash and become the Smackdown Women's Champion because she's not just fighting for her, she's fighting for all of Puerto Rico. We now cut away to another hallway backstage.

Elsewhere, we see Nikki Cross holding her head as she walks backstage, when Piper Niven comes up to her. Piper asks her what she was thinking facing Sonya tonight? Basically walking into a handicap match. Nikki says she wanted to prove herself and shut them up. She says she would have won if Chelsea didn't get involved, but she'll get a match with Chelsea and handle her. Piper sighs and says no she won't...because she already talked to Adam Pearce and next week, they will reunite to face Chelsea and Sonya in a non title match. Nikki smiles and says really? Piper wants to play with her again? Piper warns her it’s gonna be 1 night only but yes she has her back vs the champs. Nikki hugs her and we cut away to the ring.

Match #4:
Tag Team Match
The Good Brothers w/ Mia Yim vs Los Lotharios

A short match here. At the start, Angel and Humberto avoid fighting and instead try to flirt with Mia Yim, both of them offering her a rose, and Mia takes them! The cousins both offer her a kiss...but she laughs and throws the roses down and stomps on them, just as Anderson and Gallows blindside the cousins! From here, the match only goes a few minutes before Garza hits a drop toe hold into the middle turnbuckle on Gallows, then tags in Humberto. Humberto waits for Gallows to get up, then springboards into the ring...but gets caught by the throat and chokeslammed! Gallows tags in Anderson, boots Garza off the apron, and The Good Brothers hit the Magic Killer for the pin!

Winners via Pinfall: The Good Brothers!

scxx7hp.gif

After a commercial break, we go backstage to Johnny Gargano sitting with Candice LeRae and Dexter Lumis. He thanks Dexter for the assist earlier but says at Backlash, he has to face Austin Theory alone. He mentions Theory making him jump through hoops to get to him, and says he taught Theory everything he knows. When he took him under his wing in NXT, he was just a cocky rookie who didn't know anything. Now he has a giant head because he's had some success on Raw. At Backlash, he humbles Austin and takes the US Title. Candice wishes him luck and mentions the fact she was outnumbered tonight vs Bayley and says she might have to find some friends of her own to handle Damage CTRL. We now cut to the ring for the champs vs challengers tag match.

Match #5:
Tag Team Match
Zelina Vega and Bianca Belair vs Rhea Ripley and Asuka

A good back and forth match with both teams having a good showing. Zelina shows some fire against Rhea early on, sending her reeling to the floor before diving through the ropes and hitting her with a hurricanrana into the barricade! Zelina pounds on Rhea on the floor, but Asuka comes over and blindsides her with a running kick to the face! Asuka taunts her but Bianca comes flying off the top with a diving crossbody on Asuka! Later on, Bianca and Rhea are legal and Bianca comes off the ropes looking for something, but Rhea cuts her off with a big clothesline! Rhea picks her up now, and throws her right into the ribs of Vega knocking her off the apron! Rhea now rolls up Belair, but she kicks out at 2.

Rhea tags in Asuka now and she hits 2 german suplexes on Bianca, followed by a third into a pin, but Bianca kicks out at 2. The finish comes a few minutes later when Zelina and Asuka are legal and Zelina hits a top rope hurricanrana on Asuka! Asuka goes down but rolls into the ropes and slowly stumbles to her feet, and Zelina hits her with a spin kick to the ribs then jumps for Code Red, but Asuka sidesteps and dazes Vega with a spinning backfist! Asuka now grabs Vega and takes her down into the Asuka Lock! Bianca tries to come in for a save, but as she does she gets speared by Ripley! With no help on the way and not near the ropes, Vega is forced to tap!

Winners via submission: Asuka and Rhea Ripley

scxx7hp.gif

After the break, we go backstage to the locker room area where Apollo Crews is chatting with some roster members, when Mustafa Ali comes up and tells him he got lucky last week. Apollo says it wasn’t luck, just skill. Mustafa says he knows he’s better than Apollo, and he’ll prove it. Next week he wants a rematch before they might end up going to different shows. Apollo agrees and says he’ll talk to Pearce about it. We now cut to the GM in his office.

