UFC signs highly touted Mexican fighter Augusto 'Dodger' Montano

With its debut in Mexico coming this fall, the UFC has made a roster addition with one of that country’s standout fighters.

Augusto Montano (13-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), a welterweight who trains at the Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA camp in Albuquerque, N.M., and was part of the promotion’s development program, has signed with the UFC.

UFC officials recently announced the news of the contract for “Dodger†following an initial report from Fightland.

No date for Montano’s debut has been set, but there’s a strong likelihood he’ll be targeted for UFC 180, which takes place Nov. 16 in Mexico City.

“‘I feel very happy, also a bit nostalgic because it’s has been a bit difficult and now that we have the door open, I’m making count of all the doors we had to open before and what I had to sacrifice,†Dodger told Fightland. “All the sweat and blood we left on the road … but the best is yet to come.â€

Montano, a welterweight, has all of his wins by stoppage with eight knockouts and five submissions. The 29-year-old Mexico City native has but one loss on his ledger – a decision setback to UFC fighter Sam Alvey in 2011.

But along with being a finisher, Montano has proven to be a quick finisher. All but two of his wins have come in the first round, including eight in less than two minutes. He has won four straight, all in the first round, since his loss to Alvey.
