HAMDEN, CT (WFSB) -A paramedic has been arrested in connection with claims he raped a 22-year-old woman while she lay strapped to a stretcher in the back of an ambulance.
Hamden police said Mark Powell, 49, of North Haven sexually assaulted the Hamden woman on Dec. 25 at 3 a.m. while she was being transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital after suffering a fall at a holiday party.
Police said the woman awoke in the ambulance to find Powell raping her. She told police she could not move because she was strapped to a stretcher.
The woman contacted police after being discharged from the hospital, police said.
On Thursday, police charged Powell with first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint. He was released on a $25,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on January 19.
