Rock/Cena has been terrible in my opinion. Now, I didn't see all the promos they've had against each other this time around but I don't need to because quite frankly that's only a portion of the build. For this build to work, Cena had to actually have a fall. Without an actually fall, the angle doesn't work, especially when they focus on the whole redemption angle. Incorporating that into promos just make the promos lack any kind of substance because anyone paying attention knows their was no fall. Hell, he won Superstar Of The Year on his worst year ever, that's just inexcusable when you're booking this kind of angle. The saddest thing is, I love the story on paper. I think if WWE actually went through with it I'd be in love with the angle. The promos would work better, it would translate better. And more importantly, as I don't really matter to WWE, I think the fans would be more invested into the angle if WWE wasn't so afraid of booking Cena even just a little weaker than the norm. From what I have seen of these guys promos on each other, I haven't liked it. Like this past Raw, I thought both were pretty boring honestly. Oh, and don't forget how awesome it was to get a two week break from this feud in the middle of The Road To WrestleMania, that's definitely a commendable aspect of the build to the main event of WrestleMania.
Brock vs. Triple H has been . . . adequate? Now, I probably would've outright said it was terrible but I believe that it's been confirmed that Trips COO duty is also on the line in the match. I read that in one of Rain's posts I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong but right now I'll go with adequate. Yeah, I still think the No Holds Barred stipulation was a stupid idea as that's the very match Triple H would've wanted to have which completely defeats the purpose of getting to choose the stip. Why wouldn't he go with a submission match, he made him tap out before, he broke his arm before, and Triple H isn't a submission specialist. That would be a match Triple H wouldn't normally agree to, that's what a logical person would do. Sure, you can say the career thing counts (only if it does extend into the COO, if not then no way in hell does that hold any merit) but still wouldn't you want to make it as bad as it can get? Wouldn't you go the extra mile to ensure victory? And the reason I'm focusing on this is because it really was the most important part of the build (at least strictly relating to the rematch). Before that reveal, it was about signing the match and what Brock & Heyman would have Trips do. After the reveal it was about the consequences if Trips loses. As for other things, kind of where the adequate really forms. I haven't really enjoyed a single promo I've seen from this build. The Shawn Michaels one on Raw was poor in my opinion but on the other hand, adding Shawn into the feud makes perfect sense and adds another layer to the conclusion. I guess it's basically objectively there wasn't too much wrong but subjectively it's been a snooze fest. I'm not sure adequate is the right word, I'd probably put it a lower than adequate but yeah, those are my thoughts.
Punk/Taker is something I've discussed pretty recently so I'm just going to link my posts to them. For everything pre-ending segment on last Raw, click
here and for the ending segment on Raw, click
here. You can gather my thoughts from those two snippets but it's not exactly a big step up for those who are too lazy. And I can't blame you if you are, I'm too lazy to post something new on this.
The Shield build has been pretty good all things considered but underwhelming as hell. I don't know, it just hasn't stuck out at all to me and I love The Shield. Hell, the Fandango/Jericho feud and Ryback/Henry feud stand out more to me than The Shield one. Maybe that's because I'm not really watching, but that's how it is.
In total, this is definitely the worst build to a WrestleMania that I've seen since I started watching. I started watching like a week before WrestleMania 22 and I wasn't watching during 27's and I didn't have a site like this to make me want to keep up with it so I can't comment on it. But for every other one, they blow this stinkfest out of the water. Don't know how I'd rank them, The Shield match would be on top though. Otherwise, at some point, ranking pieces of turds is just ridiculous.
