UFC on FOX 10 adds bout between newcomers George Sullivan and Mike Rhodes
After the cancellation of a preliminary-card fight this past weekend, the UFC’s return to Chicago is back up to 11 fights with the addition of a new welterweight bout.
Promotional newcomers Mike Rhodes (6-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and George Sullivan (14-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) now will round out the card at UFC on FOX 10. UFC officials announced the new fight on Tuesday.
UFC on FOX 10 takes place Jan. 25 at United Center in Chicago. The main card airs on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
On Saturday, a fight between Pascal Krauss and Adam Khaliev was scrapped from the card, taking the event down to 10 fights. But the UFC said a replacement bout would be forthcoming, and Rhodes vs. Sullivan fills that gap.
Rhodes, who trains at the Roufusport MMA camp just up the interstate in Milwaukee, will make his UFC debut after a 2-1 run for Resurrection Fighting Alliance. At RFA 10 in October, “Biggie†cruised to a unanimous decision win over Alan Jouban to win RFA’s first welterweight title. That was enough to punch his ticket to the short-notice fight in the UFC. The Iowa native’s lone professional loss came by submission to Brandon Thatch, who would go on to sign with the UFC in his next fight – where he is now 2-0.
Sullivan has won six straight fights, all under the Cage Fury Fighting Championships banner in his native New Jersey. Four of those six wins have come courtesy of his hands with knockouts, including three in a row in 2013. He hasn’t lost since April 2011 in Ring of Combat. Now the training partner of former UFC fighter Kurt Pellegrino will be looking for arguably his biggest win yet.