In the office of Adam Pearce. Adam says he had a meeting with Triple H earlier and after the draft not only will there be a world champion on each brand, but the tag team titles will officially be unified and the winners of the title match at Backlash will remain on the brand they’re drafted to as the WWE Tag Team Champions. The other show will be given the vacant World Tag Team Championships for their tag team division to fight for. We now go to the ring for the main event.

Match #6:
Special Guest Referee Match
Seth Rollins vs Karrion Kross w/ Scarlett

As one would expect, Cody Rhodes calls things right down the middle for his Backlash challengers and lets them fight it out. Early on Kross dominates Seth after a Scarlett distraction and he wears him down with strikes and throws him across the ring a couple times with suplexes. Seth gets up in the corner and Kross charges in, but Seth sidesteps and Kross hits the turnbuckles before Seth dropkicks him in the back, then rolls him up for an early pin attempt that only gets a 1. Kross gets back up but Seth instantly drops him with a superkick right into another pin, but this one only gets 2.

Later on, Seth has just hit three straight suicide dives on Kross, wiping him out on the floor and he's fired up! Seth now drags the big man up and tosses him back into the ring, then climbs up on the apron, but he misses Scarlett coming over and as he leaps for the top rope, Scarlett grabs his foot and drags him down, bouncing his face off the side of the ring! The fans boo as Scarlett tries to act innocent, but Cody has had enough of her distractions and ejects her from ringside! Scarlett argues, but Cody tells her again to leave. Kross gets up and sees this and he's furious, and yells at Cody, even shoving him but Cody tells him to focus on the match not him. Kross threatens to drop Cody, but Seth is up and springboards into the ring and drops Kross with a knee! Seth crawls over and covers...but Kross kicks out at 2!

The finish comes shortly after when Seth goes for the Stomp on Karrion, but he moves out of the way and as Seth turns around, he snaps off an exploder suplex! Kross now waits for Seth to get up...and hits a running forearm smash to the back of the head! Seth drops and Kross covers...but he only gets 2! Kross yells at Cody, telling him to count faster and shoves him...but Cody shoves him back! Kross now gets in the champ's face, and tells him he's going to destroy him..but Seth gets up and spins him around, and superkicks him! Seth now bounces off the ropes...Curb Stomp! He pins and Cody counts the pin!

Winner via Pinfall: Seth Rollins!

After the match, Seth gets his arm raised in victory and he wastes no time to taunt Cody, and tell him he's going to do that to him at Backlash. Cody says he's looking forward to seeing Seth try and exits the ring, and Raw ends with a stare down between them.

I thought the latest episode of Raw here was relatively solid. Everything just progressed logically, without any real concerns, but also without anything jaw dropping amazing either. Just solid point a to point b booking.

My one issue probably came with the big excitement point of the night which was that brawl between Brock and Lashley. I'm pumped for the fight pit match, but I'm not big on the way this brawl went about. The Spinebuster from Lashley on the car should have ended things. One of my issues with modern day wrestling is the lack of selling. Feel that bump on the hood should have been enough, instead of Brock coming back and getting the upper hand. Doesn't take away any of my excitement for their encounter at Backlash, but still an execution thing that I wasn't huge on.

As I mentioned, everything else was completely fine, and Backlash is looking like a really nice card.

Smackdown April 28th 2023 Live From Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio

As Smackdown comes on the air, we see The Usos arriving at the arena, with the returning Solo Sikoa in tow. The three men walk into the building and Ashante The Adonis walks up to them and daps them up, telling them he respects them and hopes The Usos win their tag titles back next week. Jimmy and Jey thank him...then turn to Solo and nod to him...and Solo jumps Ashante! Jimmy and Jey join in now as they stomp the hell out of Adonis before pulling him up with The Usos restraining him so Solo can drop him with a Spike! Jimmy tells Ashante to stay out of their way next time, and the three samoans walk away as refs come running to check on Adonis.

