UFC heads to San Antonio for 'Fight Night' card on June 28
DALLAS – Following its Saturday return to the Lone Star State for UFC 171 in Dallas, the UFC announced a summer return to Texas.
For the first time, the UFC will head to San Antonio for a June 28 “Fight Night†card. UFC President Dana White announced the news at the UFC 171 post-event news conference at American Airlines Center in Dallas.
No headliner was announced for the card, which will take place at AT&T Center, the home of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs. Although the UFC has not visited the city and venue, the now-defunct WEC put on a card there in October 2009 headlined by a title fight between Benson Henderson and challenger Donald Cerrone.
The event will be the UFC’s eighth trip to Texas, and its fifth different location in the state. UFC 171 was the promotion’s second trip to Dallas. Houston has hosted three events. Austin has hosted one, as has Fort Hood for the UFC’s second “Fight for the Troops†show.
The UFC only has one other event booked for June right now. UFC 174 is set for June 14 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
