Wallace Langham Up For Saul Bass
In Hitchcock & The Making Of Psycho
Source: Variety

With the majority of the major roles now cast, Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho director Sacha Gervasi is now looking to fill some of the smaller – but no less essential parts – in the story of the iconic horror thriller’s birth. Saul Bass definitely qualifies as someone closely involved in Psycho’s difficult inception, and Variety reports that Wallace Langham is in talks to play him.

John J McLaughlin and Stephen Rebello have adapted Rebello’s book about Hitchcock’s legendary struggle to make the movie, which saw him digging up the financing himself after most major film players passed on the idea, ridiculing the auteur for lowering himself to shoot a crime thriller.

The cast already includes Anthony Hopkins as Hitch, Helen Mirren as his wife Alma Reville, Scarlett Johansson as eventual Psycho co-star Janet Leigh, James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins, Toni Collette as Peggy Robertson and Jessica Biel as Vera Miles.

Bass was the renowned graphic designer who crafted the main titles for the film, handled storyboards and who, despite often clashing with the director, worked on several of his films.

Langham is probably best known for his role on the long-running original flavour of TV drama CSI, but he’s also shown up in the likes of The Social Network and Little Miss Sunshine. He’ll next appear on the big screen in Ruby Sparks, the next film from the Sunshine directing team of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.

In addition to Langham, the Hollywood Reporter brings word that genre veteran Kurtwood Smith is set to play Geoffrey Shurlock, administrator of the Motion Picture Production Code, who had serious issues with some of Psycho’s content.
