Update on Drew McIntyre injury and contract status

Drew McIntyre's return to WWE television is more of a "creative issue" at this point.

McIntyre hasn't appeared on WWE programming since WrestleMania 39. He's been out of action with a health issue/injury. McIntyre worked through the injury at WrestleMania, taking part in a triple threat match where Gunther defeated McIntyre and Sheamus to retain the Intercontinental title.

In the new edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that was published today, Dave Meltzer wrote that McIntyre's return is now basically more of a creative issue than an injury one. The creative issue is in regards to what WWE wants, what McIntyre wants, and when they agree to it.

At this point, McIntyre’s return is basically more a creative issue regarding what they want, what he wants, and when they agree to it. Regarding the potential of his leaving, the time he has been out of action can be used to freeze and extend his contract if WWE so desires. WWE in the past has done that with numerous wrestlers who had expressed wanting to leave. It should be noted that McIntyre to the best of our knowledge has not asked to leave but they have not agreed to a new deal. But there is an obvious spot for him as a heel challenging Rollins.

It was confirmed in April that McIntyre's WWE contract is in its last year and the two sides aren't close to a new deal.

McIntyre changed brands in the 2023 WWE Draft, moving from SmackDown to Raw.

I like Drew but seeing new faces like Fyre/Dawn, Pretty Deadly, Waller etc... on TV is great, there's no rush to bring him back I reckon.

You got Seth and Cody as the big babyfaces if he goes heel, or you're looking towards Judgement Day if he stays face as i'd like him to stay away from Imperium for a good bit.

He'd probably immediately jump to being one of the top feuds for the new WHC. I think it makes a lot of sense.

They have Miz, Vikings, Lotharios, Indus Sher, Jinder, Imperium, MMM, Judement Day, Bronson Reed and JD McDonagh. Basically no Main Event heel except maybe Finn. Turning Drew sounds like a good plan.

I didn't realize the main event pool was so shallow before you mentionned it, tbh I didn't pay attention the draft lists, just the people they showed on TV. They need bigger names but they also should push Imperium as a serious threat to the midcard before Gunther moves up.

They could also get Braun out of the doghouse and turn him heel.

Actually got cleared from that concussion by the next Friday somehow unless he's hurt again or that's still an issue

I'd agree Imperium can be a top heel group, I think Gunther will be slotted in easily once he does drop the IC title. I think Judgment Day still works really well in their role too even if they job a lot bc of the heat they get, plus they can always put on good matches with the top faces so it's never gonna be a flat segment with them for awhile until it gets really played out if they don't make any changes. But yeah outside of that, they REALLY need some more foil for Seth assuming he's winning the WHC
