He isn't a huge movie star, I guess he was filming a film / TV show and he couldn't just say I'm going as they'd replace him easily.
He isn't a big enough mainstream star to be able to tell a big movie directors "Yo I wanna go visit my old employer for a day that cool?" especially in the middle of shooting what will be a comedy movie that will pull good money.
