Change of pace here with a brand new BTB. The fingerpoke thread got me back into the groove of writing shows but ultimately the thread was going to move at a snail’s pace with four hours of TV to write every week. So instead we’re taking it way back to the start of Nitro with a quick one hour of TV a week to write plus a weekend recap highlighting the key bits of Saturday Night, Worldwide etc. I’m starting right after Bash at the Beach as we build to the first Nitro - so stick around and see what WCW has in store…

Clash of the Champions XXXI Preview

The Main Event: Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Sting and Road Warrior Hawk with Jimmy Hart vs The Dungeon of Doom (The Shark, The Zodiac, Kamala and Meng with The Taskmaster)

Hulk Hogan’s feud with The Taskmaster and the Dungeon of Doom has been going since the end of 1994 when Brutus Beefcake turned on his former best friend and joined up with the demonic Taskmaster. Fast forward eight months and now the likes of Kamala and The Shark have joined the dungeon’s ranks. Following Bash at the Beach The Taskmaster added a new member to his faction’s ranks as Meng, previously managed by Col Robert Parker was revealed as the newest member of the group when he attacked Hulk Hogan on an episode of WCW Saturday Night. Meng has been feuding with Sting and Road Warrior Hawk recently which brought the two popular face painted superstars into an alliance with the Hulkster against The Dungeon of Doom. Randy Savage has now finished up his feud with Ric Flair and the four faces then challenged their rivals to this all star eight man tag at WCW’s latest Clash of the Champion event. With the first Nitro and Fall Brawl around the corner, who will sit atop of WCW as it enters the most important period in its history?

Vader vs Arn Anderson (with Ric Flair)

After his loss to Hulk Hogan at Bash at the Beach Ric Flair and Arn Anderson made the fatal mistake of questioning the ability of the man they call Vader. As he turned on the two veterans for the first time in WCW Vader is a favorite amongst the fans. Vader challenged ‘The Nature Boy’ to a match on WCW Saturday Night but Flair shrugged off the challenge and said he’d have to go through ‘The Enforcer’ Arn Anderson first. WCW officials have thus booked this first time ever match for Clash of the Champions. In the weeks leading up to the TV event Anderson and Flair have been using their numbers advantage to get the best of the big man however Vader has fought admirably against the duo and has promised to beat Anderson to a pulp at Clash of the Champions.

WCW Tag Team Championship: Harlem Heat © (with Sister Sherri) vs The Stud Stable (Bunkhouse Buck and Dick Slater with Col Robert Parker)

The match was made after the veteran team of Buck and Slater defeated Marcus Bagwell and Alex Wright on the Bash at the Beach preshow to earn a shot at the champs. The main story here however is Col Robert Parker’s romantic pursuit of Sherri. The Heat have not exactly been thrilled with their manager flirting with the enemy and after she gave Col Parker a kiss on the cheek on an episode of WCW Worldwide Booker and Stevie have been calling her loyalty into question. Sherri has said when it comes to the match she’ll remain strictly professional but can she really be trusted heading into this tag title match?

WCW TV Championship: The Renegade © vs Diamond Dallas Page (with Max Muscle and The Diamond Doll)

The Renegade has been on the ultimate winning streak since he arrived in WCW. A warrior of the ring he now faces his toughest challenge yet - Diamond Dallas Page and his entourage. Page got a win over Dave Sullivan at Bash at the Beach and has been wracking up the wins on WCW Saturday Night and Worldwide to earn himself this championship shot. Page has arrogantly guaranteed he will win the title but The Renegade will be a formidable challenge for DDP.

Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Match: The Nasty Boys vs The Blue Bloods

Both teams came out on the losing end of the triangle match for the titles at Bash at the Beach and are itching for another shot at Harlem Heat, who both teams have beef with. There’s no guarantee of course that Booker T and Stevie Ray will be tag champs by the end of the show but both these teams want to get back in the title picture. The winner of this bout will get their title shot at WCW’s September PPV Fall Brawl.

Alex Wright vs Brian Pillman

Back at the Great American Bash Wright defeated Pillman in an impressive back and forth counter, ultimately winning by reversing a sunset flip. Since that loss Pillman took some time off from WCW to go and wrestle in Japan. Now he’s returned from the far East and Pillman is back ready to compete in WCW. He returned on WCW Saturday Night and challenged Wright to a rematch and said he’d been reflecting a lot on his loss to the German upstart. Pillman promises that we’ll see a new edge to him in this bout while Wright was happy to give Brian another shot at Clash of the Champions.

Plus tune into Clash of the Champions to learn more about the exciting young wrestlers that World Championship Wrestling have signed!

t vs The Dungeon of Doom (The Shark, The Zodiac, Kamala and Meng with The Taskmaster)

I mean, are we really kicking this off with Ed Leslie winning in a main event?

Vader vs Arn Anderson (with Ric Flair)

Could go either way, I'd like to see a strong start for Vader.

WCW Tag Team Championship: Harlem Heat © (with Sister Sherri) vs The Stud Stable (Bunkhouse Buck and Dick Slater with Col Robert Parker)

I've always felt that Buck and Slater were outdated even for 1994-1995. Hopefully we're mostly skipping this rivalry and Harlem Heat can move onto other things.

WCW TV Championship: The Renegade © vs Diamond Dallas Page (with Max Muscle and The Diamond Doll)

I sure am not gonna pick the Renegade.

Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Match: The Nasty Boys vs The Blue Bloods

This is the heel team I'd like to see Harlem Heat feud with next. Although this could go either way too obviously.

Alex Wright vs Brian Pillman

I'm just a bigger fan of Pillman.

WCW Clash of the Champions XXXI - August 6th 1995
Live from the Ocean Beach Centre in Daytona Beach, Florida

We are live on TBS with Clash of the Champions! The show begins with a video package outlining the key encounters taking place this evening including two championship matches, a first time ever one on one meeting between Vader and Arn Anderson and the huge eight man main event which sees a veritable dream team of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Sting and Road Warrior Hawk take on the dastardly Dungeon of Doom. Your announces for this evening are the tried and test Tony Schiavone and Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan who welcome us to a jam packed two hours on TBS!

Brian Pillman makes his return

Backstage ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund is with Brian Pillman, who hasn’t wrestled in WCW for a couple months and has promised a new edge tonight. Gene points out that his last match with Wright Pillman lost so what’s Brian going to be doing differently tonight. Pillman replies: “Well Gene lets just say over the last few months I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching. I’ve really been asking myself just who I am. I’ve been wrestling for WCW since 1989 and I’ve had my ups and I’ve certainly had my downs. Tonight I’m going into this match with a clean slate, I’m taking things back to square one Gene. Against Alex Wright you’re going to see a looser Brian Pillman, a more explosive Brian Pillman and a victorious Brian Pillman.” With that Gene concludes the interview and Pillman makes his way to the entrance.

Brian Pillman vs Alex Wright

The young German competitor ‘Das Wunderkind’ Alex Wright is out first to a modest pop from the Florida fans. Heenan gets some German jokes in as Schiavone points out that Alex Wright has made some serious waves in the industry despite being just 20 years old. Brian Pillman is out next to a good pop. He’s wearing plain black tights and certainly has a renewed sense of focus since his last WCW match, a loss to Wright at the Great American Bash. Both competitors are in the ring and this contest is underway. The bout starts with a respectful fist bump before the two men lock up and start switching holds. The duo gracefully transition from a wrist lock to Wright attempting an early German suplex from a waist lock before Pillman grabs a side headlock. He takes Alex down to the mat with a take over before Alex squirms free and bounces off the ropes. Brian ducks down to the mat so Wright jumps over him before Pillman goes for a clothesline on the rebound which Alex ducks the two then come together and take each other out with a double clothesline! They quickly get back to their feet however as the fans applaud this even opening exchange.

Wright then manages to get the upper hand with a few solid strikes as Heenan notes that Pillman has been away competing in Japan over the last couple of months, rather than resting on his laurels. Wright goes for the ten punch spot in the corner but as he gets to nine Pillman yanks him off the turnbuckle and then proceeds to brutally shop the chest of young Wright. Pillman goes to whip Wright into the opposite corner but Alex counters and Pillman goes back first into the turnbuckle. The German charges but Pillman gets a boot up and follows up with a vertical suplex to the stunned Das Wunderkind. Brian covers: one…two…NO! A decisive kick out from Wright as Pillman goes to work with some stomps to Alex as Schiavone notes Brian is definitely wrestling more aggressively as Pillman attempts a running drop kick but Wright manages to duck out of the way! Alex then nails Brian with a couple of European uppercuts that sends the older competitor reeling back into the ropes. Wright charges again but Pillman again meets him with a boot before heading to the outside to regroup. No rest for the wicked though because Wright gets on the apron and jumps off, nailing Brian with an axe handle. Wright slaps hands with the fans as this match continues, after the break.

As we come back to TBS Pillman has Wright locked in the abdominal stretch. The announces explain that during the break Alex missed a missile drop kick and Brian has been back in control since. The crowd are urging Das Wunderkind on as Pillma shakes his head and tries to wrench back even further on his opponent. He even briefly grabs the rope for leverage which shocks Schiavone but Alex manages to power through and get to the ropes. Brian charges at his foe in the ropes but he’s met with a European uppercut followed by a drop kick! Alex covers: one…two…NO! Pillman kicks out. Wright then goes for his signature German suplex but the nimble Pillman gets out of it and decks Alex with a running clothesline. He then heads up top and hits a missile drop kick of his own to Wright! Brian covers: one…two…NO! Alex kicks out! Pillman then goes to the apron and goes for the Air Pillman springboard lariat but Wright ducks out of the way and Brian crashes and burns!

Wright, seeing that this is his moment, grabs the prone Pillman and executes a picture perfect bridging German suplex! Straight into the pin: one…two…three?... NO! The moves was executed too close to the ropes and Pillman manages to get his hand to the bottom rope to break the count. Heenan notes thats the experience advantage playing into Pillman’s favour there. Wright looks to finish things off and go for another German suplex but Pillman counters into a rollup! One…two…NO! Wright kicks out but was Pillman grabbing some tights there? Alex appeals to the ref but Pillman pleads innocence before decking the inexperienced Wright with a clothesline. Brian then goes up top and hits a splash from the top rope. Brian covers! One…two…three?... NO! Alex Wright manages to get the shoulder up as Pillman looks visibly frustrated now! Brian hauls Wright up to the top rope and looks to go for a superplex but Alex counters and shoves him off the ropes down to the canvas. The German goes for a missile drop kick but Pillman dodges again but this time Wright catches the referee! The official is on the canvas and Alex goes to check on him. As tries to shake him away PILLMAN LOW BLOWS WRIGHT! Boos echo around the arena - what has gotten into Brian Pillman here! Pillman grabs Wright and nails him with his new finisher - the hangman’s neck breaker! Pillman grins to himself as he shakes the ref awake and makes the cover: One..Two…Three!

Winner in 16 Minutes (including commercials) Brian Pillman

Schiavone cannot hide his disgust as the official raises Pillman’s hand as the crowd fill the arena with boos. Heenan says Brian promised we would see a new side of him tonight and boy did we ever. As Pillman heads out of the ring and down the ramp, not even acknowledging the fans the intrepid reporter ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund appears atop the ramp and asks Pillman for a comment about what we just saw in the ring. Pillman stares a hole right through Okerlund before slapping the mic out of his hands which causes Gene to jump a mile and get a big reaction from the fans. Pillman then heads out of the arena as Alex Wright begins to recover in the ring. We then briefly cut to the announcers who hype up the rest of the card and of course remind us that on September 4th live on TNT from the Mall of America WCW Nitro makes its debut. With that we proceed straight into our next match.

Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders: The Nasty Boys vs The Blue Bloods

A real clash of styles here as the snobby Blue Bloods make their way out to the ring first. Lord Steven Regal and Earl Robert Eaton don’t have any times for the fans here in Florida as their eyes are squared firmly on the prize of a tag team championship match at Fall Brawl. The popular Nasty Boys are out next as Schiavone notes they can expect a lot more rough and tumble for this duo than the technical precision of Regal and Eaton. Regal and Brian Knobbs start this match in the ring as the bell sounds. Knobbs starts off like a house on fire and nails Lord Steven with a number of elbows to the head. The Englishmen quickly bails to the outside and flees from the chasing Knobbs but then gets clocked with a stiff headbutt from Saggs. Earl Robert gets involved and he and Saggs start fighting on the outside while Knobbs retrieves Regal and throws him back inside. Knobbs then goes to try and take Regal to the Pit Stop but Steven ducks underneath the deadly armpit and hoists Knobbs up for a back suplex. Regal then tries for a standing front face lock but Knobbs uses his power to drive him through the ropes and both men take another tumble to the floor. Eaton and Saggs are still brawling out there as we take a commercial break.

We’re back and The Blue Bloods have control as Eaton is working over Knobbs. The announcers note that Regal and Eaton have done a great job of isolating Brian because his partner has not even legally tagged in yet. Eaton tags Regal and the pair then grabs Knobbs and hit him with a double suplex before Saggs comes in to try and take out both men. Once again him and Bobby braw to the outside while Regal is left in the ring with Knobbs. Lord Steven hits an impressive double underhook suplex to his foe and covers: one…two…NO! Knobbs kicks out. Regal then locks in an STF but Brian is getting his second wind now because with the encouragement of the crowd Knobbs manages to get to the ropes!

Saggs is back on the apron now and as Knobbs crawls over to his partner Regal cuts him off. He tries to suplex his foe but Brian pushes him away and nails Regal with an elbow to the face. Brian then grabs Regal and signals for it - he hits his foe with the pit stop as he rubs Regal’s face into his armpit. You can imagine the hilarious faces Regal pulls in response to this as Knobbs finally makes the tag to Saggs! The Nasty Boys the quickly plant Regal with a double DDT and Saggs covers: one…two…NO! Eaton is in the ring to break it up! The match once again breaks down into a huge brawl that sees The Nasty Boys in their element as the tee off on their snobby opponents. Knobbs and Saggs throw Eaton the outside before they hit their Trip to Nastyville finisher on Lord Steven! The running powerslam by Knobbs is followed up with a diving elbow drop from Saggs. Jerry covers: one…two…three!

Winner in 11 minutes (including commercials) The Nasty Boys

It’s a strong win for The Nasty Boys as they celebrate in the ring while Regal and Eaton are laid out. The Nasty Boys make their way up the ramp and slap hands with the fans before the slightly disheveled from his encounter with Pillman earlier Gene Okerlund appears. ‘Mean’ Gene congratulates the duo on their win and mentions their upcoming title shot at Fall Brawl. Okerlund asks if they have a preference on who they would like to face. Knobbs screams: “Gene it doesn't matter who we face because when we get in that squared circle there’s nobody nastier than Knobbs and Saggs. Now this right here is a warning to Harlem Heat and The Stud Stable - you better be praying you lose tonight because whoever we face at Fall Brawl we’re running them over! Enjoy those titles why they last boys because on September 17th they’re coming home to Nastyville!” Saggs nods enthusiastically as the duo pose before they head to the back.

