In this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that from what he is hearing, Ric Flair "seems to be a lock" to sign with AEW whenever he is legally able to.
Flair, 72, requested and received his release from WWE on August 3rd. The sixteen-time world champion was reportedly unsatisfied with his daughter Charlotte's booking and current direction in the company.
Flair himself expressed displeasure with a previous angle he was involved in with Lacey Evans and Charlotte. Speaking to the Ariel Helwani MMA Show in May, Flair noted that he didn't feel comfortable with the storyline that involved him being a romantic interest for Evans. He also noted that Charlotte herself didn't like it either.
He has re-signed a deal with WWE in 2020 and when there was question about that happening, Flair said at the time he wouldn't sign elsewhere if he was renewed. Flair and AEW's Tony Khan have a friendship and Flair's future son-in-law, Andrade El Idolo, started with AEW earlier this year after his WWE release.
Flair was reportedly set to unveil the AEW World title at Double or Nothing in May 2019, but health issues prevented that from happening. Bret Hart ended up taking that spot instead.