Elsewhere in the arena, The Street Profits come up to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn backstage and wish them luck in the main event tonight vs The Bloodline, they tell them they hope they win and are 100% for this Sunday so there's no excuse when they take those titles. Kevin says he doesn't make excuses and says he had that match won last week if not for The Usos. He starts getting fired up but Sami tells him to save it for the match tonight and the champs walk off. We now cut to the ring for the first match.

Match #1:
Singles Match
Raquel Rodriguez w/ Liv Morgan vs Shayna Baszler

A solid match with Raquel trying to overpower Shayna while Shayna strikes at her and focuses on the neck of her opponent. At one point Raquel starts rolling and knocks Shayna out of the ring with a running clothesline, but when Raquel takes a moment to fire up the fans while Liv taunts Shayna, Shayna gets up and throws Liv into the barricade! Raquel sees this and hops out of the ring to go after her, but Shayna leads her in a chase around ringside before quickly spinning around and dropping the bigger woman with a kick to the chest!

Later on, Shayna has snapped off a couple gutwrench suplexes on Raquel and looks to close in on the win as she stalks Rodriguez...but Morgan is on the apron and takes a swipe at Shayna for attacking her multiple times throughout the match! Shayna gets angry and grabs the arm of Morgan, flipping her into the ring and stomping on her arm! Liv rolls out of the ring holding her arm as Shayna laughs at her...but Raquel is up and angry! Raquel spins Shayna around, scoops her up for the Tejana Bomb…she hits it! Raquel covers and gets the win!

Winner via pinfall: Raquel Rodriguez!

As Smackdown comes back from commercial, we go backstage to the interview area where JD McDonagh stands with Kayla Braxton. Kayla asks him about his success so far on Smackdown, and JD says it's just begun, he plans to run through anybody who stands in his way and people are going to get hurt. Riddick Moss now walks up and calls JD creepy and says someone needs to put him in his place. This makes JD snap and he decks Moss! He pounds on Moss before grabbing a chair and wrapping it around his knee, then jumping on it! Moss yells in pain as refs come running...but JD slips away from them and jumps on the chair again! Security now forces JD away as Moss gets checked on and we cut away to the locker room of the WWE Universal Champion.

In Cody's locker room, we see him dressed sharply in a suit and talking to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, when Scarlett walks into the room holding an hourglass. Kevin and Sami leave and Scarlett promises she's here alone, she just wanted to give Cody a gift...and hands him the hourglass. Cody asks what this is for, and Scarlett says it's to tell him time is almost up on his title reign and to enjoy his last show as champion, because at Backlash, Karrion Kross is going to knock him out and take his title. She laughs and leaves now as Cody sighs and puts the hourglass down, and Seth Rollins walks in. Seth says they need to neutralize the Kross threat on Sunday and fight it out themselves afterwards. Cody says Seth might be right, but he also doesn't trust Seth. Seth warns him he'll do whatever it takes to win the title, but he still is willing to work with Cody to take out Kross. But if he doesn't want to then may the best man win, and walks out as we go to the ring for the next match.

Strowman says he's had enough after the last couple weeks and he wants a match with Gunther next week. Gunther laughs and asks if he's supposed to be afraid of him? The champ reminds Braun that next week is the draft, and that means they could end up on different shows. That means he has no reason to face Braun. Braun has had enough of the games from the champ now and decks him with a right hand! Gunther drops but Kaiser and Vinci now jump Strowman! The monster is fighting back, and throws Kaiser across the hall! Vinci now jumps on his back and Gunther gets up, and kicks the monster right in the groin! WWE Backlash Live From Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico
As Backlash comes on the air, a video package plays with the theme song "Fuego Latino" to hype up all the matches that will happen tonight. It showcases the street fight with Judgement Day vs LWO, the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match, and the 2 Women's Title Matches the most. We now cut into the arena with the excited fans cheering loudly and the commentators welcoming us to the show. The ring is already surrounded by the Fight Pit cage as we prepare for the opening match.

