Do you long for the days when Syfy (then SciFi and with 100-percent fewer cooking shows) was full of programs about spaceship battles and PEW PEW lasers and struggling actors with huge prosthetics on their faces? Hardcore science-fiction returns to the network this spring with Defiance, a green-screen bonanza with a video-game tie-in.
And now it has a premiere date. The previously nebulous debut of "April 2013" has been narrowed down to Monday, April 15 at 9pm, and the 12-episode first season will launch with a two-hour premiere episode.
Defiance stars Grant Bowler (the Dick in Liz & Dick) and Julie Benz (Dexter) and is set in the near future, when a collective of seven alien races in search of a new home tries to move into Earth. Naturally humans aren't too keen on the idea, and the new planetmates have difficulty living together peacefully. The show is one prong of a two-headed project; a massively multiplayer online role-playing game will also be released in April with a story that ties in and compliments complements (thank you docspector, sorry, it's Monday) what happens on screen.
Do you think this is a good idea and would it work? I've noticed a lot directors are trying to get into video games, and it's a multi-platform game tied into the show.
