Nintendo has yet to officially place a set price-point for their upcoming new-gen console, the Wii U. However, that hasn't stopped rumors from spilling out of the anonymous internet orifices that keep gamers and gaming websites guessing and speculating.
The latest anonymous source has spilled some beans to Forget The Box [via Destructoid], who claims that each console will cost Nintendo approximately $180 to manufacture the Wii U. Speaking closely with this anonymous source close to distribution and manufacturing, Forget The Box reports that Mr. Anonymous says...
“Cutting production costs to maximize profits is Nintendo’s main concern with the Wii U. They are cutting costs in the Wii U’s hardware to build back confidence in investors. Nintendo wants investors to view Wii U as a less risky proposition. â€
The total cost of the WiiPad tablet is postulated at the $50 price point. The touch screen on the WiiPad is estimated at $14. The camera is supposedly of a higher quality than that of the 3DS and only costs Nintendo $6.
The total costs of the Wii U will purportedly even out to a breezy $300, which doesn't sound too bad but given the uneven reports about the specs and power capabilities, it's hard to tell if that's a fair price point or not.
Leading up to E3 I'm sure we'll get a few more guesses, rumors and "insider reports" on the Wii U, so be sure to keep that bag of salt with you. You can check out the interesting, and somewhat informative article over at Forget The box.
