To follow up on a story that was broken here on the site, The Los Angeles Times has a story today looking at WWE taking the word "Wrestling" out of their product.

When asked eliminating the word from WWE Vince McMahon said, "I think every brand has to re-create itself. I want everyone to look at us in a vastly different way than they have.

Vince also said to help in the re-branding of WWE, he is willing to invest in other media ventures, such as producing live events. Vince said, "No one does television production better than we do, it's damn near the Olympics. We know more about live event touring than anyone in the United States."

Vince also said that they hope to launch their TV network in 2012.

Do have a read of the article, it is a very good read.

Reading that I can understand why Vince wants to remove the word wrestling especially as he wants to expand more into the live events business. I did like the comment at the end when XFL and the Times Square restaurant are mentioned, Vince says that they will focus on the entertainment business from now on.

Everything they do still has ties to pro wrestling, they should just stop trying to gain acceptance into mainstream media because it's never going to happen. They should just realize that those slack jawed 40 year old virgins are the backbone of their success and trying to remove themselves from that will only bring them down. It's not treated like wrestling was treated in Japan, where the audience treated the show like going to the opera where it was considered a status symbol to be seen at.

The WWE's only form of entertainment is the actual wrestling, because the other stuff they tried just wasn't entertaining to begin with.

KFC stated this in EOR's column. WWE wants to be known as entertainment which is understandable, but there bread and butter will always be wrestling. Wrestling is what got them there and I am pretty sure it will be what they always be remembered for.
