Pretty simple guys. Doesn't matter if it's Karate, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, etc. Let's hear your stories guys. Who's had combat sport experience, and how did you fare/how are you still faring today???
As for me 10 years of amateur wrestling between Folkstyle (high school/college), Freestyle, and Greco-Roman. Didn't care much for Greco, but it helped me drastically with my throws during my high school seasons. I finished 137-21 in 4 years at my school with 3 place finishes in Michigan. I started high school as a heavyweight, but was convinced to cut to 189lbs. Smart move. I qualified for regionals with a 4th place finish at individual districts my freshman year. I stayed at 189 my sophmore year and placed 7th. My junior and senior years I stepped up a class to 215lbs. My junior year I finished 5th, and senior year 3rd. What's funny is every year that I went to states, I lost to the eventual champion. Had a few scholorship offers, but I never acted on it.
In Freestlye and Greco, these were done pretty much throughout the year if you wanted to, but mostly after the high school seasons were done. Greco was tough because it's all throws, nothing attacked below the waist. I placed in a few tournaments I entered and won a few in both divisions. After high school was done, I coached junior high wrestling for 2 years and was an assisstant at my alma mater for 4 years.