A video package plays for the match, showing the past two matches Lashley and Lesnar have had along with Lesnar costing Lashley his #1 contenders match and their brawls before we get the entrances for the match and both men stand across from each other in the cage, ready to tear each other apart.

4wFNiv4.jpeg

Match #1:
Fight Pit Match
Bobby Lashley vs Brock Lesnar

The match starts fast with Brock charging Bobby at the bell and scooping him up, slamming him into the corner! Brock hits a few shoulder blocks in the corner then pulls his rival out of the corner...and throws him into the cage wall with a belly to belly suplex! Brock taunts Lashley as he rolls around in pain and dares him to get up...and when he does, Brock takes him down with a big clothesline! Lesnar now tries to mount Lashley, but Lashley reverses and gets on top of Lesnar, and slams his head into the mat twice!

The two men battle back and forth for the next few minutes with neither man gaining true control of the match, but after being suplexed into the cage a second time, Lashley loses control and Lesnar begins working over his back. Lesnar drags Lashley to his feet after pounding on his back for awhile, and lifts him up...dropping him with a back suplex! Lesnar now tries to lock in a boston crab, but Lashley kicks him away and pulls himself to his feet...only to get drilled with a running jumping knee to the back!

A few minutes later, Lashley has fought back into things and has just slammed Lesnar face first into the cage over and over until he drew blood. He now runs across the ring and shoots back at Lesnar...and cuts him in half with a Spear! Lesnar is down and Lashley roars as he looks to finish this, stalking his rival for The Hurt Lock! Lesnar stumbles up and Lashley locks in the hold! Lashley thrashes Lesnar around, and the ref checks but Lesnar refuses to submit. Lashley tries to bring him to his knees...but Lesnar fights it off and runs backwards, slamming Lashley into the turnbuckles to break the hold! Lashley slumps against the turnbuckles and Lesnar turns around, slamming his shoulder into his ribs a couple times, then scooping Lashley up, and launching him face first into the cage!

The finish comes a few minutes later with Lesnar having Lashley in the Kimura in the middle of the ring! Lashley refuses to tap but Lesnar cranks the arm back, nearly as far as it can go...but Lashley still won't tap! Lesnar tries to break the arm now...but Lashley manages to use his other arm to grab Brock by the head and slam his head into the mat! Lashley does it two more times and breaks the hold finally! Both men slowly stumble to their feet, across the ring from each other. Lashley now charges Brock looking to Spear him…but Brock scoops him up onto his shoulders! Brock laughs as he walks into the middle of the ring to ensure Lashley doesn’t grab the cage, and goes for the F5….but Bobby lands on his feet! Brock is shocked and goes for a punch, but Bobby ducks and runs to the ropes, bouncing off and Spearing Brock! Bobby sees his opportunity now and stalks Brock, waiting for him to rise…and Spearing him again!

Brock is hurting now, laying on the mat holding his ribs and Bobby motions for the fans to get loud, which they do. He grabs Brock and pulls him to his feet and locks him into The Hurt Lock! Bobby uses all his strength to thrash Brock around, but Brock won’t tap! Bobby brings Brock to his knees and leans over him, putting all his weight on Brock and Brock looks to be fading! Bobby keeps the pressure on and the ref checks on Brock…he’s passed out!

Winner via submission: Bobby Lashley!

The fans cheer loudly for that hot opening match as Lashley wins the war and has his arm raised in victory. He looks down at Lesnar, then leaves the ring and slowly heads up the ramp, feeling the pain from the war he just had as he slaps hands with a few fans lining the ramp. We now cut into a video package for our next match.

The package hypes up the feud and history between Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory going back to their days in The Way with clips of them teaming together. It now fast forwards to clips of them having issues ever since Johnny returned last year and Theory telling Johnny he had to win 3 matches to earn the shot tonight, and Gargano winning them albeit with help from Dexter Lumis vs Omos. We now go to the ring and both champion and challenger make their way down to the ring.

