I noticed ever since WrestleMania 31 they don't put the Roman numeral of the events in their logos anymore. Everything from 2015 to now just says "WrestleMania" even though we know it's not the original event. In the past with the exception of WrestleMania 2000, X-Seven and X8 all of them had the number of the event to distinguish it from the original and it represents how many times they've done it, for historical purposes. A older viewer would see the number if they hadn't seen the WWE in years and go "Wait this is still going on ?" I missed the other (whatever number you left off at) or somebody who's seen it for the first time is not gonna be aware that it's been going on for 3 decades. Why did they get rid of it ?

I believe it was because Vince thinks that stating the number (specifically in roman numerals) makes the event feel old. I suppose he thinks it is better to market it as young and fresh instead of old and historic. I don't think its a big deal tbh. But I don't see how it is a clever marketing decision. No one is going to not watch it because of its 34 years old. More likely they are going to watch it because of its 34 years old heritage. But who gives a fuck really?

I think they should use the number only every 5 or 10 years. Like last time with mania 30 there was the three X's in the logo.

Like everyone else mentioned the numbering made the show feel old to Vince. Taking the numbering away and just promoting the events as WrestleMania gives the event a timeless feeling, like it'll never stop being a thing, you know?

I doubt it's Vince thinking it makes the show look old, which shouldn't be a problem in the first place. Being able to say that you had this amount of successful Manias (and counting) is the biggest flex imaginable for an event like this. But I think it's more about the graphics and how it looks visually. One day or another you're gonna have a lot of Xs and Is in there and the logo would just look a bit overloaded. Mania 33 would have been XXXIII and Mania 34 would have to look like XXXIV and that's just kinda tough to integrate into a functional logo.
I think it's just more of a long term decision because one day you're gonna have a Mania 68, for example, and the graphics for it would have to include the number LXVIII and that's just kinda unnecessary given that people know what number it is anyways. It's not like they're not promoting it as WrestleMania 34, they're just not including it into their logo anymore

This is according to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, who said on Wrestling Observer Radio today that the events are no longer being branded with numbers "because Vince [McMahon] thinks it makes it sound too old."

Seems like a Vince thing to do.

I mean, Dave has been wrong more times than right.. so let's not take his word for it right away. But I will say that it wouldn't shock me either if we'd see less of the number branding sooner or later. Like I said tho, it's probably for the better anyways, given the logo situation and people knowing which number of Mania it is anyways

Numbers make it sound old...

Even though the WWE has no problem with rolling out
all the has-beens in their wheelchairs at the event itself.

One would think Vince would WANT to use "Roman" numerals...

I think it is because most of the younger audience don't even know their Roman numerals lol