WCW TV Championship: The Renegade © (with Jimmy Hart) vs Diamond Dallas Page (with Max Muscle and The Diamond Doll)

The arrogant DDP is out to the ring next as this fast-paced Clash of Champions show rolls on. He’s got his bodyguard Max Muscle and the lovely Diamond Doll alongside him as he has his comedy cigarette in his mouth. Up next the ultimate competitor, a true warrior of the ring The Renegade is out, accompanied by Jimmy Hart. The TV Champ charges to the ring in the style of a wrestler used to compete in the WWF a couple of years ago which forces DDP to bail out while The Renegade goes through his posing routine. Page eventually gets back in the ring as the referee holds the TV Championship up and this contest is underway. Renegade starts like he’s powered by rocket fuel, decking Dallas with multiple shoulder blocks that forces Page to roll to the outside. Renegade gives chase so aggressively that he literally runs over the imposing Max Muscle only for DDP to use his momentum against him and whip the TV Champion straight into the steel steps. DDP then throws Renegade back in the ring and locks in a devastating chin lock! Page has it synched in good but the Renegade, channeling the power of the warriors, sorry renegades, manages to psyche himself up and break the hold! He then goes on a rampage with some more big shoulder blocks to DDP before hoisting Page up and delivering an impressive gorilla press slam! Renegade then goes for a big splash but Page gets his knees up! Dallas then hits a flying clothesline to the stunned TV Champion. He then follows it up with his signature Diamond Cutter! He covers: one…two…three!

Winner in three minutes and new WCW TV Champion Diamond Dallas Page

Out of nowhere DDP has his first singles gold in WCW! DDP celebrates with his entourage in the ring while a disappointed Renegade rolls out of the ring and trudges to the back, never to be seen in WCW again. Schiavone and Heenan tell us to stick with Clash of the Champions because up next we’re going to hear from WCW’s newest tag team.

A radical new tag team

We’re back live on TBS with a video package spotlighting the latest tag team coming to World Championship Wrestling. Known as The Radicals the video package shows in ring highlights of Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko training at the WCW power plant against some hapless trainees. As the training montage continues Malenko’s voice over promises to bring a radical new style to WCW while Chris Benoit promises that the duo will dominate the WCW tag team division. The package ends with the pair tapping out the trainees to their signature submission holds the crossface and the cloverleaf.

As the video package ends we cut backstage to an unimpressed Blue Bloods who have been watching the package on a monitor. Despite both Regal and Eaton still licking their wounds from their earlier loss to The Nasty Boys they have some fighting words for the new tag team. Regal says: “Goodness me they let all sorts of bloody scallywags into WCW these days. If you two gentlemen think you can come into our organisation and dominate the tag team scene then you’ve got another thing coming sunshines. I’d be very careful lads because Earl Robert Eaton and I will give you a bloody good hiding if you ever disrespect The Blue Bloods of WCW!” With that Regal and Eaton walk off as we cut to our next segment.

Inside The Dungeon of Doom

We are then transported to The Dungeon of Doom’s mysterious layer. The frightening lineup of Kamala, The Zodiac, The Avalanche and Meng are all stood around looking menacing before The Taskmaster Kevin Sullivan appears. Sullivan speaks: “Tonight Hulk Hogan the first step on our path to destroying Hulkamania is taken! Haha yes when the historians of the future look back at the death of Hulkamania they will pinpoint tonight as when your destruction truly began! Your buddies Randy Savage, Sting and Hawk have sealed their fate as well because they too will be dragged to the depths of hell hahaha!” The other members of the Dungeon then take turns to speak as Meng, who is genuinely terrifying, screams down the camera in Tongan before the other members swear by the destruction of Hulkamania. Sullivan concludes: “And remember Hulk Hogan a giant destruction is coming in your future!”

WCW Tag Team Championship: Harlem Heat © with Sister Sherri vs The Stud Stable (Bunkhouse Buck and Dick Slater with Col Robert Parker)

Back in reality The Stud Stable is making their way to the ring for this tag title shot. The main story heading into this bout has been Col Robert Parker’s advances towards Sherri who seemed to reciprocate them with a kiss on the cheek on WCW Saturday Night recently. Out next are the champs as Harlem Heat and Sherri make their way down the ramp as Schiavone notes that the fans aren’t particularly supportive of either team here but Harlem Heat seem to be more popular. Buck and Booker T start in the ring as the referee raises the belts above his head and this contest is underway. Buck and Booker lock up while Parker tries to get Sherri’s attention on the outside to no avail. Harlem Heat get the early advantage against their old school opponents and Booker punches Buck into the corner before tagging Stevie in. The pair hit a double clothesline to their opponent and Stevie follows up with a quick cover for a one count. Stevie Ray then goes to work with some clubbing blows to Buck but the momentum shifts when a backdrop is countered with a knee to the face. Buck then hits a few stiff shots to Stevie before punctuating his offence with a drop toe hold followed up with some kicks to the head. Buck then locks in a front face lock but Stevie manages to break out of it and deck Buck with a kick right to the gut. Both men manage to crawl to their corner and tag in Booker T and Slater and the two men start going at it with some heavy strikes. Buck and Stevie Ray then renew their physicality as all four me are now attacking each other in the ring! Schiavone says we will try and restore order in this tag team match as we head to break!

Back from commercial and its Dick Slater working over Stevie Ray in the ring as the announcers explain that The Stud Stable took control of the bout during the break. On the outside Col Robert Parker is still eyeing up Sister Sherri as Buck is tagged in and the veteran duo perform a double back breaker on one half of Harlem Heat. Buck then goes to work on Stevie with a side head lock but Ray powers out and whips Buck into the ropes and sends him hurtling through the air with a back drop! Stevie then hits Buck with a powerful Harlem sidekick before he manages to crawl to the ropes and tag in his partner, Booker T! Booker goes straight to the top turnbuckle and hits a missile drop kick to Bunkhouse and covers: one…two..NO! Slater comes in to break it up!

Slater and Buck go for a double suplex on their opponent but Booker counters and suplexes both of his foes! Harlem Heat are becoming crowd favourites with this performance Schiavone notes as Booker first throws Slater out of the ring before nailing Buck with another stiff Harlem side kick! Booker goes for the cover but Parker is distracting the ref! Sherri goes over to Parker, grabs him and seems to be pulling him in for a kiss… only to SLAP HIM IN THE FACE! The colonel can’t believe it and Slater tries to go after Sherri on the outside only to be met with Stevie Ray and the pair start brawling on the outside. Back in the ring Buck has recovered and he nails Booker with a running lariat! He covers: one…two…three? NO! Stevie comes into the ring having laid out Slater on the outside! Stevie then hooks Buck in the electric chair position as Booker recovers and manages to scale the ropes. He then dives off the ropes with a missile drop kick as the pair successfully hit the Heat Seeker! Cover: one…two…three!

Winners in 13 minutes (including commercials) and still WCW Tag Team Champions Harlem Heat

Harlem Heat have done it - they are still WCW Tag Team Champions. The pair actually get a little pop for their win as Sherri gets in the ring to celebrate with them. The scorned Col Parker retreats with his stable but the celebrations do not last long because here comes The Nasty Boys! Sherri rightfully bails from the ring as the new #1 contenders charge down their opponents for Fall Brawl. The quartet start brawling in the ring before they pair off with Booker and Knobbs continuing the conflict in the ring while Saggs and Stevie Ray tumble to the outside. Security, lead by the incomparable Doug Dillenger soon pile into the arena to separate the tag teams. Heenan notes there’s no way these two teams will be able to have a regular match at Fall Brawl. Security is just about holding the four men back as we cut to our next video package.

Nitro is coming soon

Our next video package details the exciting debut of Nitro coming live to TNT every week from Monday September 4th. The show will be an hour long and feature the top stars of WCW competing with each other. There’s even a very subtle line in there about the action being on fire rather than raw. The video also announces the first two matches for the September 4th show - both Hulk Hogan and Sting will defend their WCW and United States Championships respectively against challengers to be determined.

The Nature Boy and The Enforcer

Backstage ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund is standing by with Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Gene asks the duo about their conflict with Vader. Anderson replies: “Listen we put our trust in Vader to crush Hulk Hogan but unfortunately he is as stupid as he looks and he couldn’t get the job done. So big man tonight you’re about to get a lesson in class, a lesson in respect and learn the hard way nobody is on the same level as Flair and Anderson.” Flair then continues: “Mean by God Gene I have never seen a man uglier and as stupid as Big Van Vader woo! Tonight Double A is taking him to school, and speaking of school I’ve got a message for the man who learned everything he knows about pro wrestling from me - I’m talking to you Stinger! The first ever Nitro, me and you for the US Championship and I can teach you one more thing - to be the man you have to beat the man! Woo!” With that Anderson and Flair leave as we cut to break.

Vader vs Arn Anderson (with Ric Flair)

We’re back from commercial and the iconic music of the Four Horsemen hits and Arn Anderson makes his way down the aisle with a suited and booted Ric Flair by his side. The Horsemen’s ranks have been reduced to Flair and Anderson but the duo are still a formidable combination. Out next is the intimidating Vader who has become a fan favourite thanks to him turning on Anderson and Flair. Vader gets in the ring and immediately goes after Double A! Flair bales to the outside and this one is underway. Vader is unloading on Anderson with some clubbing blows as he backs The Enforcer into the corner. He then charges at Arn but the veteran moves out of the way and with Vader trapped in the corner Anderson unloads with some knife edge chops as Flair woos away at ringside. Eventually Vader counters with a stiff headbutt and follows up with a power slam! He covers: one…two…NO! Double A gets the shoulder up and quickly rolls outside to recover. Vader gives chase and he goes to whip Arn into the guardrail but Flair gets in Vader’s face and the momentary distraction allows Anderson to gain an advantage and reverse the momentum and whip Vader into the rail. Flair and Arn celebrate this like they’ve just won the World Cup but Vader quickly bounces back and chases Anderson back into the ring as Flair again gets out of dodge. As Vader gets back into the ring Arn tries to hook him for a DDT but Vader pushes Anderson into the ropes and on the rebound is caught by the big man, who delivers a devastating belly to belly suplex! He covers: one…two…NO!

Anderson again gets the shoulder up but it's been all Vader in this one so far. Vader then heads to the ropes and signals for the Vader Bomb. Flair however is wise to this and gets on the apron and distracts the big man which allows Double A to recover and club the big man in the back before delivering a back suplex off the second rope. Anderson now has control in this bout as he hits a flurry of offence to the downed Vader, consisting mostly of strikes before punctuating the attack with an elbow drop. Anderson then tries to body slam Vader but when he can’t lift him he changes tact and runs at Vader with a clothesline. The big man staggers but isn’t knocked down so Anderson grabs him and plants him with his signature DDT! Flair is already celebrating as Anderson goes for the cover! One…two…three? NO! Vader powers out at 2.9! Double A can’t believe he thought the big man was beat. Anderson then goes for his signature spine buster but Vader cuts him off with another stiff headbutt and follows up by grabbing Arn by the throat and delivering a huge chokeslam! Vader covers: one…two…three? NO! Ric Flair has put Arn Anderson’s foot on the ropes! Vader cannot believe it as he sees red and starts screaming at Ric who gets on the apron and seems to be egging on the big man to fight him. Anderson seizing the moment charges at Vader but clearly out of the corner of his eye Vader sees the enforcer coming and side steps the attack meaning Anderson nails Flair in the face! Double A then turns around, receives a hard kick in the gut and is powerbombed by Vader! The big man covers: one…two…three!

Winner in 10 Minutes Vader

Vader wins this hotly contested bout but it was an accidental shot from Anderson that not only wiped out Flair but cost him the match. Schiavone promises that we will hear from Vader after the break as we cut to commercial.

Its time, its Ric Flair’s time

We are now at the top of the ramp where Vader is standing by with the busiest man in WCW, ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund. The experienced interviewer asks Vader where he goes from here after defeating Arn Anderson. Vader responds: “The way I see it Gene that’s one down one to go! I’ve crushed Arn Anderson and now I’m coming for that coward Ric Flair. Now Flair you call yourself the dirtiest player in the game but I’m the toughest dog in the yard and when we get in the ring together again I’m gonna eat you up! We’ve faced off one on one three times in the past and I’ve never beaten you but that changes because I’m calling you for Fall Brawl! Flair you disrespected me at Bash at the Beach and at Fall Brawl you’re gonna find out that its Vader time!” Vader’s music then hits and the big man poses a top the stage to a good reaction from the fans.

New blood is coming to WCW

We then cut to a video package which is hyping four more brand new talents that will be debuting very soon in World Championship Wrestling. First we have the mysterious masked man Mr JL, who shows off his impressive high flying ability in clips from previous matches. Next we have the disco dancing Disco Inferno who seems to be focusing more on his dancing than any actual wrestling. Following him we have Eddie Guerrero who in a voiceover talks about his wrestling heritage and how he wants to make the legendary Guerrero name proud. Then we have Sabu who also has ties to wrestling royalty in the form of the Original Sheik but it's emphasised in the video that he is a specialist in hardcore wrestling. All four competitors are marked as coming ‘very soon’ to WCW.

Let me tell ya something Mean Gene

We cut from that video to backstage where the almighty babyface conglomerate of Hogan, Savage, Hawk and Sting is gathered around Mean Gene. Okerlund notes this is quite the team that’s been assembled and asks Savage first what the strategy for tonight vs The Dungeon of Doom is. “Well Gene the strategy tonight is seek and destroy ooh yeah! We’re gonna seek the Dungeon of Doom out and then in that ring we’re gonna destroy them!” Pop for some classic Randy Savage as Hawk continues: “Well! I’m gonna enjoy getting the good for nothing dirt for brains Meng and kick him all over Florida Gene! Then the rest of the Dungeon of Doom better watch out because when a Road Warrior is on a rampage there’s no stopping them!”

Okerlund then asks Sting about Ric Flair’s challenge for Nitro from earlier tonight. “Gene I’d be more than happy to beat Ric Flair live and in primetime on the first ever Nitro. You know Nature Boy we fought at the first ever Clash of the Champions and I took you to your limit then and now I’m twice the wrestler I was then so I’d be more than happy to put my US Championship on the line!” Big pop for Sting of course before Hulk Hogan comes in for the final word. “Well let me tell ya something Mean Gene. These Dungeon of Doom dudeds have been a thorn in the Hulkster’s side for months now and I can’t take it anymore jack! Tonight is the night the Dungeon is buried once and for all brother and I’m making the hulkamaniacas a promise right now that it doesn’t matter how big they are or how many of them there are I’m taking down the Dungeon! Because whatcha gonna do when the greatest four man team in WCW run wild on you!”

Main Event: Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Sting and Road Warrior Hawk vs The Dungeon of Doom (Meng, The Zodiac, The Shark and Kamala with The Taskmaster)

Its main event time at Clash of the Champions and of course the distinguished and expensive Michael Buffer is in the centre of the ring. The evil laugh that precedes The Dungeon of Doom’s entrance fills the arena as the demonic faction make their way to the ring. The Taskmaster proudly leads his stable out down the ramp as Schiavone notes that there is still the huge question of The Giant lurking - when will this absolutely enormous competitor next appear? Well before that question is answered the sound of ‘American Made’ fill the arena and here comes the faces to a big pop! They slap hands with the fans before charging into the ring and boom here we go! Hogan starts with a big boot to Kamala that floors the African competitor while Hawk takes out Meng with a running clothesline. Sting whips The Shark into the corner and nails his opponent with a Stinger splash while Macho man grabs The Zodiac and throws him to the outside. The whole Dungeon then retreat to the outside as the babyfaces stand tall in the ring to a huge pop from the fans! Schiavone tells us to stick with this match as we cut to out last commercial of the show.

