UFC returns to Cincinnati for UFC Fight Night event on May 10

For the first time in nearly seven years, the UFC is heading to Cincinnati for an event.

The organization will host a FOX Sports 1-televised event in the Queen City on May 10, presumably at U.S. Bank Area, officials announced Tuesday night. Prelims are expected to stream on UFC Fight Pass.

No fights are set for the card, though bookings will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets go on sale March 21. Prices haven’t been announced.

The UFC’s only other trip to Cincinnati came in 2007, when the organization visited the same riverfront arena for UFC 77. In the night’s pay-per-view headliner, local fighter Rich Franklin failed to reclaim the middleweight title from then-champ Anderson Silva. Additionally, Tim Sylvia earned a decision victory over then-heavyweight Brandon Vera in the co-headliner.

UFC 77 drew 16,054 attendees for a solid live gate of $2.54 million.

Ohio used to be annual stop for the UFC and other Zuffa promotions, including the WEC and Strikeforce. Most of the shows took place in early March as part of the annual Arnold Sports Festival, and they produced significant attendance and gate tallies at Columbus’ Nationwide Arena.

However, no UFC shows have taken place in Ohio since UFC 96 in 2009, the WEC last visited the Buckeye State in 2010, and Strikeforce’s final trip to the state came in 2012.
