RAW October 10th 2005
So...as some (most?) of you know...I'm a big fan of the Women's division...
and while its far from perfect...a very interesting development has recently
taken place...and I guess I'm here to talk about what this development
could mean...not just for the SmackDown brand...but for women's wrestling
as a whole.
So...Mickie James is back full time in the WWE...and for me...its really
exciting.
Its exciting because this rarely happens with women wrestlers...and there
are a couple of important reasons why.
1). Female wrestlers have a much higher "turn over" rate than their male
counterparts. Whether its through injuries or the desire to "settle down"
and start a family by having children...women wrestlers rarely have long
drawn out careers like say the Undertaker or John Cena.
&
2). With the responsibility of raising (a) child/ren...many former female
wrestlers would never have the desire or chance to come back to the ring
even if they were physically able to.
But Mickie James has returned...and in turn it may inspire many other former
female superstars to throw the tights back on and step back into the squared
circle.
Just recently Brie Bella announced her desire to return to the ring after
her child is born...which again will also prove very positive for women's
wrestling.
Mickie James & (eventually) Brie will prove that a woman can be a mother
and a wrestler...and that a WWE superstar doesn't need to chose between
being one or the other.
I also understand that Brooke Tessmacher has also made a similar return in
TNA this month...and while I know very little about her...this again is a very
positive development for women's wrestling as a whole.
The other reason why Mickie returning is so exciting for me is...well...
and I'm being honest here...the women's division has hit somewhat of a
wall...so to speak.
While Alexa Bliss surprised most with her title win at TLC...for the
most part...at least since the brand split...every woman has settled
into their appointed spot.
On RAW...Charlotte remains Champion after an overly long but great feud
with Sasha Banks, who along with Bayley remain fan favorites with Nia Jax,
Alicia Fox & Dana Brooke getting a run when needed. The rest of the roster
has been injured or M.I.A...and personally I can't get invested in the
Charlotte/Bayley feud...simply because I don't buy Bayley as a legitimate
threat to Charlotte.
On SmackDown...A new Championship was created then won by Becky Lynch
but her first stalled title reign was disappointing and then Alexa Bliss
took her through a table and took the title. The two have been feuding
since Backlash and it appears the end is in sight. Nikki Bella had a
somewhat violent feud with aggressive newcomer Carmella before being
thrown into another heated feud with Natalya...but one has to wonder..
how long before Nikki gets her hands on Alexa. Oh...and Carmella is
now running around with "Jimmy No Chin" and the rest of the roster has
been injured or M.I.A.
The injection of an experienced campaigner like Mickie James into the
mix on SmackDown will definitely liven things up...and having her as
a heel and her initial feud with fan favorite Becky Lynch is a smart
move by creative that should see the two put on some amazing matches.
And of course...off in the far distance...I can already see the possibility
of an intense and personal feud between Nikki Bella & Mickie James that
not only involves the SmackDown Women's title...but possibly some long
forgotten history with the man no one can see.
Mickie James is from a different time...this woman wrestled Trish Stratus
and Lita...this woman was good enough to take an obsessed lesbian stalker
angle and make it compelling television...this woman is going to be a future
hall of famer...and if any of you doubt her in-ring abilities...simply watch
the match she had with Auska at NXT TakeOver Toronto.
Yes...2017 is off to an exciting start...and hopefully with Mickie's return...
RAW will finally...finally...FUCKING FINALLY!!! allow the beautiful Emmalina
to make her long awaited "premiere" and then I will do a basic but noticeable
happy dance.
What are your thoughts on the Return of Mickie James?
Let me know what you think and perhaps share your favorite Mickie Memories
and once again...Thanks for taking the time to read this. I'll See Y'all round the traps.
