Event Announcement
The 2018 WWE Royal Rumble ppv the 31st annual edition of the event. Was announced to take place on the 28th of January 2018. And it would emanate from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA.

First Ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match
For the first thirty years of the Royal Rumble pay per view there has been one and only one of titular match type. This would all change in 2018 as for the first time since its inception there would be a second rumble. A women’s variation was announced for the 2018 edition of the ppv.

It would have the same number of entrants as it’s male predecessor and the winner of the match. Would earn themselves a shot at either the RAW Women’s Championship or its blue brand counterpart at WrestleMania 34.​

2018 Men’s Royal Rumble Match
The second match announced for the Rumble ppv was rather fittingly that of the annual men’s Royal Rumble match. The titular thirty man over the top rope battle royal.

Would see the last man standing inside the ring at its conclusion. Would earn themselves a shot at either the WWE Universal or WWE World Championship at WrestleMania 34.

A Triple Threat to Decide the Fate of the Universe
On an episode of Monday Night RAW a men’s division singles match. This encounter wasn’t just any kind of regular singles match. No sir this match which saw Finn Balor square off with the “Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe.

The winner of this match would earn the right to challenge for the WWE Universal Championship at the Rumble. However, the match came to a shocking and sudden conclusion. As the Universal Champion, “Y2J” Chris Jericho© interjected himself into proceedings and attacked both men.

MNR GM Kurt Angle announced a triple threat match for the gold at the ppv.​

Phenomenal Handicap
In back-to-back weeks a pair of Tuesday Night Smackdown male superstars. In the forms of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn would face off with the reigning WWE World Champion. AJ Styles in non-title matches thanks to unseen inference by the other man.

This led to Owens and Zayn pleading their cases for a shot at the WWE World Championship at the Rumble to TNS GM Daniel Bryan. Styles made an appearance and said he would face the two men in a triple threat but really it would be a 2 on 1 handicap match.

RAW Tag Team Championship
On the 25th of December 2017 edition of Monday Night RAW, which was also the last episode of the show for that year. The duo of Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins defeated the then WWE RAW Tag Team Champions the Bar.

Effectively reclaiming the gold from the team of Cesaro and Sheamus, the very same team that took the gold from them. Cesaro and Sheamus would confront Monday Night RAW GM Kurt Angle, and demanded their rematch. Which Angle agreed to but also told them that they don’t demand things, they were getting the rematch at the Rumble.

Smackdown Tag Team Championship
Switching over to the company’s blue brand aka Tuesday Night Smackdown. And the feud that concerned the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship.

Consisted of the champions the brother tag team of Jey and Jimmy Uso the Uso’s. And the tag team of Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin aka the self-proclaimed Golden Standard Americans. TNS GM Daniel Bryan announced a two out of three falls match for the gold to take place at the Rumble.​

KickOff Show Matches
It was announced on WWE.com that three matches would make up the card of the Royal Rumble KickOff Show. First up a one-on-one men’s division match for the WWE United States Championship. Between Dolph Ziggler© and “Glorious” Bobby Roode who earned the title shot, after he defeated Ziggler in a non-title match.​

Next up a six-man Cruiserweight Invitational for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. With the field of competition of the match consisting of the champion Kalisto©. And five challengers in the forms of Akira Tozawa, Cedric Alexander, Mustafa Ali, Noam Dar and TJP.​

Finally, a tag team Number One Contender match between the Good Brothers and the Revival. The winners of this match would be the next tag team in line for a shot at the RAW Tag Team Championship.

• Three matches made up the card of the Kickoff Show of the 2018 Royal Rumble ppv.​
• Up first was a tag team match but not just any tag team match.​
• This encounter between the Good Brothers and the Revival. Was to crown the next team in line for a shot at the WWE RAW Tag Team Championship.​
• It concluded with the duo of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows hitting the Magic Killer on Scott Dawson.​
• Which left the door open for Gallows to get the pin while Anderson nocked Dash Wilder off the apron.​

• Ziggler replied with a Superkick for his own 2 count.​
• Ziggler dragged his opponent up and spun him around and hit the Zig-Zag for the win.​
