Why is telling kids the truth a bad thing?

I see and hear of parents lying to their kids about the dumbest things then when they get older and find out the truth, the parents wonder why the kids become stuck up teens that hide everything from them. Kids don't do what you say they do as you do. They learn by example. You lie to them and expect them to tell YOU the truth? LOL!

Random thought I had.