Back from the break and Sting is being worked over in the ring by the physically dominant The Shark. We see a recap of the action during the break which saw a distraction from The Taskmaster lead to the Dungeon taking control. The Shark is hammering away at Sting in the heel’s corner before he tags in The Zodiac who also starts clubbing away at his foe. The former barber tries a neck breaker but Sting pushes him into the ropes and counters with a jumping clothesline. Sting looks to crawl over to his corner but the newest Dungeon member Meng gets into the ring and cuts the Stinger off. Meng and Zodiac hit a double big boot while the referee and the faces go back and forth leaving Sting vulnerable. Eventually the referee gets his eyes back on the action just in time to see Meng be tagged in by Zodiac. The Tongan whips Zodiac into the corner and unloads with some nasty chops before going for a stiff headbutt but he misses and collides head first with the turnbuckle! Sting then turns the tables and starts punching away on his tough opponent before lining up a Stinger splash but Meng counters it with a ferocious headbutt that knocks Sting down to the mat. The dazed monster then tags in the Ugandan giant Kamala who starts stomping away at the Stinger. Kamala then goes for the running splash but Sting gets his knees up! This stuns the big man and now Sting, willed on by the crowd crawls to the corner and makes the tag to Randy Savage! Macho Man comes in like a house on fire taking out Kamala with a clothesline, Zodiac with a running axe handle but he is stopped in his tracks by Meng and The Shark who get in the ring and hit Savage with a double shoulder block! At this point the match completely breaks down as Hogan and Hawk rush into the ring and all eight men are once again back at it fighting in and around the ring.

As the chaos continues to unfold in and around the ring the referee is quickly losing control of this one. He does however catch Kamala making a tag to The Zodiac who goes to hit Randy Savage with an atomic drop but Macho Man counters and with a stiff shot to the face and then scoop slams his opponent. He signals for the elbow drop but with the referee distracted and Savage perched precariously on the top rope The Taskmaster interferes and pushes Randy off the ropes to the canvas! Zodiac then covers: one…two…NO! Hulk Hogan is in to break it up! In the ring Hogan is Hulking up on The Zodiac as he nails him with a few blows to the head and follows up with a big boot of his own! Sting and Hawk are still fighting Kamala and Shark on the outside but as Hogan lines up for the leg drop Meng intervenes and strikes Hulk with a superkick! Meng then locks Hogan in a Tongan death grip and it looks like Hogan is being knocked out! Hulk slumps to the mat before Meng throws him to the outside to the shock of the crowd. Meanwhile legal man Randy Savage has managed to crawl to the corner and tag in Hawk who goes after Meng with a big clothesline but the fearsome Tongan counters with another superkick that takes the Road Warrior down. Meng then drags Zodiac back into his corner and tags himself in as Shark and Kamala work on Savage and Sting on the outside, with Hogan and Zodiac both out for the count. Meng locks in the Tongan death grip on Hawk and it completely knocks out the Road Warrior so the referee has no choice but to call for the bell!

Winners in 16 minutes (including commercials) The Dungeon of Doom

It’s a much needed dominant win for The Dungeon of Doom. Hawk and Hogan are down at ringside while the quintet then team up on Savage and Sting, laying the two megastars out. Taskmaster then retrieves Hogan’s World Championship belt from ringside before handing it to Meng. The fearsome Tongan holds it up in the air to close the show as the announcers speculate that it must be Meng who will next challenge Hulk Hogan after tonight’s dominant performance.

Great show Mach. I struggle a bit to see the Dungeon of Doom get a victory over such a stacked team but its only a Clash so it's easier to buy.

Glad to see DDP win a title quickly. The Renegade just shouldn't be in that position.

A "radical" new tag team huh? I see what you did there.

I hope Sabu gets a good push. I always wondered irl if he somehow was able to stay with WCW if he could have sent the Cruiserweight division into a different, but still just as good path.

Most of the finishes make sense to me too. Harlem Heat thankfully kept the belts. Vader looked good in his win. Once again, great show overall!

Road to the first Nitro

War Games and Hogan title match set

The main feud in WCW continues to be Hulk Hogan and his squad of Sting, Randy Savage and Road Warrior Hawk against the villainous Dungeon of Doom. Two huge matches have been set now as the feud continues to boil over. Firstly new Dungeon member Meng, who made a massive impression at Clash of the Champions using the deadly Tongan death grip to take out both Hulk Hogan and Road Warrior Hawk, has challenged the immortal one to put his WCW Championship on the line in a one on one match. Never one to shy away from a challenge, the Hulkster accepted and promised to put the big gold belt on the line at the Mall of America in the first ever Nitro main event.

Never one to be outdone however Hogan went a step further than just accepting Meng’s challenge but made one of his own. At the upcoming Fall Brawl PPV Hulk Hogan will compete in his first ever War Games match because he challenged The Dungeon of Doom to the match beyond! The Dungeon team will consist of Meng, The Shark, The Zodiac, Kamala and The Taskmaster while Hogan will lead a squad featuring Sting, Macho Man, Hawk and an as yet unnamed fifth member.

Ric Flair has his hands full

A communication error between The Nature Boy and The Enforcer contributed to Double A losing to Vader at Clash of the Champions. Despite this all appears well between the longtime teammates as Flair has a busy September ahead of him. Firstly slick Ric will renew his rivalry with Sting on the first ever WCW Nitro with the United States title on the line. Due to their common enemies an uneasy alliance has formed between Sting and Vader in recent weeks although the longtime rivals could hardly be described as friends.

Brian Pillman explains himself

At Clash of the Champions Brian Pillam showed a new side to himself when he cheated to defeat Alex Wright and used a low blow to tie his series with the German 1-1. He refused to give an explanation to Gene Okerlund following Clash of the Champions however on an episode of WCW Saturday Night he did finally offer up some kind of explanation:

“You see I’ve been in this company for six years and I’ve been the happy go lucky flyin Brian always with a smile on my face and time for the fans - and where did that get me? NOWHERE! I’m the best athlete in this business but I’ve been overlooked time and time again by this company and what really ticks me off is the likes of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and that chump Alex Wright coming into WCW and thinking they run the place. So the nice Brian Pillman showing off for the fans - that’s gone. I’m a loose cannon now and if you get in my way I’m gonna shoot you down!”

Pillman then subsequently went onto to challenge any wrestler in the world for the first WCW Nitro broadcast. The challenge was met by his opponent from all the way back at SuperBrawl II - New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Jushin Liger.

Two Title Matches set for Fall Brawl

The WCW Tag Team Championship match for Fall Brawl was set at Clash of the Champions when The Nasty Boys defeated The Blue Bloods to claim #1 contender status while Harlem Heat defeated The Stud Stable to retain the gold. These two duos have faced off multiple times already on PPV and TV through 95 so the stakes had to be raised for this encounter. WCW Management has decided to make this match a no disqualification, elimination match meaning not only are there no DQs but both members of the losing team will have to be pinned before the Championships are decided.

The other title match set for the PPV sees new WCW TV Champion Diamond Dallas Page defend against the popular Johnny B Badd. Page has been reluctant to put the title on the line and has had bodyguard Max Muscle do his dirty work however Badd managed to defeat Muscle on an episode of WCW Saturday Night. The Diamond Doll also seems to be taking a bit of a shine to Badd which has annoyed DDP. The differences between these two men will then be settled at Fall Brawl.

WCW newcomers set to debut at Fall Brawl

At Clash of the Champions WCW hyped the arrival of six brand new wrestlers. First was the technically gifted tag team of Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko. The Blue Bloods of Lord Steven Regal and Earl Robert Eaton expressed their displeasure at this new duo and WCW have signed a match to take place at Fall Brawl between the two duos.

Additionally four of WCW’s newest competitors will compete in the same match at Fall Brawl. A four corners match with the winner receiving a WCW TV Title shot has been signed for the PPV pitting Eddie Guerrero, Sabu, Mr JL and Disco Inferno against each other. As well as these six another recent WCW debutant is Scotty Riggs, who has joined up with Marcus Bagwell to form the new American males tag team.

WCW Nitro Debut - September 4th 1995
Live from the Mall of America in Bloomington Minnesota

"We are live at the Mall of America for the debut of the hottest live hour of professional wrestling! Welcome to WCW Nitro on TNT!” Eric Bischoff welcomes us to the very first edition of Monday Nitro as the camera pans around the unique setting that is the Mall of America. The camera then cuts to the broadcast position where Eric Bischoff is situated alongside Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan who remarks on what a historic night this will be. Bischoff runs down tonight’s card with Hogan vs Meng for the world title, Sting vs Flair for the US title, a live appearance from Randy Savage and our opening bout which takes place right now.

Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger vs Brian Pillman

David Penzer is in the ring and introduces Jushin Liger. A New Japan regular, he has wrestled Pillman twice before with an even record between the two Bischoff notes. Brian Pillman is out next to a decent amount of heat. Brain praises Pillman’s new aggressive side we’ve seen in recent weeks as he is now dubbing himself ‘The Loose Cannon.’ With both men in the ring this bout is underway! Right away Liger hits a kick to the gut and goes for a Liger bomb but Pillman counters with a backdrop. Brian whips his foe into the corner before unloading with some knife edge chops. This only serves to fire up Liger some more and he replies with some stiff kicks which send Pillman reeling. Jushin then bounces off the ropes and hits a successful Lou Thesz press before hammering down on Brian. Liger heads up top but Pillman bails to the outside to avoid any extra damage. That doesn’t stop Jushin though who swivels around and hits a cross body from the top turnbuckle to the outside taking both men out! This floors both men for a while however they manage to beat the ten count and get back into the ring. Liger then goes for his signature back suplex but Pillman elbows his way out of it and follows up by chop blocking his masked opponent. This brings Liger down to one knee and Pillman then hits a low spinning wheel kick which floors his foe. Pillman covers: one…two…NO!

Liger gets the shoulder up! Pillman wastes no time however in whipping Liger into the corner again and he then goes for a tornado DDT but Liger counters and slams Pillman to the mat! Liger is feeling the energy of this Mall of America crowd now and after a few more big kicks to a downed Pillman he goes for a brainbuster but Pillman halts his momentum and reverses into one of his own! He covers: one…two…three? NO! Liger again kicks out! Pillman then locks in a side headlock but Liger powers out after a brief time and runs the ropes only to be cut off again with a running knee. Now ‘the loose cannon’ is the one to scale the ropes and he goes for a diving clothesline but Liger ducks the move! Pillman turns around and is caught with a bridging Liger suplex! He covers: one..two…NO! Brian kicks out but as soon as he gets up he is met with a dropkick from Jushin. Liger then picks Pillman up for his signature power bomb but Brian counters into a Frankensteiner then straight into a pinning combo! One..two…three? NO! Liger then reverses the momentum and has Pillman’s shoulders down! One…two…three?... NO! Pillman grabs onto the bottom rope at the last possible second and saves the bout. Liger again is so quick on the follow up and this time successfully hits the brainbuster! Instead of covering though he heads up top and goes for the shooting star press! As he’s diving however Pillman rolls out of the way and the Japanese competitor crashes to the mat. Brian then picks up the prone Liger and executes his new finisher, the hangman’s neck breaker! Cover: one…two…three!

Winner in 8 minutes Brian Pillman

What a breathless opener! As the referee raises Pillman’s hand the loose cannon quickly swats it away and goes back to beating down Liger! Pillman starts kicking his downed opponent as the crowd boo but here comes Pillman’s rival Alex Wright to make the save! Brian backs down as Wright charges into the ring. Heenan mentions that the pair are tied 1-1 as Bischoff promises we will hear from Randy Savage after these commercials.

New Blood is coming to WCW at Fall Brawl

As we come back we are treated to a video package highlighting once again the new talent that is coming to WCW at Fall Brawl. In tag team action the experienced Blue Bloods of Steven Regal and Robert Eaton will take on the exciting Radicals duo of Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit. Plus in a four corners match new competitors Eddie Guerrero, Sabu, Mr JL and Disco Inferno will collide for a shot at the WCW TV Championship.

Macho Man makes a promise

The Nitro debut ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund has arrived as the esteemed interviewer introduces ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage. The iconic former world champ makes his way down to the ring to a big pop as he slaps hands with the fans before getting in the ring. Okerlund asks about War Games in 13 days time at Fall Brawl and who the fifth man is. Savage replies: “Well Gene I can’t tell you who that fifth man is yet but what I can do in front of all of these fans is make you a promise! A promise that when it comes down too it, when we’re locked inside a cage with the Dungeon of Doom that this will be the most destructive match you have ever seen oooh yeah!” The fans pop for Savage’s classic catchphrase as Savage continues; “Now as for tonight, debut of Nitro I’m here to ruffle some feathers Gene I’m here to cause just a little bit of chaos. You see I know the Dungeon of Doom are back there lurking around but let me tell you something right now! Look over your left shoulder, look over your right shoulder because just when you least expect it the Macho Man is coming to get ya!” With that threat Savage leaves the ring having put The Dungeon of Doom on notice.

We then briefly cut to a scene in the parking lot of the Mall of America where a black limo pulls up. We see a figure emerge from the vehicle but the camera cuts back to the arena as Heenan ponders just who that was as we are set for our next matchup.

WCW United States Championship: Sting © vs Ric Flair (with Arn Anderson)

The iconic music of Ric Flair hits and ‘The Nature Boy’s out first with Arn Anderson by his side. Flair is wearing blue gear with Arn in jeans and a leather jacket by his side. Flair gets in the ring as the crowd explode because here is Sting! The popular competitor slaps hands with the fans at ringside as he gets into the ring looking determined as ever to take on his old rival. Sting hands the belt over to referee Randy Anderson who hoists it above his head and this bout is underway! Sting and Flair lock up to start but the more explosive champ manages to overpower Flair who is quickly pushed down to the canvas. Sting roars and beats his chest to the delight of the fans. Flair responds with his traditional strut that draws the ire of the Minnesota crowd. Sting then attacks with a forearm and whips Flair into the corner. He goes for the Stinger Splash but Ric ducks and Sting crashes and burns. Flair then chops away at the prone Sting in the corner as the crowd ‘woos’ along before Ric turns his attention to the Stinger’s leg which stomps away at. Flair then drags Sting to the middle of the ring and goes for a running knee drop but Sting rolls out of the way and Flair crashes into the canvas. Sting then hits a standing splash on the downed Flair and covers: one…two…NO! Ric kicks out. Sting then whips Flair into the corner and looks to be going for the Stinger splash but suddenly everyone in the crowd’s head turns to who is walking down the aisle. Sting sees this movement and he too turns and sees that the man heading down the ramp is none other than… LEX LUGER! The fans cannot believe it as Bischoff screams that he’s not meant to be here. Double A also looks stunned on the floor as does a now recovered Flair in the ring. Luger simply stands there and smiles as Bischoff urges us to stay with this match after the commercial break!

