Okay, Dave Meltzer is a controversial figure in Wrestling. Some people hold his opinion as gospel, others hate him, most probably somewhere in the middle, but one point of contention for him is always his "Star ratings." Especially over the past year where his scale seems to be broken 3 times a year. As for AEW, within one show, he has given out one Five Star rating and it was from one match most of us probably didn't expect to get one before the match actually happened.

Cody against his brother Dustin Rhodes receives the coveted "Five Stars" from Daddy Meltzer and it is not a match which you'd expect him to give it at times since the stereotype from critics of him is "Flippy bullshit + Tokyo Dome = Stars galore." But the emotional bloody match which includes someone who is 50 manages to get it. This is especially big for Cody because he's had a reputation even from hardcore independent wrestling fans that he is not "as impressive a wrestler" as most people around. Granted he's had some solid showings such as against Kenny Omega and his WK match against Kota Ibushi, but this may be his best match of his career and at least from the opinion of most people, the MOTN for sure.

Here are the ratings for the entire show if you're curious:

  • Casino Battle Royale – ⭐⭐⭐
  • Kip Sabian vs. Sammy Guevara – ⭐⭐⭐1/4
  • Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky vs. Cima & T-Hawk & Lindaman – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Britt Baker vs Nyla Rose vs. Awesome Kong vs. Kylie Rae –⭐⭐⭐ (Beavie rates Kylie's adorable-ness Five Stars)
  • Chuckie T & Trent Baretta vs. Jack Evans & Angelico – ⭐⭐⭐3/4
  • Cody vs. Dustin Rhodes – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Young Bucks vs. Pentagon Jr. & Fenix – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 3/4
  • Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/4

But hey, that's just one man's opinion. Do you agree with his ratings? Do you think this a good sign for AEW? Do you not give a dam about Big Dave Meltzer? Whatever you think is up to you.

no way was y2j vs omega a 4 star plus match. It was a slow. long, uninspiring botched filled mess. Might be good enough for a tv main event but ppv no way. Meltzer orgasms over anything

Was it on the same level as their last match, no. But I think the only botch of the match was one reversal from the One-Winged Angel and the Judas Effect's execution was sloppy. What other botches were there since the word "botch filled mess" requires there to be more than a few big botches?

Jericho was all over the shop in the match, it was a decent match but no way 4 star and a bit. Omegas amtches in Roh With Davey Richards are better then this. Botches were all on Jericho side. He borched the fist lionsault and done it again straight away, plus other botches.

I think it was a very solid match and I rated it highly myself because by the end of the match I basically forgot about any major botches and they covered any mistakes, but I get where you're coming from. If anything, it proves that Kenny's one of the best in the world for doing what he can with an older opponent who is more limited than he used to be, even compared to their last match.

Besides my rating scale is superior and cuter

Yeah Omega was great, Jericho is much older and was a bit sloppy but omega is such a talent he can sort of carry it. It was still a decent watch, was not boring but it never had me on the edge of my seat like a 4 star match imo would. The great thing about forums like this is we can debate and we do not hav e to see eye to eye. it is all subjective really, no right and wrong answer

I have to get this out of the Dave gets joked by WWE fans because he rarely says anything good about WWE thus the whole "Tokyo Dome" joke and other played out things which are dumb. Dave knows what he is talking about because the guy has been doing his job for ages. Now, do I take everything Dave says as 100, no, but I can respect the guy and take his opinion and such with a grain of salt.

Also, why didn't he rate the Joshi? That is my only question.

Now as far as the match ratings I agree with them. Cody vs Dustin was the match of the night and told a great story, which I know some say is just dumb but they fail to look at it deeper. Jericho vs Omega is not quite a 4 1/4 star match maybe a four or even a 3 3/4 or even a 3 1/2. The match did have some botches, but as many as other places have reported or such. Though no matter what people who are against AEW will fine something to point at it and criticize it such the botches in the Jericho and Omega match, but refuse to see botches in WWE.

So overall, I agree with most of his ratings especially Dustin vs Cody, but we all know Beavie's is far superior.
