EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
The first TakeOver event of 2019 was revealed to be the NXT TakeOver: Phoenix event. It would make up one half of the two-night extravaganza presented by World Wrestling Entertainment. It will emanate from the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix Arizona.

NXT CHAMPIONSHIP
TOMMASO CIAMPA(C) VS JOHNNY GARGANO
On the first episode of NXT of the new year, Johnny Gargano went one on one with a man he knew all too well. In the form of the current NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa. In a non-title Championship Eliminator encounter, which meant if Johnny Wrestling lost
. He would not be able to contend for the title while Ciampa was in possession of it. Gargano would mange to defeat Ciampa and as result earned a future title opportunity. It was made official as the main event of NXT TakeOver: Phoenix.

The “Pirate Princess” Kairi Sane took part in a fatal four-way match on the 9th of January 2019 episode of NXT. This four-way match wasn’t just a regular encounter. No this was to crown the next woman in line for a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.
Sane would manage to keep up with and defeat the three other women involved in it. Those being Bianca Belair, Deonna Purrazzo and Io Shirai, by pinning Purrazzo with the InSane Elbow.

Ricochet© aka the “One & Only” also known as the current reigning and defending NXT International Champion. Had been on a role of successful defences ever since winning the title. Back at the NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV event in late 2018
. His newest challenger to his reign came in the form of the “Dutch Destroyer” Aleister Black. Who was able to take the champion to a time limit draw in a non-title match on an episode of NXT.
This led to Ricochet to ask NXT GM William Regal to give Black a title shot. Which Regal made official for the TakeOver: Phoenix event.

Two prominent black and gold aka NXT male superstars had been feuding since late November 2018. Those being the self-proclaimed “Top One Percent” EC3 and the fan favourite “Knockout Artist” Chris Ohno.
Having had enough of their repeated confrontations outside of the squared circle. NXT GM William Regal set to work to rectify the situation, by announcing a No Dq match for the TakeOver Phoenix event.

That being Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly respectively. NXT GM William Regal rewarded the Raiders with a title shot in Phoenix.

EC3 defeated Chris Ohno in a brutal No Disqualification match. He got the win by hitting the One Percenter onto a set up steel chair.
A split screen showed NXT International Champion Ricochet© and Aleister Black. Preparing for their singles match.
War Raiders beat the Undisputed Era with Adam Cole and Roderick Strong©. To become the NXT Tag Team Champions. Rowe pinned Bobby Fish after hitting the Death Rowe.
It was announced that NXT will return to ppv with the Worlds Collide event. Which will feature talent from MNR, NXT, NXT UK and FNS.
Aleister Black defeated Ricochet© to become the new NXT International Champion.
The Undisputed Era attacked the War Raiders backstage.
Shayna Baszler© retained the NXT Women’s Championship against Kairi Sane. By rendering her unconscious with the Kirifuda Clutch.

Johnny Gargano beat Tommaso Ciampa© to win the NXT Championship.