Match #2:
United States Championship Match
Johnny Gargano vs Austin Theory (c)

A solid battle of former mentor and mentee turned bitter rivals here. Theory tries to frustrate Gargano early by running, but Gargano gets sick of the games and gives chase, but he falls for the bait Theory set as the champ spins around and decks his challenger with a big clothesline! Theory controls the match for a while, including throwing Johnny out of the ring and slingshotting him into the crowd! Theory taunts and slides back into the ring, telling him to count Johnny out and he jumps up onto the top rope and lays down!

Gargano is up at the count of 7 and climbs back over the barricade, but Theory tries to hit a baseball slide dropkick to keep him out, but Johnny sidesteps and pulls Theory out of the ring and drops him with a superkick! Johnny now throws Austin into the ring and gets up on the apron, waiting for him to get up...slingshot spear! Johnny covers...but Theory kicks out at 2! The match is more back and forth for the next few minutes with both guys getting some good offense in including Theory getting a 2 count off a moonsault and Gargano taking down Theory into the Gargano Escape, but Theory was too close to the ropes and managed to grab them.

Later on, the finish comes as Theory is thrown into the corner and hit with a corner clothesline! Johnny now scoops him up onto his shoulders for the lawn dart...but Theory rakes the eyes without the ref seeing! Johnny drops and Theory laughs, saying he's always been smarter than Johnny, but now he's going to prove he's done with him, and kicks him in the side of the head! The champ now drags his former mentor to his feet, then says it's time for him to show Johnny "The Way", and scoops him up onto his shoulders! Theory goes for A-Town Down..but Johnny counters out into a tornado DDT! Theory goes down and the challenger rolls away to the apron, and drags himself up. He waits for his former protege to rise...then drops him with One Final Beat! Gargano covers....and he gets the pin!

Winner via pinfall and NEW United States Champion: Johnny Gargano!

The fans cheer loudly as Johnny sits up against the ropes and gets handed his newly won championship, his first championship on the main roster. He stands up and raises the title above his head as we cut backstage.

Backstage, we see Becky Lynch walk up to Maxxine Dupri and tell her she needs to talk to her. Maxxine asks her what's up, and Becky says she knows Maxxine was the last one to see Trish and Lita before they were attacked, and if Damage CTRL are telling the truth and it wasn't them who attacked them, she had to ask herself, was it Maxxine? Was she trying to make a name for herself by taking out a couple hall of famers? Maxxine reacts with shock and says she'd never do that, she swears! Becky glares at her and asks why she should believe her? Maxxine says she was with Otis both weeks, and she was going to offer to help Becky find who did it. Becky thinks about it, and says she'll check with Otis but she believes her. But she's going to investigate alone, she doesn't wanna put anybody else at risk of attack. She just wants Maxxine to watch out for herself and make sure she doesn’t get attacked next. Maxxine agrees and they go their own ways, as we cut to the interview area.

In the interview area, we see The Street Profits. The Profits talk about being attacked by The Bloodline on Smackdown, but promise they're good to go tonight and it's time for them to take back those tag titles. And after that, they'll get revenge on The Usos on Friday by beating them finally. Kevin and Sami now walk up, and Sami says he's glad they're cleared to compete and looking forward to facing them. Dawkins tells him to get ready to hand those titles over, because it's time for The Profits to rise again. The music of The Profits now hits and they walk off as our next match is about ready to begin.

Match #3:
Unified WWE Tag Team Championship Match
The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) vs Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn (c)

A hot match with 2 great teams going all out to try and leave with the tag team championships and set themselves up to be early draft picks. The Profits experience as a team gives them the early advantage as they frustrate Owens causing him to roll out of the ring to regroup and Sami hops off the apron to cool him down. But this leaves them open for an attack as Dawkins and Ford both hit stereo dives over the top rope to take them out! Dawkins brings Owens back into the ring and goes over to make a tag to Ford, and they take him down with a double dropkick! Ford now rolls into Dawkins, who lifts him up and drops him onto Owens for a splash! Ford covers...but Owens kicks out at 2!