As we come back Ric Flair is in control of the bout and working over Sting’s leg. The announcers tell us that Luger simply strolled to the back during the break and they are going to have an update on him as soon as they can. Flair is stomping hard on the left leg of Sting before he drags his foe into the corner. He positions Sting’s legs around the ring post and whacks them against the steel a few times as Sting screams in pain. Flair then gets back in the ring and hits a brutal looking shin breaker. Flair signals for the figure four and grabs Sting’s leg but the champ counters into a small package! One…two…NO! Flair just about kicks out but Sting is firing up now he delivers a pair of scoop slams to Ric before whipping him into the corner. He then hits a Stinger Splash to the delight of the crowd! He goes to lock in a Scorpion Deathlock but Flair kicks him away and as Sting heads towards the ropes Double A sneakily clips his ankle. Flair then grabs the stunned Stinger and locks in the figure four! Sting is screaming in agony but Ric is not relenting. With the fans behind him however Sting musters up the courage to crawl his way to the ropes and break the hold!

Flair is absolutely fuming and he goes to lock in the figure four again but this time Sting kicks Flair away and Ric bumps right into the referee! The official then goes down which is Anderson’s cue to get into the ring and absolutely plant Sting with a Double A spinebuster. Flair looks to lock in the figure four again but here comes VADER! The big man charges into the ring and takes Anderson out with a power slam. Flair tries to go low but Vader catches Ric’s hand! Flair is begging off big time now, pleading for him not to attack him but Vader doesn’t care as he grabs Flair by the throat and delivers a devastating chokeslam to Ric! Vader then gets out of the ring and admires his handiwork as the referee and Sting both come round, none the wiser as to what has just gone on. Sting despite being on one leg locks in the Scorpion Deathlock! Flair is out for the count however so Randy Anderson calls for the bell!

Winner in 14 Minutes (including commercials) and still WCW United States Champion, Sting

Sting gets the belt and holds it above his head, while spotting that Vader is also pleased with his work at the top of the ramp. An irate Arn Anderson has recovered at ringside and grabs the mic to address what’s just gone on. He says: “Now I know a conspiracy when I see one and I can see that you Stinger, you Vader and that snake in the grass Luger are up to something. I don’t even know if Luger works here but I don’t give a damn because right now I’m issuing a challenge to you two! Next week live on Nitro The Nature Boy and The Enforcer vs Sting and Vader! Then we’ll really show you who the best in professional wrestling is!” Sting beckons Arn to get into the ring as Bischoff confirms on commentary that that match is set for next week on Nitro! Flair is now coming to on the outside and doesn’t seem best pleased with Double A going out on his own and making challenges without his knowledge.

A man possessed

Backstage The Dungeon of Doom are standing by ready to cut a pre-match promo. Gene Okerlund goes to ask The Taskmaster a question but out of nowhere RANDY SAVAGE bursts in wielding a steel chair! Gene gets the hell out of dodge as the camera pans out as we see Savage take out Zodiac first and Kamala second with shots to the back. The Shark however cuts Macho off and the pair start brawling in the interview area. Taskmaster and Meng get in on the action and its looking like a three on one beatdown but Hawk and Hulk Hogan appear to a big pop to break things up! Security then pile in to break things up and hold back the men from tearing each other apart anymore. Bischoff reminds the fans to not go anywhere because two of the men involved in that wild brawl, Meng and Hulk Hogan face off next!

WCW Championship: Hulk Hogan © (with Jimmy Hart) vs Meng (with The Taskmaster)

We’re back from break with Michael Buffer in the ring to announce the Nitro main event. Meng is out first with the ringleader of the Dungeon of Doom, The Taskmaster as we see clips from Clash of the Champions where Meng knocked Hogan out with the Tongan Death Grip. The WCW Champion is out next as ‘the immortal’ Hulk Hogan makes his way down the aisle playing up to the fans. Bischoff breaks a bit of news for us as a graphic flashes up on the screen - next week on Nitro Randy Savage will face The Shark in a street fight. Both competitors are in the ring and here we go! Hogan unloads with some punches to the head to Meng - but the Tongan just shakes them off as Jimmy Hart looks horrified while Taskmaster laughs. Meng then hammers away on Hogan’s chest but the Hulkster no sells it and shakes his head causing the crowd to erupt! The pain then both bounce of the ropes and crash into each other a few times, Hogan-Warrior style before Meng catches Hogan with a kick to the gut. He then strikes Hulk with his deadly kicks a few more times before Hogan crumples to the floor. Meng then synched in a chin lock but thanks to Jimmy Hart getting the crowd going Hogan manages to power out of! Hogan then starts to Hulk Hup, he hits a few strikes but as he goes for the big boot Meng catches him with a super kick! He covers: one…two…NO!

Hogan gets the shoulder up! Hulk looks very much out for the count here as Meng then throws the immortal one to the outside. He whips Hogan into the steel barrier before whipping him back into the apron which makes Hulk scream in agony. Jimmy Hart is encouraging Hogan but then Hart gets blindsided by Taskmaster with an elbow to the back of the head! Hart falls to the ground and Hogan has seen enough. He boots Meng out of the way and goes right after The Taskmaster! He goes in hard on Sullivan with some punches that take him down but then Meng recovers and blindsides Hogan! The Tongan then throws Hulk back in the ring and gets himself in the squared circle, narrowly avoiding a count out loss. Meng then signals for the deadly Tongan Death Grip! He grabs the Hulkster by the throat and despite his scrambling around Hogan begins to fade. Meng laughs as Hogan goes from standing, to down on one knee and then finally down on both knees. We could have a new world champion here as the ref drops the arm once, then again but on the third drop Hogan shows signs of life and shaking his fists! Heenan dismays as Hulk starts shaking his whole body and begins to power to his feet! He punches Meng in the head once, twice, thrice but Meng still won’t break the grip. Hogan instead just grabs Meng and hauls him up for a scoop slam! The Tongan still gets back up though but then he gets flattened by a big boot! Hogan signals for, he bounces off the ropes looking for a leg drop - but Meng rolls out of the way! Meng then hooks Hogan for a piledriver - but Hulk counters with a back drop. The champ then bounces off the ropes and there it is - the big leg drop! He covers: one…two…three!

Winner in 8 minutes and still WCW Champion Hulk Hogan

Hogan wins! The Hulkster is still WCW Champion. But just as the referee hands him the title belt here comes the rest of The Dungeon of Doom, including a recovered Taskmaster. They put the boots to the champ but of course here comes Sting, Savage and Hawk! The trio tries to even the odds but with Hogan incapacitated its still five on three. Then emerging from the back once again, armed with a baseball bat is LEX LUGER! Luger charges down the aisle wielding the weapon as The Dungeon quickly scarper to the back. Hogan is recovering now and looks suspicious of Luger who has come to save the day.

Sting however is delighted and he and Luger share a hug much to the delight of the fans. Sting then grabs a mic: “Hulk I think we just found our fifth man for War Games!” The crowd cheer this idea but Hogan doesn’t seem too thrilled. Hulk says: “Listen Stinger I know he’s your brother but how do we know if we can trust him. He’s been behind enemy lines dude and I’ve got a lot of questions jack.” Sting isn’t thrilled with this reaction but Lex replies: “Listen Hulk I get it, but I just want to tell all these fans that I’m so happy to be back home in WCW because as of one hour ago I once again work for World Championship Wrestling. And Hogan, how about this for a deal: next week I’ll speak to you in the ring face to face and I’ll tell you exactly why I’m here.” And with that mysterious message Lex Luger leaves the ring as Nitro heads off the air with Bischoff and Heenan plugging next week’s show.

WCW Nitro #2 - September 11th 1995
Live from the Knight Center, Miami, Florida

‘We are live on TNT with the second ever WCW Nitro’ screams Eric Bischoff down the mic as fireworks go off in the more traditional arena setting in Miami Florida following on from the classic WCW Nitro opening. Before Bobby Heenan even gets a chance to introduce himself Randy Savage and The Shark emerge from the entranceway already fighting each other down the ramp. Referee Nick Patrick is following in pursuit and he signals for the bell to win as our opening contest is underway!

Street Fight: Randy Savage vs The Shark

The two competitors continue to fight on the ramp as Heenan notes that this match is being contested under street fight rules so no count outs or disqualifications and falls count anywhere. Savage seems to get the upper hand and he whips his larger foe into the apron. Macho charges at his foe but Shark grabs him and scoop slams him right down on the floor outside the ring. A brutal move for Savage to take as The Shark takes his time gloating and talking trash to the fans. Eric Bischoff then channels his inner Excalibur and runs down tonight’s card at lightning speed including Sting and Vader teaming for the first time ever and Lex Luger revealing his condition for joining Hulk Hogan’s War Games team this Sunday at Fall Brawl. Back to the action Shark grabs Savage and tries to whip him into the barricade but Macho reverses it and Shark goes back first into the steel. Savage then gestures to the crowd before heading to the top turnbuckle! He raises his hands and dives off the ropes and spectacularly nails Shark with a flying double axe handle! Savage covers: one…two…NO!

Shark kicks out! Randy then starts raining fists down on Shark before he goes to the time keeper’s area and retrieves a steel folding chair! Savage goes to whack Shark but he is met with a kick to the gut and the former Earthquake swipes the chair from Savage’s grasp. Shark then unloads on Savage with a series of brutal chair shots before he tosses the former world champion back into the ring. He whips Savage into the corner before then shoulder barging him down to the canvas. Shark screams as the fans boo before he hits a 300+ pound running hip attack to Savage who crumples to the mat. Shark then retrieves the steel chair he used earlier and hauls up Savage and hooks him for a belly to belly suplex. He then delivers the move right onto the steel chair! Shark covers: one…two…NO! Savage manages to kick out. Shark then gears up for a Shark bomb but as he goes for the running splash maneuver he’s left the chair too close to Savage who grabs the weapon and absolutely waffles the Dungeon of Doom member! This only leaves Shark staggering however so Macho first hits a running high knee, which still doesn’t take Shark down so he then heads to the top turnbuckle once again! He goes for a diving crossbody but Shark catches him and delivers a running powerslam right onto the steel chair! Shark covers: one…two..three?

NO! Savage barely gets the shoulder up as Shark admonishes the referee. He then throws the now twisted chair out of the ring before heading to ringside and grabbing the ring bell from the time keeper’s desk. Shark heads back into the ring and is lying in wait for Savage to get up and clock the Macho Man with the steel bell. Savage staggers to his feet and Shark charges at him with the bell but Randy ducks! Shark turns around and Savage nails him with a running knee to the gut. Macho Man then grabs the ring bell and clocks Shark right in the skull with the weapon which sends the the big man tumbling to the mat! Savage is not satisfied that will get him the win however so heads up top and delivers a picture perfect diving elbow drop! He comes down on Shark like a tonne of bricks before making the cover! One…two…three!

Winner in 9 minutes Randy Savage

Savage does it! He doesn’t get very long to celebrate his win however because here comes the dastardly Dungeon of Doom! Meng, Kamala, Zodiac and The Taskmaster all hit the ring and beat down Savage but here comes Hulk Hogan, Hawk and Sting! The popular superstars try and even the odds but the Dungeon are still outgunning them. That changes however when ‘The Total Package’ Lex Luger charges down the aisle armed with a steel pipe. He whacks Zodiac and Kamala with the weapon but as he goes for Taskmaster, the Dungeon’s ring leader ducks and Luger nearly clocks Hogan but pulls up at the last second! Hogan and Luger get into a heated exchange as Sting tries to separate the duo while The Dungeon use this opportunity to hightail it out of there. Bischoff promises that Luger will lay out his conditions for joining the War Games team next!

Lex Luger names his price

Back from the break and Lex Luger is in the ring standing opposite Hulk Hogan. Bischoff informs us that the pair sent Sting, Savage and Hawk away during the break as the pair wanted to talk man to man. Luger has the mic: “Firstly I wanna say its great to be back in WCW because this is truly where the big boys play!” Pop for this as Hogan applauds Lex for this remark. “Now I came back to WCW for two reasons. Reason number one was to be with my buddy Sting. The Stinger and I we’ve had our ups and downs but in this business there are very few honest men and I believe Sting is one of them.” The Miami crowd chant for Sting as Luger continues. “That brings me to my second reason for being back here in World Championship Wrestling - I want what you have Hulk Hogan. In my last match here in WCW at SuperBrawl II I lost the WCW Championship and now its time for the richest prize in the game to come back around my waist!”

Lots of oohs in the crowd as now Hogan has a mic and responds to Luger’s challenge. “Listen jack you have may have only walked back through the door here at WCW but the Hulkster is never one to back down from a challenge brother. But what I really want to know is why are you sticking your nose in my business dude.” Hogan and Luger are now closer together in the ring as the tension ramps up. Luger responds: “I’ve been helping you against The Dungeon of Doom Hogan out of loyalty to my best friend Sting. I told you I’ve come back to WCW to stand by his side and even if that means teaming up with you Hogan. So here’s what I’m proposing Hogan - at Fall Brawl this Sunday I’ll join your dream team but only if you guarantee me a shot at the WCW Championship at Halloween Havoc!”

Hogan then takes a moment to contemplate this before responding: “Luger I’ve got no problem giving you a title shot at Havoc - you’re on brother! But why the hell would I let someone on my team who is clearly only in it for himself!” Luger then starts squaring up to Hogan and it looks like things could get physical but here comes Sting down the aisle to defuse the situation. Sting tells Luger to back off before grabbing the mic. “Hulk look I know Lex can be a little direct but I promise you that he has my back. So if you’re on the same team as me, he’s on the same team as you. I can’t think of a man I’d rather go to war with than the Total Package so lets put all the BS aside and focus on kicking the Dungeon of Doom all over both rings this Sunday at Fall Brawl.”

With that heartfelt plea from Sting, Hulk Hogan is looking like he’s contemplating what to do next. Luger takes the initiative and takes the mic: “Hulk I will have your back this Sunday at War Games and then we can focus on the WCW Championship after that. Now I’m willing to shake on that deal.” Luger then extends his hand and at first Hogan looks to hesitate but eventually the duo shake on it as the crowd pop while Sting pumps his fist. Sting then raises the hands of both men and the trio pose before Hawk and Savage make their way to the ring and join in and gingerly fist bump with The Total Package as WCW’s newest superstar’s music plays.

The Dungeon Responds

From this triumphant scene we cut back to the dingy lair of The Dungeon of Doom where the full faction are assembled. The Shark, Kamala, Zodiac and Meng are standing in the background looking menacing and pulling ridiculous faces while The Taskmaster goes to speak on behalf of his group. “It doesn’t matter who you find or who you think has your back Hulk Hogan because this Sunday at Fall Brawl marks the end of Hulkamania as we know it! We have assembled the most powerful force in the history of WCW and mark my words Hogan, Savage, Hawk and even Sting - you cannot trust that snake Lex Luger! The Dungeon of Doom is dragging Hulkamania through a never-ending war and into an abyss on Sunday and then Hulk Hogan you will realise you are not immortal - you are just flesh and blood!” Signed off with a maniacal laugh, Nitro cuts to commercial.

WCW Television Championship: Diamond Dallas Page © (with Max Muscle and The Diamond Doll) vs Alex Wright

As we come back the fun loving German Alex Wright is making his way to the ring. Wright defeated Max Muscle on Saturday Night to earn this shot and has recently found himself in a feud with Brian Pillman, who cheated to defeat him at Clash of the Champions XXXI. DDP then comes out next with his entourage as Bobby Heenan swoons over The Diamond Doll. Page has a scheduled title defence against Johnny B Badd at Fall Brawl. Both men are in the ring and here we go. The duo lock up and Page has the power advantage and quickly gets Wright locked in a front facelock. He tries for a vertical suplex but Alex stands firm and counters, managing to deliver one of his own. Dallas gets to his feet pretty quickly only to be met with a running drop kick from Wright! Page then retreats to the outside but Alex decides to go one the offensive and dive through the ropes. Max Muscle then shoves his employer out of the way and Wright crashes to the floor. Referee Randy Anderson is not happy with this assist and he ejects Muscle from ringside and sends him to the back!

