Wrestling Observer Radio: WWE has decided to cancel TLC 2021

According to a new report from Dave Meltzer via Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE has decided to nix the TLC 2021 Pay-Per-View in December.

WWE originally intended to close out 2021 with the TLC event on Dec. 19 , reportedly set for Chicago. Instead, WWE will hold the WWE Day 1 event on New Year’s Day at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

“Originally there was going to be a pay-per-view in Chicago at the Allstate Arena in mid-December, and the feeling is now that doing 12 a year, and the December pay-per-view will actually be January 1 in Atlanta. The idea of doing January 1 rather than do mid-late December. And then they’re still gonna do Royal Rumble as the January pay-per-view,” Metlzer said.

“A lot of people were wondering, when they moved the December Chicago date from being a pay-per-view to being a television taping, who’s gonna get the pay-per-view? And the answer is that there is no pay-per-view.”

From what I'm reading in the thread, it sounds like no December ppv due to Day 1 in January.

But really no big deal bc they always go into autopilot around the holidays it seems and the January 1 PPV is essentially the December one to me with the Rumble still in January too. Weird to announce it then cancel so soon after tho

Ehh..I'm not too mad about losing TLC personally. Although the Table and Ladder matches were fun I suppose. It just never really lights my world on fire as a PPV. Last time I remember loving it is when The Shield was facing Team Hell No. That shit was wild.

Day 1 is such a weird ass PPV name though if they are sticking with that.

Never been a huge fan of TLC matches so I'm all for this decision if it's actually legit. Hopefully this leads to them gettin' rid of the HIAC PPV as well and usin' these gimmick matches more appropriately.

That is good for numerous of reasons. Glad they are not having a TLC PPV this year. They have really burned that match up to death. To the point where the match doesn't feel special anymore or the magic it once had.

And yeah, I didn't really comment on the OP itself but I pretty much agree with the group, if I watched wwe I would not be sad, this ppv has sucked for a long ass time. gimmick matches > gimmick ppvs

Chairs matches should have always been musical chairs......heel can hover over the chair and the face tries to keep him moving like the game intended.

Do TLC matches at Survivor Series then. It's an opportunity to make Survivor Series more interesting. I saw someone years ago suggest moving Elimination Chamber to Survivor Series. The very same reason. To refresh that PPV since the main concept of Survivor Series isn't special anymore. I mean, who really cares about brand vs. brand a month after the newly drafted rosters take effect?
