Ricardo Lamas put on a great performance in his first fight in the UFC, finishing Matt Grice with a huge head kick and a swarming follow up of punches late in the first round on the UFC on Versus 4 undercard. The head kick sent Grice staggering towards the cage but he managed to stay on his feet. It only took a second for Lamas to come forward with some huge punches though, including a left and a straight right that crumpled Grice and forced the referee to jump in.

Lamas started the fight with a variety of kicks, including the switch kick to he head that he ended up using later to lead to the finish. He worked a takedown for a while in the middle of the round, holding a single leg while eating punches. He finally got the takedown, but couldn't do much with it. Shortly after the fight returned to the feet, the end came for Grice.

Grice was making his debut at featherweight after a 1-3 run in the UFC at lightweight from 2007 to 2009. Grice had won four in a row to earn his spot back in the UFC. Lamas had a long 4-2 run in the WEC at lightweight, with his only losses coming to Danny Castillo and Yuri Alcantara. This was his first fight in the UFC and his featherweight debut.