Despite this setback DDP has the advantage on Wright and he whips Alex hard into the ringpost on the outside, which rocks the German competitor. Page throws Wright back into the ring and begins to go to work on the German as The Diamond Doll continues to cheer on her man. Page then hits Alex with an impressive power bomb! He covers: one…two…NO! Wright gets the shoulder up! DDP then stomps on Wright a few more times before signalling for the Diamond Cutter! He goes for the move but Wright pushes him away and Dallas collides with referee Randy Anderson. Alex then grabs the discombobulated Page and delivers his signature German suplex - but there is no one around to count the pin! Page is down for a five count from the bridging move but Wright relinquishes the cover to check on the ref. At that moment Brian Pillman emerges from the crowd and darts into the ring. The referee is starting to come to but not before Pillman nails Wright with a low blow! Brian admires his handiwork as DDP comes to, grabs the stunned German and nails a Diamond Cutter! Cover: one…two…three!

Winner in 5 minutes and still WCW TV Champion Diamond Dallas Page

DDP is handed the belt by the still recovering referee as Brian Pillman jumps back in the ring and starts beating on Alex Wright. DDP shrugs and joins in the beating as poor Alex Wright is left defenceless. Not for long however because Johnny B Badd charges down the aisle and levels Page with a jumping clothesline as soon as he gets in the ring. Pillman uses this opportunity to scarper back out through the crowd. The segment ends with Johnny checking on Das Wunderkind as we cut to our next video package.

Mean Gene’s Fall Brawl Control Centre

The hardest working broadcaster in pro wrestling, Mean Gene Okerlund is in the control centre running down the card for Fall Brawl this Sunday. He first announces that a brand new match has been signed. Alex Wright and Brian Pillman are tied 1-1 so will settle their series at Fall Brawl with a rubber match. Next Gene moves on to the two matches featuring new arrivals in WCW. Firstly a four corners match featuring luchador Eddie Guerrero, masked man Mr JL, hardcore specialist Sabu and dance enthusiast Disco Inferno. The winner of this one gets a TV Championship match in the future. Another new act debuting at Fall Brawl is The Radicals, a team consisting of Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko. They take on experienced duo Lord Steven Regal and Earl Bobby Eaton. Okerlund notes Fall Brawl features two title matches as DDP defends his TV Championship against Johnny B Badd while the tag titles are decided in a No DQ elimination match as Harlem Heat defend against The Nasty Boys. Finally the two big matches are covered - War Games and Ric Flair’s clash with Vader. Okerlund gives info on how to buy the PPV as we cut back to the announcers.

Eric Bischoff is at the desk alongside Bobby Heenan and he informs the TNT audience that WCW have secured an overrun tonight so the blockbuster Sting and Vader vs Ric Flair and Arn Anderson main event can be covered in full. Biscoff also reveals our main event for Nitro #3 - Lex Luger returns to singles action in WCW vs Meng. Heenan tells us not to go anywhere as we have our final commercial break of the night.

Sting and Vader vs Ric Flair and Arn Anderson

We’re back on Nitro and it's time for our main event. Out first are the incomparable duo of Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Flair dressed in his traditional blue trunks, blue robe while Double A rocks the no nonsense red trunks we’re used to seeing from the Enforcer. The two horsemen are naturally roundly booed heading into the bout. Out next is Vader and the big man storms down the aisle and into the ring which sees Flair and Anderson bail to the outside. Out finally is Sting who is teaming with his great rival for the first time ever tonight. Sting slaps hands with the fans and gets in the ring. He and Vader stare each other down as Flair and Anderson get back in the ring. Vader gruffly gets onto the apron without saying a word to his partner as the bell rings for this contest. Sting and Double A circle each other and go to lock up but Arn pokes his face painted foe in the eye in the last second! He grabs the stunned Sting and locks him in a side headlock, then proceeding to hammer down on the skull of his foe. Sting eventually powers Anderson into the ropes and then whips him across the ring, nailing Double A with a big back body drop on the rebound. Sting then whips Arn into a neutral corner and goes for a Stinger Splash but Anderson gets a boot up. Double A then tries an early DDT but Sting counters and drives him back into his corner. Vader uses this opportunity to slap Sting hard on the back and tag himself in.

Vader then gets in the ring and starts teeing off on Anderson, and while Arn gets some shots in that barely phase the mastodon. Vader then grabs Arn and delivers a thunderous belly to belly suplex! Vader covers: one…two…NO! Flair comes in to break the cover up. Vader sees red and Flair instantly starts begging off and then flees to ringside. Vader then once again tags Sting in and gives chase going after Flair at ringside. Sting and the now recovered Double A start going back and forth in the ring while on the outside Flair manages to take advantage and send the big man knee first into the steel steps. Vader screams in pain as Flair slinks back into the ring and along with Anderson delivers a double back suplex to Sting! The referee admonishes Flair who retreats to his corner as medics check Vader’s knee on the outside. The Enforcer then tags in Flair legally for the first time in the match and slick Ric starts to work over the knee of the downed Sting, not disguising his gameplan at all against the US Champ. Flair stomps on the knee a number of times before hoisting Stinger up for a painful looking shin breaker. He tags his partner Double A back in and Arn hits Sting with a crisp vertical suplex before he starts to wrench back on the knee of Sting with a single leg Boston Crab. The Stinger is screaming in pain but somehow someway he manages to get to the ropes.

Meanwhile on the outside eventually Vader bats the medics away and he hobbles back onto the apron reaching out for the tag. Anderson however drags Sting back to his corner and tags in the Nature Boy. Flair goes for a figure four leg lock but Sting counters with a small package! One…two…three? NO! Flair barely kicks out and now Sting is desperately crawling over to Vader to make the tag but Flair is on top of it and grabs Sting by the leg and drags him back firmly into the middle of the ring! Flair then grabs Sting’s leg and locks in the figure four leg lock. Stinger is again in agony but Flair is not letting up as he screams for Sting to quit. Sting is in so much pain but he refuses to give in however after Flair continues to apply the hold Sting’s shoulder slump to the mat. One…two…three? NO! Sting gets the shoulder up. Sting’s got his second wind as he screams in defiance at Flair and beats his chest. Sting uses every ounce of strength he has left and while still in the hold manages to haul himself over to his corner and reaches out to Vader and makes the tag! The crowd explode as Vader comes in and finally breaks the figure four by flattening Flair with a running splash! Vader covers: one…two…three?

NO! Double A breaks the pin fall up! Vader then goes after Arn and whips him into one corner while Sting recovers and sends Flair into the other. The pair stand back to back in the middle of the ring, exchange a glance and then hit stereo Stinger splashes into the opposite corners to their foes, as the Nitro crowd lose their minds. Anderson then staggers back to his corner while Flair is at Vader’s mercy. The mastodon tries for a power bomb but his knee buckles and this allows Flair to deliver some knife edge chops to his foe as the crowd woos. Vader completely no sells them and roars in Flair’s face. Ric then choses the coward’s way out and tags in Anderson before bailing to the floor and running up the ramp! Arn looks perplexed but Vader’s seen enough and he tags in Sting and gives chase! Sting then charges at Anderson but Double A catches him with a signature spinebuster! Anderson covers: one…two…three? NO! Sting gets his foot on the bottom rope! Flair and Vader are now brawling at the top of the stage as Anderson tries to DDT Sting but the US Champ pushes him into the ropes and drops him with a power slam. Sting then tries to lock in a Scorpion Deathlock but Anderson counters into a small package and hooks the tights! One…two…THREE!

Winners in 14 minutes Ric Flair and Arn Anderson

Sting cannot believe it as Anderson rolls out of the ring and celebrates while Flair runs from Vader to the back as Nitro ends with the announcers plugging Fall Brawl.

I am so glad you started this BTB a bit before the first Nitro so you could avoid the whole Vader/Orndorf ordeal so that Vader can be around for this. Let's go!

Prediction Contest for WCW Fall Brawl: War Games
September 17th 1995 @ Asheville Civic Centre, North Carolina

War Games Match:
The Dungeon of Doom (The Taskmaster, Meng, The Shark, The Zodiac and Kamala) vs Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Road Warrior Hawk, Sting and Lex Luger
Dungeon got the win at Clash, Luger is making his big debut/return... going to assume the faces get the win here, though I worry The Giant could have a say in this.

Vader vs Ric Flair
IT'S TIME, ITS VADER TIME!

WCW Tag Team Championship, No Disqualification Elimination Match: Harlem Heat © vs The Nasty Boys
Two reasons. One, Heat just won the belts. Two... please don't subject me to Nasty Boys as tag champs.

WCW TV Championship: DDP © vs Johnny B Badd
Badd would actually be a fun TV champ but DDP also just won... and while hot shotting the TV belt wouldn't be unusual, I'm going to hope he retains here.

Brian Pillman vs Alex Wright
Pillman seems like one to push here.

The Radicals (Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko) vs The Blue Bloods (Lord Steven Regal and Earl Robert Eaton)
Guessing the new blood will be getting the nice debut win here.

WCW TV Championship #1 Contenders Match: Eddie Guerrero vs Sabu vs Mr JL vs Disco Inferno
Feels like the most deserving winner here. Maybe Sabu could be the darkhorse but I think Guerrero seems like the favorite here.

World Championship Wrestling presents live on Pay Per View:

FALL BRAWL ‘95: WAR GAMES

September 17th 1995 from the Asheville Civic Centre in Asheville, North Carolina

Before the show opens proper we are treated to a video package going over the main matches taking place tonight at Fall Brawl. The package first focuses on the new talent debuting here tonight as Fall Brawl makes the first PPV of what the company is already dubbing the ‘Nitro era.’ The two title matches are spotlighted next before we move on to a look at Brian Pillman’s attitude shift in recent weeks as the ‘loose cannon’ has exploded onto the scene in WCW. We then see Vader turning on Flair and Anderson at Bash at the Beach, all leading to their clash tonight at Fall Brawl. Finally we see ominous shots of the double cage as War Games takes place here tonight with Hogan’s all star team, including his #1 contender Lex Luger, taking on the villainous Dungeon of Doom.

We then cut to the arena where a typically ostentatious WCW pyro display takes place as Tony Schiavone and Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan welcome us to Fall Brawl ‘95. Guest commentator ‘The Professor’ Mike Tenay will be joining the call for tonight’s first contest, which will take place in the ring on the left hand side.

Four way elimination match for a shot at the WCW Television Championship: Mr JL vs Sabu vs Eddie Guerrero vs Disco Inferno

Out first is the luchador Eddie Guerrero, hailing from El Paso Texas. He slaps hands with the fans who are more intrigued about seeing these new wrestlers compete than cheering or booing any competitor. Tenay explains Guerrero’s rich wrestling heritage as the masked Mr JL makes his way down the aisle. Heenan gives Tenay a bit of grief for not knowing much about the mysterious masked man. Disco fever then takes hold of the Civic Centre because Disco Inferno is out next boogying his way to the ring. Tenay explains the rules to this four way match: everyone is legal and can be pinned or submitted at any time, as long as the fall takes place in the ring. There are no disqualifications or count outs. Sabu then makes his way to the ring next and the deranged relation of the original Sheik comes to the ring wielding a steel chair! He charges to the ring and this one is underway! Sabu comes out literally swinging with his chair as he cracks Mr JL across the back before the nimble Guerrero ducks the shot intended for him and gets out of the ring. Disco Inferno then decides the best course of action is to Disco dance in Sabu’s face. This initially confuses the maniacal competitor before the ECW alumnus decides to crack the chair right into Inferno’s head. Disco falls to the canvas as Sabu then delivers an incredibly impressive Arabian press moonsault to Inferno. The slingshot split legged maneuver gets a big reaction from the crowd before Sabu covers Disco: one…two…three!

Eliminated by Sabu at 2 minutes, Disco Inferno

Wow what a start by Sabu, Schiavone exclaims as Eddie Guerrero throws the discarded chair out of the ring and gets back in the squared circle while Mr JL recovers on the outside from his own brutal chair shot he received. Guerrero charges at Sabu with a clothesline but the move is ducked and Sabu goes to spring off the ropes with a cross body but as he flies back towards Eddie he is met with a mid-air drop kick! Guerrero then whips the downed Sabu into the corner and delivers a number of European uppercuts to his opponent before hitting his signature monkey flip out of the turnbuckles into the centre of the ring. He then picks up Sabu and looks to be going for a brainbuster but here comes Mr JL with a springboard crossbody from the apron to both competitors which wipes both of them out. JL then goes for a pile driver to Eddie but it gets countered with a back body drop. The frantic action continues as Sabu then nails Eddie with a springboard back elbow! Sabu covers: one…two…NO! Guerrero kicks out. JL rejoins the fray and tries a Tornado DDT to Sabu but the dangerous competitor counters the move and throws JL to the outside where Eddie is also recovering. Sabu retrieves the steel chair, sets it up in the ring and then performs his signature running cross body to the outside using the chair and the ropes as a spring and wipes both men out to a huge pop!

Sabu then grabs JL and drags him back into the ring as Eddie recovers on the outside. Sabu throws JL into the corner and then pounds him down to the the mat with a series of strikes before position the steel chair across JL’s face. He looks like he’s gearing up for Air Sabu but out of nowhere Eddie Guerrero springboards his way back into the ring and nails Sabu with a hurricanrana! Bobby Heenan along with the crowd can’t quite believe the action they’re seeing as Guerrero then hauls Sabu up and delivers a brainbuster. Eddie covers: one…two…three? NO! Sabu kicks out of the move. Guerrero then heads to the top rope but not before JL recovers (with the chair still in the corner) and chases him up the turnbuckles and takes advantage. The masked man then delivers a huge superplex which sends both men crashing to the canvas! Sabu seizes his opportunity and covers Eddie: one…two…NO! Guerrero kicks out as Sabu covers JL: one…two…NO! Sabu is frustrated as both men won’t stay down. Sabu throws Mr JL out of the ring to focus his attention on Guerrero. He grabs the steel chair once again and whacks Eddie with it as Sabu focuses on Guerrero’s back. Sabu then proceeds to plant Eddie with a scoop slam before heading to the top rope with a steel chair in hand! He then goes for the Arabian facebuster, a somersault leg drop aided by a steel chair but Eddie rolls out of the way and Sabu crashes into the mat and takes the full impact of the chair! Mr JL then comes back in, grabs the fallen Sabu and nails him with his signature cradle pile driver! He covers: one…two…three!