Both men get to their feet and Ford pops off a couple punches on the champ, then goes for a big haymaker, but Kevin ducks and rolls him up but only gets 1, so he drops Ford with a superkick while he's on his knees! Owens now goes over and makes the tag to Zayn. A few minutes later, Zayn is on a roll after hitting a couple suplexes on Ford, then shoots him off the ropes, ducking a clothesline, and Dawkins tags himself in as his partner bounces off the ropes near him. Ford comes back at Zayn, and Zayn scoops him up...Blue Thunder Bomb! Dawkins now comes in and drags Zayn up as it looks like he might attempt a pin, and hits him with a discus clothesline! Dawkins now covers...but Zayn kicks out at 1.

Owens now runs across the ring and knocks Dawkins off the apron! Ford comes back at Owens going for a clothesline, but Owens backdrops him over the top rope! Owens waits for the challengers to start stirring, then climbs to the top turnbuckle, and takes them out with a cannonball! Everyone is down!

The finish comes shortly after as Zayn has Ford alone in the ring and goes for the Helluva Kick in the corner...but Ford ducks! Ford now hits a jumping neckbreaker on Zayn! Tez now makes the tag to Dawkins, then goes to the top rope as Dawkins drags Zayn up and slowly lifts him up onto his shoulders in doomsday position! Ford gets to the top rope...but Owens enters the ring and pulls his partner off Dawkins's shoulders to save him! KO now superkicks Dawkins, making him fall backwards into the corner, crotching Ford on the top as he falls into the turnbuckles and Ford falls out of the ring! Owens now pulls Sami up and tells him to finish it...and he nails the Helluva Kick! Zayn throws Dawkins out to Owens...who nails the Pop Up Powerbomb! Zayn now covers...and the champs retain!

Winners via pinfall and STILL Unified WWE Tag Team Champions: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn!

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn celebrate their victory as they raise their titles after a war of a match. The Profits get to their feet and offer them handshakes, which are accepted. Suddenly we see The Usos walk out onto the stage and stare down their opponents for Friday, but no violence occurs. We now cut into a video package for our next match of the evening.

We see the video package for Bianca Belair vs Asuka, Asuka won at Wrestlemania by using the mist to blind Bianca which set her up for victory, and Bianca was furious. We see the clip of Adam Pearce making the rematch official for tonight and warning Asuka if she uses the mist, she'll be DQd and lose the title.

Bianca now rolls out of the ring and slams Asuka's face into the announce table! Asuka stumbles away but Belair follows and grabs a hold of her hair, but Asuka hits a few elbows in the ribs, then shoves Bianca into the ring post to get a breather. Bianca starts coming back at Asuka after a few moments...but Asuka drops her with a spinning back fist!

A couple minutes later back in the ring, Asuka has kept control and is wearing down Belair while working over her arm. Asuka grabs the arm of Belair and snaps it off the top rope, then takes down the challenger into a cross armbreaker! Asuka applies pressure on the hold, trying to get an early submission victory, but the challenger rolls over fairly fast...only for Asuka to keep control of the arm and pull it backwards while she falls backwards! Bianca rolls away holding her arm in pain as Asuka rolls to the opposite corner and pulls herself up. Asuka is the first one up and sees Belair getting up in the corner...and charges across the ring for a running hip attack!

Bianca now drags the champ up, lifting her up and dropping her with a glam slam right into a pin...but again Asuka kicks out at 2!

Shortly after this, Bianca is looking to finish things as she scoops up Asuka for the KOD...but Asuka flips out of it and takes down Bianca into a triangle choke! Bianca is struggling for air as Asuka tries again to make her rival tap out...but Bianca powers up, lifting Asuka in the process and slamming her back into the mat! Bianca stumbles away and Asuka follows, going for her roundhouse kick to the head, but Bianca ducks and again goes for the KOD, but her arm is too hurt, she can't lift her! Asuka takes advantage and grabs the Asuka Lock! Asuka might have this as Belair is trapped in the middle of the ring, but she's trying to power out! Bianca has made it to one leg...but Asuka jumps on her back and takes her back down! Asuka cranks on the hold...and Bianca passes out!

