I was just wondering with fans less interested in out there gimmicks and just gimmicks in general do you think Undertaker would get over with the fans and be the superstar that he is, if he debuted today?

^ But the difference is Undertaker can wrestler and can put on good matches.

Khali can't wrestle at all and makes a match worse.

Ok, but I was using that example for old Undertaker. When he first showed up with Paul Bearer. When Bearer talked for him and such. Much like Khali is now, his manager talks for him, granted its an Arab or whatever gimmick. But I am referring to when the Undertaker first started compared to now, and Khali isn't making it with the wierd gimmick and the manager that talks for him, so I don't believe Undertaker would.

Nah, I don't think he would.

In reality, Undertaker was a wrestlecrap gimmick that just happened to get over somehow. I think the same gimmick would be shit on if it was introduced today.

The reason it got over was because nothing like it had been seen at the time. So if we could get to a point where the Taker gimmick was still fresh, then yes he could. As it is now, no.

I think it was all luck that he got over and a good thing.

mark calloway is a great performer inside the ring,he is very imposing at 6 feet 10 and he gave de niro like performance when playing the undertaker gimmick,so yeah i think he would be successful if the undertaker gimmick started today with mark calloway playing the dead man.

I know people are probably tired of hearing me bitch and think I'm some wrestling snob, but when people make stupid statements with no arguments, I'm going to take you to school.

Nah, I don't think he would.

Yeah. Right. So he just magically got over with the fans? He didn't stuff Warrior in a casket? That wouldn't help him get over at all. Or what about that time he took the World Title off of Hogan after being in the company less than a year? Yeah, pinning the face of the company isn't going to get anyone with a "wrestlecrap" gimmick over.I mean one day Mark Calloway woke up and his gimmick was "somehow" over! Give me a fucking break. What a ridiculous statement. Wrestlecrap gimmicks don't get over, ever, that's why they are Wrestlecrap. I wonder if you even saw his initial run in the company, he squashed an entire Survivor Series team all alone in his debut and then feuded with the top faces (Warrior and Hogan) within his first year in the company. He had a mouthpiece and he was well booked. The whole stuffing laid out faces into body bags after matches was booking brilliance and he was fucking over.
Taker's character is anything but wrestlecrap. When he entered the company, he was a tall, scary fuck that was booked perfectly to his character. Too bad Hogan was a narcacisstic prick and held him down, but that's another story all of itself. He was over then and with the same booking and push today he would be over, "wrestlecrap" gimmick and all. I'd give anything to see him tombstone Cena and stuff his ass in a body bag. If he did that, he would be instantly over. It's booking 101, attack the franchise of the company and you have instant heat. They did it back in 90-91, and incase your not watching WWE at all right now, that is exactly how they are booking Khali, and Shitsky. The only reason these two will fail is because they suck huge ass as wrestlers. And it's so much easier to get a heel over than a face.

Basically what I'm trying to say that it isn't the gimmick that gets over, its the booking and the worker behind the gimmick that get it over. And Taker has that ability, unlike a waste like Khali, whom isn't a worker, he's a giant stiff out to cash a check.

So Taker isn't Khali by any stretch, he's more like Umaga. Umaga has an outrageous gimmick and a mouthpiece, but he can wrestle, like Taker, and that's how both of these workers were able to help get their gimmicks over. Attacking the top faces can't hurt either. Too bad the WWE absolutely killed all of Umaga's heat and ruined a perfectly acceptable #2 main event heel.

If your going to make bold statements, no matter how wrong they are, at least put some backing to them, because otherwise it shows that you don't know your shit, and there is alot of that on this board.