Eliminated at 11 minutes by Mr JL, Sabu

We’re down to two as the exciting Sabu crashes and burns. Mr JL throws the broken steel chair out of the ring once again as he squares up to Eddie Guerrero who is back on his feet. Tenay reminds us that the winner gets a shot at the WCW TV Championship. JL starts the offense off by nailing Eddie with a spinning wheel kick. He follows up with a running senton before heading to the top rope. JL flies off the ropes with a big leg drop and absolutely nails Guerrero. He covers: one…two…three? NO! Eddie gets the shoulder up. A lot of heart by Eddie here as JL then tries for a tornado DDT but Guerrero counters into an atomic drop and follows up by hitting a tornado DDT of his own. He covers: one…two…three? NO! Mr JL manages to kick out. Guerrero is on a roll here however and he hits his three signature vertical suplexes in a row before heading for the top rope! He goes for the frog splash but JL gets his knees up so Guerrero crashes and burns. JL isn’t done yet though as he hauls Eddie on his shoulders and delivers an air raid crash! He covers: one…two…three? NO! Guerrero is still fighting here as he gets the shoulder up. JL then heads up top and goes for another diving leg drop but Eddie catches his foe early, tries for a power bomb but JL counters into a frankensteiner pinning combo. One…two…NO! Eddie reverses the momentum and has JL’s shoulders down: one…two…NO! JL gets out of the pinning predicament only to turn around and be nailed by a massive running European uppercut which completely floors the masked man. Eddie then goes up top and hits the frog splash! He covers: one…two…three!

Winner in 16 minutes Eddie Guerrero

Guerrero does it, he earns a shot at the WCW TV Championship after one hell of a match. He faces the winner of the Diamond Dallas Page vs Johnny B Badd match coming up next. As Eddie celebrates at ringside by high fiving the fans. Intrepid reporter ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund is on the stage waiting to grab a word with Eddie. Okerlund commends Eddie on his impressive win and asks him how it feels to be here in WCW. “I’m not gonna lie Gene it feels pretty great to wrestle in front of these WCW fans! Tonight was a very hard match, but I hope I did the Guerrero name proud with my win tonight. I’ll have my eyes on the TV title match next Gene and I’m looking forward to wrestling whoever wins it.” As Gene wishes him well again the music of DDP hits and the TV Champ comes out with The Diamond Doll and Max Muscle by his side. Page shoulder barges his way past Eddie as the #1 contender looks perturbed by this.

WCW Television Championship: Diamond Dallas Page © (with Max Muscle and The Diamond Doll) vs Johnny B Badd

DDP is greeted with a chorus of boos as he gets into the ring and holds his TV title belt high above his head while he still has his trademark cigar in his mouth. He reluctantly hands over the belt to official Billy Silverman as Johnny B Badd then makes his way down the aisle to a decent reaction. The popular wrestler looks fired up to reclaim the championship he first won at Fall Brawl last year. The ref holds the title belt up and gets this bout underway. Page still has his cigar on him and looks to drive into Badd’s face right away but Johnny gets at DDP with a takedown and starts pounding away on the downed Dallas. Johnny kicks the cigar out of the ring before he props up Page in the corner and charges with a flying forearm. DDP gets his foot up and boots Johnny in the face before he goes for an early Diamond Cutter but Badd pushes him into the ropes and goes for his Tutti Frutti knockout punch on the rebound but Page ducks and bounces back off the ropes to take out Johnny with a big clothesline. Diamond Doll holds up a ‘10’ sign as Max Muscle looks on while DDP admires his handiwork. Page slows the pace way down and locks in a deadly chin lock and talks trash to Badd while he does it. Johnny however starts stamping his feet and getting the crowd involved before breaking out of the move with a jawbreaker. Badd then starts teeing off on Page using his boxing background to hit DDP where it hurts. Page has enough of the strikes and bails to the outside to consult with Max Muscle but Badd follows in pursuit. Diamond Doll however cuts Badd off and the momentary distraction is all it takes as DDP grabs Badd and whips him hard into the steel steps.

Page uses this opportunity to go back in the ring and while distracting the referee Max Muscle delivers a brutal slam to Badd on the outside. The referee’s count is at six as Page is happy to take the cheap win. It increases to eight without movement from Johnny but as the referee yells nine Badd springs to his feet and just makes it back in. DDP follows up however by planting Badd with a DDT! He covers: one…two…NO! Johnny kicks out. Page is fuming and he goes for a powerbomb to Johnny but Badd counters and hits his Badd day frankensteiner to his opponent right into a pin! One…two…three? NO! Page powers out. Badd has some renewed momentum now as Schiavone reminds us Badd will be facing Brian Pillman on Nitro with Eddie Guerrero also waiting in the wings for whoever is the TV Champ. After some more offense Badd again goes for that knockout blow but Page drops to his knees and begs Badd not to hit him. Johnny hesitates for a split second and it costs him big time as Page the headbutts Johnny in the groin and hits the Diamond Clash slam. Page covers: one…two…three? NO!

Badd somehow manages to kick out of that as DDP is super frustrated at this point. Once again Page signals for the Diamond Cutter! He goes to hit the move but Badd pushes him but BAM he nails Page with a Tutti Frutti knockout punch. We’re gonna have a new champ! Johnny covers: one…two…three? NO! Diamond Doll puts Page’s foot on the rope! Badd cannot believe it as Diamond Doll looks smug on the outside. Badd then heads up to the top rope to seal the deal but he sees Max Muscle looking to get into the ring so instead Badd performs the Badd mood somersault plancha to Max on the floor to a big pop from the fans! Badd then heads back into the ring but almost instantly gets nailed with the Diamond Cutter! DDP covers: one…two…three!

Winner in 9 minutes and still WCW TV Champion Diamond Dallas Page

Diamond Doll snatches the belt from ringside and goes to celebrate in the ring with Page as Max Muscle is lying on the ground still taken out from the plancha. Page holds the belt up as a dismayed Badd recovers from what just happened.

A radical new tag team

Before our next bout we have a hype package for WCW’s newest team The Radicals. The dynamic duo of Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko have been hyped up for weeks now and with their impressive combination of technical acumen and aggression promise to dominate the WCW tag team division. Lord Steven Regal and Earl Robert Eaton have been less than impressed with the hype around the duo, claiming on recent episodes of Saturday Night they haven’t impressed anyone yet. This led to the challenge for Fall Brawl and now we get to see who the most technically gifted team in WCW is.

The Blue Bloods (Lord Steven Regal and Earl Robert Eaton) vs The Radicals (Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko)

The Blue Bloods are out first dressed in their traditional aristocratic getup and looking at the crowd with an unhealthy level of disdain. Regal mouths off at the North Carolina hillbillies (his words not mine) while Eaton looks pretty confident. The two get in the ring before we hear the new theme of The Radicals (Dean Malenko’s WCW theme) and here comes Benoit and Malenko. They are sporting a black with purple highlights colour scheme on their gear, with Malenko in trunks and Benoit in long tights. Regal and Benoit look to be starting this one in the ring as the bell rings. Regal pushes Benoit away right in the face and scoffs at the Canadian competitor but that only eggs the radical on who delivers a hellacious knife edge chop that can be heard throughout the arena. Regal recoils in horror and tags in his partner to continue this match. Eaton invites Benoit to lock up and the pair tussle for position before Chris grabs a front face lock on his opponent. He takes Eaton to the mat and synches in a headlock before Eaton powers up and tries to drive Benoit back into the Blue Blood corner only for his momentum to be halted as Benoit whips him into his corner. Chris tags into Dean Malenko, who locks in a wrist lock and takes Eaton down to the mat and tries to lock in an arm bar but Bobby rolls through and makes the tag back to Regal.

Lord Steven socks Malenko with a shot right to the chops and drop toe holds Malenko to the canvas. He then goes to work on the back of Dean with some stiff knees to the back and follows up with a back breaker. Regal covers: one…two…NO! Malenko gets the shoulder up but there’s no let up from Regal who goes back to the stiff knees to the back. Regal sets up for the butterfly suplex but Malenko steps on Regal’s toe to break the hold and then takes him down to the canvas with a side headlock takeover. He wrenches Regal’s neck a few more times and then picks up Lord Steven and plants him with a vertical suplex. He then grabs Regal’s leg but Lord Steven kicks him back into enemy territory and Eaton gets a cheap forearm to the back of the head in. Regal then nails Malenko with a running knee to the gut before tagging Eaton in. The pair hit Malenko with a double vertical suplex before Benoit comes in and chases Regal out of the ring. Eaton then works over Malenko some more with some kicks and chops before planting him with a back suplex. Eaton covers: one…two…NO! Malenko gets the shoulder up. Eaton then heads to the second rope and goes for a double axe handle but Malenko catches him with a knee and and follows up with a Norther Lights suplex right into a pin! One…two…NO!

Eaton kicks out but this gives Malenko the chance to finally tag in Chris Benoit who goes right on the offence against his opponent. He whips Eaton into the corner and delivers some nasty chops before grabbing Eaton and delivering a stiff enziguri. Benoit then follows up by grabbing Bobby and planting him with a gutwrench suplex. The radical goes up top but here comes Lord Steven who pushes Benoit off his perch and he comes crashing to the canvas. The allows Eaton to take control and the honorary Englishman locks in a sleeper hold. Benoit drops to one knee and then to both as Eaton locks in the hold tightly. It looks like Benoit’s fading but he gets a second wind and breaks out of the hold and dropping Eaton on his back. Benoit then grabs Bobby and hits an amazing bridging dragon suplex! One…two…three? NO! Lord Steven Regal is in to break the move up! This results in all hell breaking loose as Regal starts beating on Benoit before Malenko comes on the scene and decks Lord Steven with a lariat before chasing him out of the ring. This distraction has allowed Eaton to get control however and he grabs Benoit and nails him with a piledriver! Bobby covers: one…two…three?

NO! Benoit gets the shoulder up and The Radicals are still in this contest! On the outside Lord Steven has gotten the better of Malenko and whipped the iceman hard into the steel barricade. Eaton then hits Benoit with an atomic drop and tags in his partner Regal who grabs Chris and sends him flying across the ring with an impressive exploder suplex! Lord Steven covers: one…two…three? NO! Again Benoit gets the shoulder up as Lord Steven is looking very pissed off now. He grabs Benoit and locks in the deadly Regal stretch. Chris could be forced to give up here as Regal has the hold on tight here. Malenko looks to make his way back into the ring and break it up but Eaton cuts him off and locks Dean in a front face lock and drags him to the outside. Benoit is desperately crawling to the ropes and somehow, someway Benoit manages to get his fingertips on the bottom rope. Regal cannot believe it and only breaks the hold just before the referee has counted five. Lord Steven drags Benoit back into the middle of the ring and tries to lock in the move again but Benoit counters with a small package! One…two…three? NO! Regal barely kicks out as on the outside Malenko manages to break free of Eaton’s grasp and bats him away with a stiff clothesline. Benoit takes advantage back in the ring and plants Regal with a vertical suplex. He then tags in Malenko who heads to the top rope and the Radicals hit an impressive release German suplex/diving clothesline combination! Malneko covers: one…two…three? NO! Eaton is back in at the last second to break it up! Eaton then decks Malenko with a clothesline before throwing Benoit out of the ring and getting into his corner. Regal crawls over and makes the tag before Eaton tries a neck breaker on Malenko only to be pushed into the ropes and met with a flying drop kick! Malenko then grabs Eaton and nails him with a power bomb! Dean then tags into Chris who bats Regal off the apron and locks in the cross face on Eaton. Malenko then ties up Eaton’s legs in a cloverleaf and Bobby has no choice but to tap out!

Winners at 16 minutes The Radicals (Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit)

The Radicals do it, they’ve defeated The Blue Bloods in their WCW debut. The serious duo fist bump in the ring before making their way to the stage where Gene Okerlund is standing by to hear from WCW’s newest duo. Gene congratulates them on their win before asking what their plans are in WCW. Benoit starts: “Gene it's real simple - right now I believe we are the best tag team in the world, whether it's Japan, Mexico, Europe or North America no one can lay a glove on us in that squared circle. Regal and Eaton you gave us a good match but you aren’t on our level.” Malenko continues: “We’re coming after those WCW Tag Team Championships and it doesn’t matter who we beat to do it. So WCW tag division - you’ve just been put on notice.” The Radicals then head to the back as we cut to the backstage area.

Flip of the Coin

Backstage Eric Bischoff is here and he is standing by with the captains of the two War Games teams in the interview area. “Fans I am here with War Games captains WCW Champion Hulk Hogan and The Taskmaster. What we’re going to do right now is flip a coin to see who gets the man advantage heading into tonight’s main event.” As Bischoff then gets the official War Games coin out of his pocket Taskmaster cuts him off; “Hogan tonight you better enjoy this moment because once that coin is flipped your fate is sealed and The Dungeon of Doom destroy Hulkamania inside that steel cage!” Taskmaster cackles maniacally and again as Bischoff goes to flip the coin Hogan retorts: “Let me tell you something Taskmaster, I’ve fought plenty of deranged wrestlers like you before dude, who thinks they can destroy the power of Hulkamania brother. But I’ve got news for ya jack, they’ve all failed just like you will in tonight’s main event.”

Bischoff is about to ask Hogan to call heads or tails when Lex Luger wonders into frame. “Listen Hulkster I got this, I’ve had luck on my side my whole life so let me tell you that coin is gonna say tails.” Hogan looks about a little annoyed by Luger’s interference but says to Bischoff: “Ok brother I’m calling it for tails.” Bischoff flips the coin as Taskmaster watches along with a smile on his face. The coin lands and Bischoff says: “And that coin reads heads fans, which means The Dungeon of Doom will have the man advantage in War Games!” Taskmaster cackles and says: “This is your end Hogan and you can’t even trust your own team!” He then walks out of frame as Luger holds his hands up: “I’ve never lost a coin flip before Hulkster, I’ll see you in the ring.” Luger walks off as an irate Hogan shakes his head.

We then cut to a video package which is hyping up our next matchup which sees ‘Das Wunderkind’ Alex Wright take on ‘The Loose Cannon’ Brian Pillman. The video shows their first good natured match at Great American Bash which Wright won before Pillman’s controversial victory over Wright at Clash of the Champions where he cheated to ensure victory. We also see Pillman’s promo from WCW Saturday Night where he outlines his change of attitude and this is exemplified by his attack on Wright costing him the WCW TV Championship on Nitro. We also see a portion of a promo from Alex on the latest WCW Saturday Night promising to get his revenge on Pillman before cutting back to the arena.

Alex Wright vs Brian Pillman

The young German star Alex Wright is out first to a decent pop as makes his way down the aisle, high fiving the fans. That is until one hooded fan absolutely nails Wright in the face with a forearm! The crowd are shocked but of course the hooded man revealed himself to be none other than Brian Pillman. The ‘Loose Cannon’ hops the guard rail and starts beating down the stunned Wright before whipping him back into the steel rail. Pillman is looking incredibly deranged as he starts chopping away at the chest of Wright as referee Mark Curtis calls for security to get out here and separate the pair. Before Doug Dillinger and the boys hit the scene however Pillman charges at Wright, only to be back dropped over the rail and into the front row! Wright then hops on the rail and delivers a diving crossbody to Pillman as both me have now hit the deck in the front row. Finally now security are here and they manage to drag both competitors back over the guard rail and into the aisle. Pillman however breaks free briefly and lunges at Wright, knocking him over with a clothesline before security grabs hold of him once again. Eventually both men are held back and then security escorts each of them to the ring as we’re still getting a match here.