Winner via Submission and STILL Raw Women's Champion: Asuka!

Asuka celebrates with her title, as the ref checks on Bianca. Asuka taunts her then quickly leaves, dancing up the ramp as we cut to the back.

Backstage, we see Butch walking down a hallway when Sheamus comes up to him and stops him. Sheamus says he's glad they put the Ridge problem behind them and he hopes they stay together in the draft so the two of them can chase the tag titles together. Butch shakes his head no and says he didn't need Sheamus to handle Ridge for him, he can handle his own business. And as far as this? He's done with The Brawling Brutes! Sheamus looks shocked and asks Butch why but Butch cuts him off and says another thing, his name isn't Butch, he's Pete Dunne, the Bruiserweight! And if Sheamus is smart, he'll stay out of his way if they end up on the same show. Dunne now walks off as Sheamus looks confused. We now cut to the ring for the big homecoming match for Zelina Vega as she challenges rival Rhea Ripley.

Zelina Vega has tears in her eyes after her entrance in her hometown, dressed in gear colored like the flag of Puerto Rico with her hair dyed blue and white. She hugs her mother at ringside before the match as well, which leads to Rhea taunting her mother telling her that she's going to squash her daughter like a bug tonight because she's a loser, just like her mother. This fires up Vega who starts the match hot by sliding into the ring and jumping onto Ripley, taking her down and slamming her head into the mat until the ref pulls her off the champ!

A few minutes later, Kross is down on the floor as Seth hits a buckle bomb on Cody! Cody goes down and Seth bounces off the ropes...and hits the Curb Stomp! Seth might finally get one over on Cody as he drags him to the middle of the ring and covers him....but at the last possible second, Kross pulls Rollins out of the ring, picks him up and powerbombs him on the floor! Kross laughs and Scarlett comes over and hands Kross something as Rhodes stumbles up. Scarlett tells Kross to finish this and he nods as he slides into the ring, hitting a running big boot! Cody slowly stumbles to his feet...but as Kross winds up, Seth is on the apron and grabs his fist!

Kross spins around and manages to get out of Seth's grip, and swings at him with the brass knuckles, but Rollins ducks! Seth now sees Cody is up and coming so he shoves Kross backwards and Cody springboards off the ropes...Cody Cutter on Kross! Kross goes down and Seth sees an opportunity and sneaks into the ring, rolling up Cody...but Cody kicks out at 2 and a half from the surprise pin! The finish comes a couple minutes later as Seth and Cody are going at it, Cody tries Cross Rhodes on Seth, but Seth counters out of it and hits a pedigree on Cody! Seth covers..but Cody kicks out at 2! Seth can't believe it and drags Cody up and brings him to the corner, but Cody reverses and puts Seth on the top turnbuckle. Rhodes now climbs up looking for a superplex, but Seth blocks and shoves Cody off! Seth stands up...but Karrion is back suddenly and on the apron! He moves quickly, knocking out Seth with a brass knuckles punch! He laughs as he shoves Seth off the top and to the floor, and now steps into the ring as the champ slowly rises to his feet and Scarlett holds up the hour glass, saying doomsday is here! Match #7:
Six Man Tag Street Fight
The Judgement Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest and Dominik Mysterio) vs The LWO (Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar and Bad Bunny)

As soon as the bell rings, both teams instantly break down into a wild brawl! Balor and Escobar square off in the ring while Priest and Dominik brawl with Rey and Bunny on the floor. Dominik grabs a trash can and cracks his father over the head with it which leaves Bunny alone in a 2 on 1 for a bit until Rey gets up and joins back in on the fight. In the ring, Balor throws Escobar into the corner into a wedged steel chair and taunts him as he leaves the ring and grabs a second chair, sliding into the ring with it and cracking Escobar across the back with it! The Judgement Day has complete control of the fight early on!

For the next few minutes, Judgement Day take their time to pick apart all 3 of their opponents. Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar have been kept out of the ring leaving Bad Bunny alone with the 3 jackals. Dom has grabbed a hockey stick and is choking Bad Bunny with it while Balor sets up a table. Rey gets right back up but Priest is there and grabs him by the throat! Priest now lifts Rey up for a Chokeslam...but Bad Bunny drills Priest in the ribs with a chair!

