UFC on Fox finally returns to Seattle and we most certainly have a great card of fights ahead of you for this month's upcoming big event. Demetrious Johnson looks to cement himself as the best 125 pound fighter on the face of the earth and to do so he'll have to go through an always dangerous competitor in a man who's currently riding a 7 fight win streak and will be his toughest challenge yet.. John Moraga. Also a highly touted welterweight bout finally comes to fruition as top 5 welterweights Rory MacDonald a young burgeoning competitor from Kelowna BC will take heavy handed knockout artist Jake Ellenburger in what will more than likely be a title eliminator bout. Other fights include Robbie Lawler fresh off his knockout victory over Josh Koscheck looks to add another impressive knockout to his list as he takes on the only Afghan competitor in the UFC Siyar Bahadurzada. And Liz Carmouche looks to rebound from her loss to UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, and to do so she'll have to spoil the octagon debut of Andrade. Ladies and gentlemen, this is your UFC on Fox 8 prediction thread.
Hello everyone! Red Alex here for your UFC on Fox 8 prediction thread. After a failed attempt to win the UFC Bantamweight championship upon his first run in 2011, Demetrious Johnson dropped down to the newly created 125 pound flyweight division immediately enterting himself in the inaugural title tournament.. defeating Joseph Benavidez in the finals to crown himself the top Flyweight title in the world. While he won the title and was defending it, former Sun Devil and NCAA champion John Moraga made his way to the octagon finishing both of his fights in extremely impressive fashion. Tonight, Moraga has his chance to step up to the plate and take away the 125 pound gold for himself from Mighty Mouse. In the co main event, number 4 welterweight Rory MacDonald goes up against number 5 welterweight Jake Ellenberger in which has most certainly heated up over the last few months, and the winner will more than likely be next in line to face Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight championship. Also on the main card knockout artists Ruthless Robbie Lawler and Siyar Bahadurzada look to do battle to see who inches themselves higher on the UFC welterweight rankings, and Liz Carmouche and Jessica Andrade both seek their first UFC bout in a women's bantamweight bout. It's live, it's free, it's UFC Fox Saturday only on Fox! Let's take a look at how I think things will turn out on this memorable day.
Flyweight (125 lbs) Championship: Demetrious Johnson(c) Vs John Moraga
After defeating Ian McCall not once but twice and narrowly defeating Joseph Benavidez over the course of 5 rounds. Demetrious Johnson captured his first UFC championship and shortly afterwards defended his title against John Dodson in similar fashion. While Johnson was out defending his title and honour, emerging from the spotlight was former Arizona state Sun Devil John Moraga. Who came into the UFC in impressive fashion finishing Ulysses Gomez by first round knockout, and Chris Cariaso by third round submission earning submission of the night honours in the process. And although Mighty Mouse has been dominant over the last little while, I think tonight will be the night that his reign comes to a halt. Unlike any of his past competition, John Moraga presents a horrible stylistic challenge for the champion due to the fact that he can push himself over the course and three rounds and still finish a fight, or explode in the first round like he did in his UFC debut. I have to Moraga takes this one, but I definitely think that it'll be a tough one for him.. and I don't think he'll finish him.
Winner: John Moraga by Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47)
Welterweight (170 lbs) Bout: Rory MacDonald Vs Jake Ellenberger
I've been looking forward to this one for a long time, so if anybody's been jumping for joy for this fight.. look no further than this guy. Both Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger have had impressive UFC careers over the last few years.. Jake Ellenberger posts a 8-2 record with 5 of those wins being knockouts while Rory MacDonald is currently riding a 4 fight win streak with his latest win being over the legendary BJ Penn. I believe the key deciding factor in this fight will be the experience in which the favour will go to Jake Ellenberger. Although he had a lackluster win over Jay Hieron last October (avenging his first career loss in the process), he looked extremely impressive in his last outing where he knocked out former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate Marquardt in the first round earning himself a knockout of the night bonus in the process. Ellenberger will also have an edge in the wrestling department leaving him to control the fight, and if Rory's fights against Carlos Condit and Che Mills have taught us anything, it's that he doesn't respond well to getting punched in the face which is where Ellenberger excells the most in any area of this fight. Sorry to dissappoint my countrymen once again, but I think Ellenberger will score another early knockout, and later move on to face Rory MacDonald's team mate.. Georges St-Pierre.
Winner: Jake Ellenberger by KO/TKO in Rd. 1
Welterweight (170 lbs) Bout: Robbie Lawler Vs Siyar Bahadurzada
Robbie Lawler and Siyar Bahadurzada both have one thing in common, they love to knock people out and it goes to show by evident of their combined total of 28 wins by some form of knockout. This one is more than likely going to be a slugfest that will end up in the hands of the judges. Both of them have completely different styles though, while Robbie likes to come straight at people and knock them out (just watch his fight against Josh Koscheck) Siyar likes to catch guys coming in (watch the Paulo Thiago fight) so if these two keep it on the feet I imagine it'll have fight of the night written all over this. I believe this one will go to Lawler due to the fact that he has more experience and will probably think of a more structure gameplan to stiffle Siyar's back peddling game plan.
Winner: Robbie Lawlor by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Women's Bantamweight (135 lbs) Bout: Liz Carmouche Vs Jessica Andrade
If I was Liz Carmouche I would be pretty proud of myself, considering the fact that she put Ronda Rousey in the most danger that anybody has in the last little while. Now the Girl Rilla looks to get back to her winning ways and she has a hell of a challenge ahead of herself.. 9-2 Jessica Andrade. A native of Umuarama, Brazil Jessica Andrade will more than likely be Liz Carmouche's toughest challenge to date considering all nine of her wins she has finished. So if Liz is gonna have any chance of winning this fight she'll have to do exactly what I think she'll do, start and finish early. And I'm gonna go out on a limb and say she pulls off a slick submission win just to send a statement to the rest of the women's bantamweight division and more importantly.. Ronda Rousey herself.
Winner: Liz Carmouche by Submission in Rd. 1