Both men are in the ring as Mark Curtis rings the bell and the competitors instantly charge at each other and take themselves out with a double clothesline. Both men drag themselves back to their feet and start exchanging shots, Wright using his European uppercuts while Pillman responds with some knife edge chops as the crowd duel back and forth with boos and yays. Eventually Wright gains the advantage and tries for his signature German suplex but Brian counters with some back elbows to the face and follows up by grabbing Alex in a front face lock and then delivering a vertical suplex. He then stomps away at the downed German before locking in a seated abdominal stretch. Alex is in a lot of pain here as Pillman screams at him to quit but Wright says no and manages to power through the maneuver and turn it into a crucifix pin! One...two…NO! Pillman kicks out and instantly decks Alex with a jumping clothesline. He then picks up Wright again and plants him with a Russian leg sweep! Pillman covers: one…two…NO! Pillman in frustration then throws Alex into the second ring, which we haven’t seen used yet tonight and then goes for a springboard clothesline from one ring to the next - but Wright catches him with a jumping European uppercut! The German covers: one…two…three?

NO! Pillman gets the shoulder up. Alex then fires up the fans as he grabs Pillman for his signature German suplex. He goes for the move but Pillman impressively lands on his feet! Wright turns around and is met with a running head scissors takedown in response. Alex gets up quickly but is then nailed with a spinning wheel kick which floors him. Pillman really starts putting the boots to Wright now but particularly targeting his left arm. Brian then locks in an arm bar as Wright is in complete agony here but again the plucky German, using all the resilience he has left manages to get his foot on the rope! Pillman cannot believe it as he goes for his new hangman’s neck breaker finish but Wright counters into a backslide! One…two…three? NO! Pillman kicks out but Wright takes advantage now, grabs his opponent and delivers the bridging German suplex! One…two…three!......NO! Pillman kicks out at 2.9! Wright has all the momentum now and he heads to the top rope but as he’s so spent this gives Brian enough time to recover to yank the top rope and leave Wright crotched on the top turnbuckle. Pillman then gets Wright on the top and just hurls him from the corner in the right hand ring to the canvas in the left hand ring as Wright makes an almighty thud. Alex somehow staggers to his feet but is instantly nailed with a flying clothesline from Brian. Pillman then picks Wright up and drops him with the hangman’s neck breaker. He covers: one…two…three!

Winner in 8 minutes Brian Pillman

Pillman wins but he’s not done yet with Wright as he stomps on the German a few more times before unceremoniously throwing him out of the ring. Brian then grabs a mic as he has a few things to say. “I’m tired of facing bums like Alex Wright, who are just not on my level!” Pillman basically spits as he’s naturally pretty out of breath following his victory. “I know on Nitro I’ve got Johnny B Badd to face and let me tell you he ain't gonna last long with the Loose Cannon in the ring. You see what I did tonight, and what I’m gonna do tomorrow is going to act as a warning to all in WCW! There’s an apocalypse coming to this company and I’m leading the charge!” With that Pillman grabs a chair and throws it back into the ring before grabbing Wright and hauling him back into the squared circle. He then places Wright’s arm in the chair and stamps down on it as Schiavone shrieks that he could’ve just broken Wright’s arm. Pillman looks proud of his handiwork as he heads to the back while medics come down to check on Wright.

The Road to Halloween Havoc

Up next we get a video package hyping the spookiest night on WCW’s calendar - Halloween Havoc is live from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit Michigan on October 28th 1995. We get some clips featuring WCW’s top stars and the confirmation that the main event will see Hulk Hogan defend his WCW Championship against Lex Luger in what many are calling a dream match. The ad also of course urges WCW fans to buy tickets to the event and of course get in touch with their local pay per view provider to order now.

Tag teaming interviews

We are now hearing from both the WCW tag team champions and their challengers who are about to step into the ring for their no disqualification, elimination match. Gene Okerlund is standing by with the challengers, Brian Knobbs and Jerry Saggs, The Nasty Boys. Mean Gene mentions that the two teams have a 3-3 record against each other and this will be the final showdown between the duos. Knobbs interrupts: “Gene the time for talk is over - what your gonna see out there is nothing short of brutal violence. Harlem Heat we’re sending you on the last train to Nastyville and we’re taking back our titles!” Saggs then looks menacing before the pair storm off.

Elsewhere backstage Eric Bischoff is standing by with Harlem Heat and their manager, Sister Sherri. Bischoff asks them for their thoughts heading into this match. Sherri responds: “We’re sick of the bad smell you Nasty Boys have left on this tag team division and we’re eradicating it tonight! Knobbs and Saggs you’re both getting beat and you will never get your hands on this gold again!” Booker T then follows up: “Now dig this suckas we’ve been in the ring, two on two, six times and we’re split 50/50. But I know Harlem Heat are betta than you punk-ass bustas so you better believe we walking out of here still WCW Tag Team Champions.” With that the team head off and Bischoff throws back to the arena.

WCW Tag Team Championship, No Disqualification Elimination Match: Harlem Heat © (with Sister Sherri) vs The Nasty Boys

Out first are The Nasty Boys to a decent pop and Knobbs and Saggs are not messing about as they march down to ringside with Brian armed with a trash can and Saggs with a kendo stick. Schiavone reminds us of the rules to this one that both members of the team have to be pinned in order to win the match. There are also no disqualifications or count outs and has tornado rules.. Referee Nick Patrick will have his work cut out officiating this one as the champs Harlem Heat then make their way onto the stage. They are accompanied by Sherri but Booker and Stevie have a word with her on the stage and send her reluctantly to the back. The Heat have a mixed reaction as they’ve been showing more face tendencies in recent weeks. The champs get in the ring and hand the belts over to Nick Patrick. With that the bell rings and here we go. Saggs and Knobbs go on the offensive and start whacking the Heat with their chosen weapons Before Booker blocks a shot from Knobbs with a kick to the gut and then cracks the trash can over the back of Brian! Meanwhile Saggs and Stevie Ray have taken a tumble through the ropes to the outside and are going at it at ringside as Heenan says he’s having trouble keeping up with the action. Back inside the ring Booker goes for an early scissors kick but Knobbs counters with a headbut to the champ’s gut and follows up with a huge side slam. He then goes to the outside and grabs a steel chair while Saggs and Stevie are still locked in a fist fight that sees both men tumble over the barrier and brawl right into the crowd. Knobbs is back in the ring with a chair and swings at Booker but the Nasty gets caught with a Harlem side kick! Cover: one…two…NO!

Knobbs kicks out as Booker continues to go to work with some stomps before turning his attention to the steel chair. We then cut to a split screen as we first see Stevie Ray grab a fan’s popcorn and chuck it in Saggs’ face before Jerry responds by throwing a beer over Stevie Ray! The pair continue to fight halfway up the arena steps while back in the ring Booker goes to suplex Knobbs on the steel chair but Brian counters and delivers a suplex to Booker on the chair himself. He covers Booker: one…two…NO! The champ kicks out as Knobbs then positions the chair underneath Booker and heads up to the to the second rope. He goes for a diving knee drop but Booker moves out of the way and Knobbs crashes and burns knee first onto the steel chair. Meanwhile back on the outside Stevie Ray grabs Saggs at the bottom of the stairs and then slams his opponent over the barricade. Booker is now working over Knobbs as Stevie leaves Saggs for dead and then rejoins his brother in the ring. The pair work together and hit Knobbs with a double back drop before Booker covers: one…two…NO! Knobbs kicks out but is still in deep trouble here. Brian is then whipped into the ropes again and levels both members of Harlem Heat with a double clothesline. He picks up the steel chair and absolutely whacks Stevie Ray over the head before grabbing the staggering Stevie and taking him to pit city and rubbing his face into his armpit. Booker tries to break it up but his head goes under the other armpit! Eventually Harlem Heat get their act together and hit Knobbs with a double kick to the gut followed by a double Harlem side kick! Booker covers: one…two…three?

NO! Jerry Saggs is back in with a steel chain to break this one up! Saggs nails Booker with the foreign object before the Nasties then extended the chain between the pair and take Stevie out with a running chain-assisted clothesline. Booker gets back on the apron but again Saggs nails him with the chain and he crumples to the floor. Saggs continues to whack the downed Stevie Ray with the chain as Brian Knobbs heads to the outside and retrieves a table! Knobbs sets the table up in the ring wile Saggs plants Stevie with a running powerslam. Booker T again tries to get back in the ring but Knobbs knocks him off the apron while Saggs places Stevie on the table! Brian then heads to the top rope and delivers a diving elbow drop through the table! He covers: one…two…three!

Eliminated at 10 minutes by Brian Knobbs, Stevie Ray

Stevie is now out and Booker T is now down two to one. The Nasties then chuck Stevie out to the ring and retrieve Booker from the outside, who is now busted open from the earlier chain shot. The Nasty Boys start to get a lot of heat as they pummel Booker two-on-one in the middle of the ring, with Schiavone noting how the crowd have maybe flipped on who they thought they would cheer heading into this one. Despite the lack of table the Nasty Boys again go for their tab finisher as Saggs hits Booker with a running powerslam and Knobbs looks to hit his diving elbow drop once again - but Booker rolls out of the way! He then grabs the steel chain on the mat and waffles Sags so hard it sends him to the outside before he chucks the chain on top of him for good measure! Knobbs is now staggering to his feet and Booker nails him with a kick to the gut and follows up with an axe kick! Booker covers: one…two…three!

Eliminated at 13 minutes by Booker T, Brian Knobbs

Booker T fights back and we are now down to one on one as Jerry Saggs is coming to on the outside and realises that his partner has been eliminated. Booker is recovering in the ring as Knobbs rolls to the floor while Saggs crawls under the ring and retrieves a steel pipe. Saggs throws the pipe in the ring to use but Booker impressively catches the weapon and chases Jerry to the outside, going to hit The Nasty Boy only to be met with a low blow from Saggs! Boos echo through the arena now as Saggs then grabs the pipe and whacks it over the head of Booker a few more times, as the tag champ’s wound which he is already bleeding from is made worse. He rolls Booker into the ring and then sets him up for a power bomb! He hits the move and covers: one…two…three?....NO! Somehow Booker T kick out of the move. Saggs cannot believe it and he then gets Booker over his shoulder and goes for a running powerslam, but Booker drops behind Saggs! Jerry turns around, is nailed with a Harlem side kick but bounces into the ropes and Booker nails him with another one! Booker then gestures to the crowd and heads to the top rope and delivers a Harlem hangover leg drop! He covers! One…two…three!

Winner at 17 minutes and still WCW Tag Team Champions, Harlem Heat

Harlem Heat have done it, they are still WCW tag champs. Stevie and Sherri come from the back to join Booker T and congratulate him on that star making performance. They hold their belts high as the crowd cheer while The Nasty Boys lick their wounds on the outside. The celebrations continue before we cut to our next video package.

A giant force is coming to WCW

We then cut to a darkened room where a man, seemingly the size of a mountain walks into frame. Eagle eyed WCW viewers will recognise him as The Giant, who The Taskmaster has been teasing brining into WCW for the past few months. He stands in the room looking as scary as ever before saying: “World Championship Wrestling now has a Giant problem on its hands. 7 foot two, 500 plus pounds there isn’t a man on this earth that can stop me! I’m hear to become the most dominant competitor in the history of our sport and let me tell you that by the end of 1995 I will be holding up that WCW Championship. So whether its Hulk Hogan or anyone else you better RUN because I’m squashing you like a bug!” Giant then does his chokeslam hand gesture as we cut backstage.

Flair and Anderson’s final word

Our intrepid reporter ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund is backstage with Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Gene mentions that Vader defeated Anderson at Clash of the Champions and now Ric Flair has his shot at the big man. Before Gene finishes his line of question Double A interrupts: “You’ve got some serious mental issues Gene if you think Vader beat me at the Clash! He got lucky one time but let me tell you unless you’re a Horseman your luck always runs out. Tonight Vader gets the beating of a lifetime from a man who has already beaten him twice before! And I’ve got a ringside ticket to see you lose Vader.” Anderson then snatches the mic out of Gene’s hands now and holds it up for Flair. “Vader I’ve won more matches in North Carolina than you’ve had hot dinners, and looking at ya pal you’re a well fed man. Double A said it best: I’ve beaten you twice before and there will be no third time lucky for you fat boy! I’m the kiss stealing, wheeling and dealing son of a gun but more importantly than that I am THE man! Woo! And Vader you know what they say about beating the man but you never have and you, never, ever will!” With that Anderson shoves the mic back in Gene’s chest and the pair walk off.

Ric Flair (with Arn Anderson) vs Vader

After that cocky as ever Ric Flair promo the music of Vader hits and the big man comes out to a decent pop as the WCW faithful are embracing cheering the former champion more and more. As Vader makes his way down the entrance ramp Schiavone explains how this match came about with Flair and Anderson berating Vader for losing to Hulk Hogan back at Bash at the Beach. Vader poses in the ring before the familiar music of Ric Flair hits. Flair makes his way down the aisle in a garish pink robe while the no-nonsense Arn Anderson stands by his side. Flair gets in the ring as referee Micky Jay rings the bell. Flair circles Vader, cautiously sizing up the monster before him. Vader stands his ground, staring down Flair with unblinking intensity. The two men lock up, and Vader's power is immediately evident as he shoves Flair halfway across the ring. Flair scrambles back to his feet, a look of frustration flashing across his face. Ric then quickly retreats to the outside to converse with Double A as Vader poses in the ring to a positive response from the crowd. Flair then gets back in and Vader charges at his opponent, completely flattening him with a shoulder tackle. Flair goes to head to the outside again but Vade catches him from behind and delivers a big back suplex! He covers: one…two…NO!

Flair kicks out but its not been a strong start to the contest for the former world champ. Vader then whips Flair into the corner and Ric preforms his signature turnbuckle bump that leaves him dangling of the apron. That’s no problem for Vader who grabs Flair from the apron and tosses him back inside the squared circle. Vader then goes for a running splash but Flair thinks fast and boots Vader in the knee to disrupt his run up. Flair then chops Vader in the chest a few times but the mastodon laughs and shrugs it off! He follows this with a stiff headbutt to Flair and then scoop slams the horseman nearly through the canvas. Vader again charges off the ropes for a splash but this time Anderson clips his ankle! The angry masked man and starts yelling at Arn as The Enforcer pleads his innocence! Micky Jay is trying to get the match on track but this gives Flair enough time to recover and nail Vader with a running chop block to the back of the knee! Vader staggers and Flair then hits another chop block before whipping the big man into the corner. He executes a few stiff knife edge chops here before he then gets cocky and starts mocking Sting by pounding his chest! Flair then charges at Vader with a Stinger Splash but Vader grabs him by the throat and delivers a chokeslam out of the corner! One…two…three?

NO! Flair just gets the shoulder up but Vader nearly put him away there! Vader then goes for a power bomb but his leg is starting to hurt and this momentary hesitation allows Flair to take advantage and give Vader a thumb to the eye! Ric then charges of the ropes and delivers another running chop block which cuts the big man down to size. Flair follows up with another one that sees Vader collapse to the canvas. Flair then works over the leg with a few stomps before he balances Vader’s leg on the bottom rope and delivers a a double foot stomp to it! He also grabs the leg again and just drives it repeatedly into the mat as Anderson applauds at ringside! Vader then rolls to the outside to recover but Flair isn’t done yet as he whips Vader knee first into the steel steps before he arrogantly struts on the outside. The referee is at a five count at this point and Flair rolls back into the ring, seemingly happy to take a count out victory! Flair is celebrating like has already won as the count reaches seven while Vader is barely moving on the outside. We’re at eight and Vader is slowly getting to his feet, at nine he’s got his fingertips on the apron and he just manages to beat the count! Flair cannot believe it as he grabs the legs of the downed Vader to go for the figure four but Vader kicks him into the corner! Vader then charges and flattens Flair with a big splash and follows with a release belly to belly that sends Ric halfway across the ring! Vader covers: one…two…three?

