Matt Mitrione improved his record to 5-0 tonight as he battered challenger Christian Morecraft, eventually knocking him out at the 4:28 mark of the second round.

Mitrione fired accurately and often early, peppering Morecraft over the course of the first round. At one point during the early moments, Mitrione landed a beautiful left that put Morecraft down to the canvas, but Mitrione didn't pounce. He calmly stayed away from an inviting Morecraft, who hoped Mitrione would jump into guard. Action resumed, and Mitrione dished out more punishment, dropping Morecraft in the final minute of the round. Morecraft survived.

The second round was more competitive as Morecraft was able to take down Mitrione early. Unfortunately, he was unable to work any sort of offense, resulting in the referee standing up the fight. Once on the feet, Mitrione punished Morecraft with choice shots, eventually blasting Morecraft with a two-punch combination that left him limp on the canvas. Mitrione didn't follow up the shots as he knew Morecraft was finished. The referee agreed and stopped the contest.

Mitrione entered tonight's contest undefeated at 4-0 in the UFC since his stint on The Ultimate Fighter. The former NFL lineman knocked out season ten castmate Marcus Jones in his debut with the promotion in December of 2009. He followed the impressive win with victories over Kimbo Slice, Joey Beltran, and Tim Hague.

Morecraft had amassed a 1-1 record in the UFC, losing his first professional bout of his career in his debut back at UFC 117 in August to Stefan Struve. He rebounded from the loss with a submission victory over Sean McCorkle at UFC Fight Night 24 in March.
