At UFC 129, UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo successfully defended his title with a unanimous decision over Mark Hominick. Now, it appears as if the UFC is angling towards a title fight between Aldo and Chad Mendes at UFC 133.

“I think we’re looking at Jose possibly fighting in Philly,â€￾ said UFC president Dana White. “Probably [Chad Mendes], Kenny Florian couldn’t be ready by then. Mendes is 10-0. It makes sense.â€￾

After finishing second at the 2008 NCAA Division I wrestling tournament, Mendes made the transition to MMA. He has quickly built a 10-0 record. In his last fight, he scored a decision victory over top-ten ranked Michihiro Omigawa at UFC 126.

Aldo won the then-WEC featherweight title with a TKO victory over Mike Thomas Brown at WEC 41. He defended the belt twice before making his UFC debut this past weekend.

Headlining UFC 133 is a light heavyweight title fight. Former champion Rashad Evans was set to challenge Jon Jones, but due to an injury he will now fight Phil Davis.