Priest releases Rey and Bunny throws the chair at Priest, drilling him in the head and knocking the big man down! Rey now directs traffic as Balor gets up, and he hits him with a running dropkick! Rey now kicks Balor out of the ring as Escobar slides into the ring with 2 kendo sticks, tossing one to Rey as Bad Bunny picks up the chair and Dom slowly gets to his feet, realizing he's in danger! Dom begs for mercy to his father, but just as it looks like he's going to get a beating, Rhea Ripley's music hits! Rhea storms down to the ring...but Zelina Vega comes running down and jumps on her back to a huge pop! Zelina wrestles Rhea to the ground and they start brawling, with Rhea getting up and throwing Zelina into the crowd! The two women now brawl through the crowd and to the back, but Dom uses the distraction to his advantage and low blows his father! The fans boo loudly but Dom still has Escobar and Bunny to deal with and they jump him with their weapons!

Dom takes a beating and Santos drags Dom up, and throws him onto the table as Bad Bunny goes up top...and splashes Dom through the table! Bad Bunny covers...but Priest slides in and shoves Santos onto Bunny to break up the pin! Balor meanwhile hits a shotgun dropkick on Rey into the steel steps on the floor! Priest now picks up Escobar and scoops him up, tossing him over the top rope and to the floor! Bunny now pops Priest in the face but Priest easily wins the slug fest! Priest throws Bad Bunny into the ropes, and goes for a spin kick, but Bad Bunny ducks it and kicks Priest in the ribs, then goes for the Bunny Destroyer...but Priest blocks it and Balor now slides in and rolls up Bunny....but Bunny kicks out at 2!

Priest falls backwards and Rey goes up top...but Finn comes running and hits a kick to knock him off the top rope! Rey falls into the ring but Bad Bunny is up...and walks right into a sling blade! Finn now helps Priest up, then throws Rey Mysterio out onto the apron and kicks him off!

Bunny slowly pulls himself up with the ropes as Dom rolls back into the ring and Bunny realizes he's all alone with Judgement Day...but backup arrives as Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro are back and sprinting down the ramp with chairs! Del Toro and Wilde slide into the ring and throw the chairs at Finn and Priest, knocking them down and causing them to roll out of the ring! They now nod to each other, then hit stereo dives onto Finn and Damian! Rey is now alone with Dom, who ducks his father's punch and rolls him up with his feet on the ropes for a close two.

The finish comes shortly after when Bad Bunny and Santos Escobar are back in ring and Rey hits the 619 on Dom! Dom turns around right into a Phantom Driver! Santos now pins while Bunny and Rey dive onto Finn and Damian...and the LWO win!

Damn, you weren't messing around with opting for Lashley/Lesnar has the opener. Enjoyed the hype to this fight pit match and thought it delivered. Kudos to you for giving Lashley the win here to. Potentially easier option is to give Brock the win, but Lashley earns so much more from beating Lesnar in this type of match. Smart booking, imo.

Glad to see even on PPV, you're continuing the thread of Becky trying to find out who attacked Trish and Lita. Whilst segment with Maxine wasn't supposed to be groundbreaking, it did exactly what it needed to.

Pete Dunne getting rid of that awful name gets another thumbs up from me as well.

I don't have an issue with the booking of the last two matches in terms of winners, but I do have an issue with match placement. The triple threat which is for all the gold, and unifying the World Titles is a MAJOR deal, and should have went on last. Understand the Bad Bunny appeal in Puerto Rico, but he would have gotten a crazy pop at anytime. Choosing to put this last over a HUGE title unification match kind of devalues the titles for me, so I didn't like that choice.

Backlash as a whole was pretty solid as a whole though. Nice work.

Appreciate the feedback dude! I was torn on which match should main event but went with what I felt WWE themselves would have main event. I also figured that was a big feud ending match. But I completely get your thinking.
