Which Era Of Rock Is Best?

This is not a discussion poll to be voted on, just your general opinion. I know guys who are crazy for 60's 70's type legends like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and the like. I also know guys who are crazy 80's buffs for guys like Quiet Riot, AC/DC, Motley Crue and Iron Maiden. There is also great bands from the 90's like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Tool & Motorhead. Modern day Rock Bands consist of obviously new age sounds, that most people will actually wholeheartedly disagree on who they think are some of the greats of today, but my examples will consist of, Nickelback, 3 Days Grace, Disturbed, aaand what the hell, Green Day. Once again just my personal opinions here.

But out of all these eras, which one is truly the greatest of all time? Honestly, I am gonna have to go with 60's and 70's here. Beyond the ones I mentioned above, you had Jimmi Hendrix, Judas Preist, The Who, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Queen, Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, The Doors, Grateful Dead, I mean honestly, the list goes on and on and on here of legends from this era. I may not of been around during this time, but I can't hardly imagine a single weekend going on in some major city where some major rock band wasnt playing that people actually cared about. So yeah, my pick definitely goes to 60's and 70's, with of course 80's as a close second. Continuing on from there to 90's and finishing the slow decline to todays times where I quote Bob Seger.

Todays music aint got the same soul, I like that old time rock n roll!

I personally have to go with the 80's being the number one era. There you had AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, Metallica, Guns N' Roses. They are in my opinion some of the greatest bands of all time. The 90's coming in a second because the 90's brought us Linkin Park, Papa Roach, and Rammstein. These are the two greatest era's to me because I honestly prefer the sound, I guess one would say. To me it just sounds better.

70's, 80's and this current day rock is pretty decent. Don't care for the 90's that much.

Good point with the 80's and 90's there, I missed a few of those names. However I did hesitate on Linkin Park because as I understand it, there are many many people who would want to rip my head off for giving them credit because they "souled out" lol

As far as revolutionary and influential bands I'de definately say the late 70's through 80's. Metallica, Megadeth, Guns N Roses, Sabbath....ect..ect.
Although 90% of the music in the 80's did suck horribly.

Metal was god then, and you can't look back on that

The 1980's had some of the greatest bands emerge. I am a huge fan of Motley Crue, AC/DC and Iron Maiden. Each era of music each have their good and bad bands and can be dabated to which was "the best" the majority of my favorite bands came from the 90's and the 80's.

It almost seems like the first decade of the 21st century came and went without another revolutionary band coming about.

I like mostly today's bands really, not to say that the 60's through 80's are bad or anything because Pink Floyd, The Beatles and a few others pretty much owned for their time. But overall it's easier to find less well known bands as I don't watch Mtv or listen to the radio or anything like that.

Also a big reason why there isn't a really "revolutionary" band around is because there is more of a hip hop/pop trend these days. Back in the 70's who was there, Cher? =/ Also in 20 years bands that the 13-20 year olds today just liked will be the legendary bands...I just hope to God the Jonas Brothers aren't that band. >_>

60s/70s without a doubt. The talent and brilliance of the artists of the time is unparalleled and will never be repeated. I'm not going to bother rattling off names as the list would be too long. Without the incredible music of the 60s/70s we wouldn't have half the music we have today.
