Matt Wiman picked up a unanimous decision win over Mac Danzig in the first bout of the main card of UFC on Versus 6. The fight was action-packed from bell to bell, and really could have gone either way. Both fighters gave it their all, exchanging huge shots on the feet and submission attempts on the ground. Danzig worked his dirty boxing very well, but Wiman's elbows in the clinch were a notch better. Wiman won by scores of 29-28, 29-28, and 29-28.

After some leg kicks from Wiman, the fighters clinched up in the middle of the cage and exchanged blows. Danzig threw a head kick but he was off balance and Wiman ended up on top. Danzig got up and looked for a standing guillotine, but there was nothing there. Danzig was looking for the Thai clinch a lot, but seemed to actually land more when Wiman managed to get his own Thai clinch. Both fighters were throwing a ton of elbows in the clinch, and Danzig was bleeding out of his nose. Danzig responded with a couple of nice right hands though. Wiman looked for a late takedown, but was unsuccessful. The round was close, but Wiman probably eked it out.

Wiman came out in the second with more leg kicks and big right hands. More clinching ensued, with some nice elbows from Wiman. Danzig earned a very nice trip takedown. Wiman threw up a triangle attempt and switched it to an armbar. Danzig fought it it off by stacking him up, and continued to pound away on top in half-guard. Wiman then went for a kimura, but Danzig deftly defended. Wiman used a guillotine attempt to stand up, and the fighters exchanged big shots against the fence. Wiman shot for a takedown but ate a very nice Danzig uppercut late. It was another tough round to score in a very good fight.

Wiman started the third with a lot of pep, but didn't land a bunch. Once they got back against the cage again, they both opened up. Wiman with short elbows, Danzig with dirty boxing. Danzig went for a judo throw but couldn't get it. Both fighters exchanged big blows in the center again, and again against the cage. Wiman shot in for a takedown against the cage, but Danzig ended up on top. Wiman looked a bit fatigued, and Danzig took his back. Danzig looked for a choke, but Wiman slid out from underneath him and got on top. Wiman dropped some big elbows, and Danzig was swollen and bleeding. Wiman continued to beat Danzig down, but Danzig managed to get to his feet. Danzig dropped for a guillotine that was very tight with just a few seconds to go, but he ran out of time.

Danzig and Wiman met for the first time at UFC 115, where Wiman latched on a guillotine early and the referee stopped the fight despite Danzig being in no danger. They were expected to rematch at UFC Fight Night 22, but Danzig was forced to withdraw with an injury. Danzig won his last bout via KO over Joe Stevenson at UFC 124, while Wiman dropped his last matchup via close decision to Dennis Siver at UFC 132.
