Can someone mind telling me what the hype is around this guy?

All I know that he's one of the top bantamweights of the world in MMA currently, my friends have been on his dick for the past month now that he's fighting at WEC 42, I haven't seen any of his fights yet and don't plan to, he doesn't seem all that great anyways.

Someone post some videos or something to explain why he's SO good?

I'm not gonna go acting like an expert because I don't know shit but I haven't seen much of this guy but what I have seen he is fucking good.

His record is 37-1 so that speaks for itself and he has a phenomenal ground game but I can't say I've seen that much standup from him to judge but looking at his record, you can't really say he's beaten anyone that good (not that I know who's good and who isn't in Bantamweight, but if it was that good a division, there'd be more big names) and I think he needs to step up a division and fight the likes of Faber and Brown to prove himself.

I've seen a couple of his fights and take it from me, there isn't much to ride home about. Most of his "dick riders" are hispanic, no offense if you are, but he is to them what boxing is to the latino community. Sure, he is a decent fighter, but the Bantamweight division in WEC is not that competitive which makes Torres look real good, that's why he's had that belt as long as he has.

Honestly the guy is one of the best p4p fighters in the world, his last and only loss was in 2003 and he's only 28 years old. the guy is consistently putting up great fights and he loves the sport.

not happening.

and its funny that you made this topic cause i just read this article a few minutes ago.

When discussions on the pound-for-pound best MMA fighter in the world take place, Miguel Torres’ name is mentioned only by the cognoscenti

But the WEC believes its bantamweight champion should be in the mix with names like Fedor Emelianenko and BJ Penn.

Torres has lost just once in his nine-year career and is currently riding a 17-fight winning streak, which includes three defences of his WEC 135lb belt.

Among other impressive statistics on Torres’ record are the following:

MOST CONSECUTIVE WINS: With 17 straight wins, Torres is the most successful fighter currently considered a top pound-for-pound candidate. During that streak, Torres has submitted 10 foes, knocked out five, and won a decision twice.

Only Silva, WEC featherweight champ Mike Brown, and Machida come close to matching such dominance. UFC middleweight champion Silva and Brown both have 10-straight wins, while light heavyweight champion Machida is unbeaten in 15 professional contests.

BEST SUBMISSION PERCENTAGE: Of all major world champions, 28-year-old Torres boasts the highest submission percentage at 60 percent. WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner is second with a 56 percent ratio, while WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown is third with a 55 percent mark. UFC lightweight champ BJ Penn boasts a respectable 38 percent submission percentage.

MOST STOPPAGE VICTORIES: Matched with the sport’s top stars, Torres has nearly double the overall stoppage victories than the next closest champion. With 31 wins by knockout or submission, Torres bests Silva (18), Brown (16), Varner (14), St-Pierre (12), Penn (10), Machida (7), and Lesnar (3).

SECOND IN TITLE DEFENSES: Only 185-pound titlist Silva has more successful championship defenses (5) than Torres (3). A win on Aug. 9 would also put Torres in elite company when it comes to most championship fights won. A victory over Bowles would be Torres’ fifth in a title bout, tying him with Hall-of-Famer Chuck Liddell. Silva and St-Pierre are the only other active champions with more wins in title fights (6).

SECOND-MOST KOs AMONG ACTIVE CHAMPIONS: With nine knockout victories in his career, Torres ranks second behind Silva (14) among current title holders. St-Pierre (8), Penn (5), Machida (5), Varner (5), Brown (4) and Lesnar (2) round out the list.

Torres will be lloking for his fourth successful title defence when he takes on Brian Bowles at WEC 42, which takes place at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday, August 9th.

he is just as good at what he does as Fedor is, the reason you dont hear much about bantam fighters is simply becuase UFC doesnt have the weight class, and why is it fighters have to step up to fight to prove they are better? why doesnt silva step down to fight st pierre? but instead he is moving up to a very tough 205 class. torres record speaks for itself, and btw who has fedor beat in the past 4 years? a washed up silva that got run from the UFC? arvloski? who cant even buy a win nowadays. vernon forrest? everybody beats him. Lindland was the only one decent during that time. fedor just beats who is put in front of him, the same as torres. the only reason people consider fedor the top dog is becuase he has beat guys from the UFC and Pride, companies people had opportunities to watch, plus his record.

the 3 weight classes that get most recognition are welterweight, LH and HW.
Even most of the guys Silva has beat are true LH or Welterweights.