NO! Ric again gets the shoulder up. Vader has the momentum now and drags Flair over to the corner and begins to scale the ropes. He’s taking his time due to the injured knee however which allows Flair to recover and whack Vader with an axe handle right to the back of the knee! This leaves Vader in no man’s land on the second rope which allows Flair to haul the big man up and deliver a super sized shin breaker to his opponent. Vader is now clutching his knee in agony as Flair again goes for multiple kicks to the knee as he works over the prone body part. Flair then signals for it and here it is - he synched in he figure four leglock! Flair is screaming at Vader to quit but the big man isn’t done yet as he desperately flails his arms around looking for the bottom rope. Flair realises Vader isn’t quite done yet so he hammers down with a few more elbows to the knee as Vader is screaming in agony. Vader still is not quitting however and Flair is getting frustrated and he sits up in the hold and slaps Vader in the face! This enrages the big man who clocks Flair with a punch back and puts his last ounce of effort into flipping the hold and turning it over! Now its Flair who’s the one in trouble. Anderson is pushing the bottom rope towards Flair as ‘The Nature Boy’ eventually crawls to the bottom rope as the hold is finally broken. Flair is a mess on the floor as Vader staggers to his feet and again goes to climb the ropes! He goes for his signature second rope splash but Flair gets his knees up! Ric covers: one…two…three?

NO! Vader kicks out! Flair cannot believe it! Ric screams in despair basically and now he heads to the rope himself. Vader again is getting back to his feet as Flair flies off the rop rope with a double axe handle - but Vader dodges the attack and Flair nails Micky Jay! Vader the grabs the stunned Flair and goes to give him a power bomb but here comes Arn Anderson who nails Vader in the back of the head with a tyre iron! Vader then crumbles to the mat but Flair says to Anderson he wants to punish Vader some more - Arn seems to disagree and indicates to Ric he should try and shake the referee awake but instead Flair overrules Anderson and grabs the tyre iron off him. He yells at Anderson to haul Vader up, which The Enforcer obliges and Flair then lines up to Vader with the tyre iron… but as Flair charges Vader grabs Arn and throws him towards Flair who inadvertently nails his ally! Anderson then crumples to the mat as shocked Flair has the tyre iron grabbed off him and Vader evens the score by clocking Flair right in the skull with the weapon. Vader then throws the weapon away and kicks Anderson out of the ring before signalling for the end! Despite being one knee he manages to haul Flair up and plant him with the power bomb! He collapses to the mat and covers Ric as Micky Jay has recovered and slowly crawls over to count the fall. One…two…three!

Winner in 20 minutes, Vader

Vader has done it - he’s overcome the odds and defeated Ric Flair and Arn Anderson in the corner. Heenan notes that the mix up between Flair and Anderson over whether to use the weapon again or revive the referee really cost them there. As Flair and Anderson recover Schiavone says Anderson will have an immediate chance for redemption tomorrow night on Nitro as he challenges Sting for the WCW US Championship after Double A pinned the champ in a tag match last week. We will also see live on TNT Lex Luger’s first singles match back in WCW as he takes on the Dungeon of Doom’s Meng and Brian Pillman will take on Johnny B Badd after the scuffle he had with him last week on Nitro. With that we then throw to our main event hype package.

Let the War Games almost begin

The video package serves two purposes - firstly to detail the ‘legendary’ feud between The Dungeon of Doom and Hulk Hogan - which can essentially be traced back almost to the start of Hulk Hogan’s run in WCW and secondly to explain the rules and brutality of War Games. We see clips of Hogan’s clashes with the likes of ‘The Butcher’ now The Zodiac as Starrcade 94 as well as a montage of all the faces teaming up to take on the Dungeon at Clash of the Champions. The package also highlights the arrival of Lex Luger and their future title match at Halloween Havoc. Finally we get the rules of the contest - the match starts with a four minute opening period between the opening two competitors. Then at two minute intervals alternating between teams new competitors enter the fray and the match beyond finally begins with all ten men in the cage. Victory is only attained via submission or surrender.

War Games: The Dungeon of Doom (The Taskmaster, The Zodiac, The Shark, Meng and Kamala) vs Team Hogan (Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Road Warrior Hawk, Sting and Lex Luger)

We are now back in the arena as Michael Buffer is here to mark the big occasion. He announces The Dungeon of Doom team first and out comes their first entrant: The Zodiac! The maniacal former barber makes his way to the ring and looks as crazed as ever for this contest. His opponent and out first for Team Hogan is the man called Sting. The US champ is experienced in War Games as he slaps hands with the fans on the way to the ring. Sting gets in the ring and the opening four minute period is underway! Sting charges at The Zodiac to start with and nearly takes his head off with a clothesline. The double cage surrounding the ring has a little room on the floor around both rings as Sting grabs Zodiac and absolutely launches Zodiac over the top rope and into the cage wall for a big pop! Senior official Nick Patrick is presiding over this bout, but there’s not much he can do until all 10 men are in the cage. Zodiac is crumpled on the floor between the apron and cage and Sting continues on the offensive by bashing his face into the steel a few more times. Sting then throws Zodiac back into the left hand ring and whips him into the corner and charges at him with a stinger splash but the Dungeon member dodges the move and Sting eats turnbuckle. Zodiac then grabs Sting and plants him with a neck breaker before stomping away at his opponent as Schiavone reminds us there are no pinfalls in this match. Zodiac then looks to be going for some kind of pile driver but Sting counters with a back drop that nearly sends Zodiac flying into the right hand sided ring. Sting is feeding off the energy of the crowd as he grabs Zodiac’s legs and locks in the scorpion deathlock! He can’t win the match yet but the Dungeon of Doom member is in a world of hurt. As he synched the hold in however the countdown clock ticks down to zero.

Entrant #3: The Shark

By virtue of winning the coin toss earlier The Dungeon will have the man advantage in this one as the former Earthquake charges down the aisle. He absolutely levels Sting with a head butt while he was still locking in the submission before he tosses Sting from the left hand sided ring over to the right. Zodiac recovers on the left hand side as Shark goes to work with clubbing blows to Sting before nailing the US champ with a brutal looking sit down splash! Shark continues to stomp away at Sting in the corner as the fans boo fiercely as the franchise of WCW is picked up and flattened by a scoop slam. Luckily the now frenetic pace of War Games means it's not long until Sting receives some backup as the clock once again reaches zero!

Entrant #4: Road Warrior Hawk

Hawk makes a beeline for the right hand side ring to help Sting out but he is cut off in the left hand side ring by the now recovered Zodiac! The two exchange punches as Shark continues to beat down Sting in the second ring. Hawk manages to stun Zodiac long enough to head to the top rope and deliver a spectacular diving clothesline from the left side ring to the right side ring and take the big Shark down! Sting and Hakw then grab Shark and look to give him a double suplex but the pesky Zodiac is back and he kicks Sting in the back of the leg which is enough to reverse the momentum and result in Shark suplexing both his opponents! The countdown clock one again reaches zero…

Entrant #5: Kamala

Things are going rather well for the Dungeon of Doom as the Ugandan giant makes his way to the ring as they now have Sting and Hawk on the ropes and a three on two advantage. Kamala gets in the ring and delivers a pair of headbutts to Hawk and Sting before he and Shark whip their respective foes into the corners and deliver stereo hip attacks to the popular duo. Zodiac then follows up with a running kick to both men before The Dungeon of Doom pose in the right hand ring to a lot of heat as Hawk and Sting lie in a crumpled up mess on the canvas. Their joy is short lived however because the timer is almost up for the next entrant.

Entrant #6: Randy Savage

Here comes the Macho Man! He sprints down the aisle, through the cage door as the three Dungeon members meet him in the left hand ring! He nails Shark and Kamala with a double clothesline but both big men stagger before Savage runs at them again and takes both down with a clothesline to a huge pop from the crowd. Zodiac then cuts Savage off with a gut shot but Sting and Hawk are then back in the left side ring and grab Zodiac to launch him once again into the steel wall of the cage! Zodiac is now down on the outside with Kamala and Shark woozy in the ring. The faces are ready for the Dungeon’s penultimate entrant which is…

Entrant #7: Meng

The big bad Tongan makes his way down the aisle and bursts into the ring, kicking and chopping all of his foes. Sting goes down first, then Hawk and finally Savage manages to grab a kick and looks to take the advantage but he is clobbered by The Shark. The Dungeon then take turns throwing the faces into the cage as Meng then grabs Savage and looks to choke him out with the Tongan Death Grip but Randy counters with an atomic drop. Sting and Shark plus Kamala and Hawk have paired off while just as though Savage has got Meng set for the diving elbow drop The Zodiac is back and pushes him off the top turnbuckle. Meng and Zodiac double team Savage as the clock again ticks down…

Entrant #8: Lex Luger

Its The Total Package out next but he’s come armed with a steel chair! Luger makes his way into the ring and just absolutely clocks Zodiac before making a beeline straight to his buddy Sting and hitting Shark in the back. Kamala and Hawk are still exchanging shots in the the corner while Savage and Meng go at it but the crowd are loving this Sting and Luger reunion. The pair whip Shark into the ropes and hit their huge opponent with a double shoulder block and follow it up with a double back drop that really gets the crowd going. Luger tries to lift Shark up for the torture rack as again the clock counts down!

Entrant #9: The Taskmaster

The ringleader of The Dungeon of Doom is their final entrant and he comes in and straight away breaks up the torture rack before grabbing the steel chair that Luger introduced into the bout and nailign Sting. The Dungeon seem to have he advantage now as Kamala and Meng hit stereo slams on Hawk and Savage respectively while Zodiac and Shark work over Sting and Luger. Taskmaster is directing traffic as he gets The Dungeon to dump all the faces in the right side ring before they all make their way into the left side ring. They stand in an intimidating line as the countdown to the final entrant reaches zero!

Entrant #10: Hulk Hogan

Well here comes The Hulkster! The WCW Champ has Jimmy Hart cheering him on as rips his t-shirt coming down the aisle and as he gets in the ring is surrounded by the Dungeon as the match beyond officially begins. He points at Taskmaster and lunges at him but his opponents start beating him down! Its a five on one gang mugging basically as Hogan doesn’t stand a chance against the full might of the Dungeon - or does he? Because already the WCW Champ starts to Hulk Up and rise back to his feet! He nails Shark, he nails Kamala, he nails Zodiac but Taskmaster cuts the offence off with a low blow! Meng then grabs Hogan and locks in a Tongan Death Grip! The match could be over right here but now Hogan’s team mates are on the scene to help their fearless leader! Hawk comes in and breaks the death grip as he and Meng start brawling while Taskmaster looks on n horror. Lex Luger has the steel chair once again and he nails Kamala, he nail Shark, he nails Zodiac but then he swings for the Taskmaster who ducks and LUGER INADVERTENTLY NAILS HOGAN! The crowd gasp as Luger looks stunned! Savage gets in Lex’s face as Sting comes in to diffuse the situation while Hogan lays prone on the canvas. Meanwhile Hawk and Meng are continuing to exchange shots on the floor. Meng then grabs Hawk and launches him through the cage door! The Tongan is obsessed with Hawk now however and the pair continue to brawl up the ramp!

Back inside the ring Taskmaster has grabbed the chair and The Dungeon mount an offensive as first he nails Lex while Shark, Kamala and Zodiac take down Savage and Sting three on two. Luger is out as now Taskmaster turns his attention to Hogan. He whacks Hogan with the chair a few times before locking in a sleeper. He’s trying to choke the Hulkster out but you can never count out the WCW Champion who’s arm drops once, drops twice, but he’s still got signs of life as he begins to Hulk up once again! He throws Sullivan off his back, whips him into the ropes big boot and and then drops the big leg! Hogan then turns the tide for his allies as he gets in the other ring, big boot to Kamala, big boot to The Shark and he goes for the big boot to The Zodiac but the former butcher ducks and Hulk nearly nails the recovering Luger but the Total Package catches the boot! Luger now has Hogan by the boot and it looks like he’s considering nailing his teammate but Lex respectfully puts the boot down and the two start to exchange heated words. Meanwhile Taskmaster can see how this match is going and he rolls through the open cage door to the outside as Meng and Hawk have brawled all the way up the stage and to the back. Kamala and Shark are down in the ring as Randy Savage climbs to the top rope and hits a diving elbow drop landing across both men! Luger and Hogan are still in a heated debate as Sting locks the Scorpion Deathlock onto The Zodiac! The Dungeon of Doom member is done and he surrenders to the referee so the bell rings!

Winners in 28 minutes, Team Hogan

As soon as the bell rings Luger leaves Hogan behind and embraces Sting as Savage looks on looking suspicious. Sting raises Luger and Savage’s hands up as The Macho Man is still making looking unsure of Luger. Hogan then gets in the ring and is staring daggers at Luger but Sting calms the Hulkster down and then raises his hand. Sting is playing peacemaker as Fall Brawl goes off the air but now Hogan’s next PPV challenger is Lex Luger. Schiavone does one last plug for Nitro as we cut to the credits.

September WCW news and notes

I’ll be doing some backstage news post every PPV so here’s what’s going on behind the scenes in my version of WCW in September 1995.

Turner Executives happy with WCW Nitro ratings

Two weeks into the Nitro experiment and officials at Turner are happy with how WCW Nitro has performed in the ratings. The first week ran opposed and drew a 2.9 on TNT while the following week when head to head with Raw for the first time Nitro narrowly won the race drawing a 2.4 rating to Raw’s 2.3. Initially Eric Bischoff had wanted to take more direct shots at the WWF but he’s been convinced by other higher ups in the organisation to focus on the WCW product rather than go after the WWF.

Influx of talent to continue

Along with big name free agent signing Lex Luger (who had been working on a handshake deal in the WWF for the past few months) there has been a huge influx of talent into WCW that is set to continue. From the likes of The Giant, Sabu, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Disco Inferno, Mr JL and even Scotty Riggs WCW is set to continue its hiring spree to increase the roster and also phase out some of the older names in the midcard.

International talent drive ramped up

WCW will be focusing on recruiting luchadores to increase their popularity in the hispanic community and across the border. Eddie Guerrero has already been brought in and will be receiving a significant push while other luchadores such as Konnan, Rey Mysterio Jr. and Psychosis are all on the companies radar. There is also going to be a continued working relationship with NJPW after Jushin Liger appeared on the first Nitro and there is one Gaijin name in particular WCW are keen on signing and bringing into the fold. There has also been talks behind the scenes of a women’s division starting soon.

PPV plans take shape for rest of the year

The Halloween Havoc main event is already set as Hulk Hogan, who continues to be pretty unpopular backstage due to his stranglehold on the WCW Championship over the last 15 months, will take on returning superstar Lex Luger. The next PPV is World War Three and it is widely expected that WCW is basically going to lift the concept of the Royal Rumble and use it to determine the challenger for the WCW title at Starrcade. (Basically a 60 man three ring battle royal is just an awful idea so I thought it would be better for everyone for the match to just be a Royal Rumble.)
