UFC Fight Night 38 bonuses: Henderson wins $100,000, Rua, Pepey earn $50,000
NATAL, Brazil – Dan Henderson, Mauricio Rua and Godofredo Pepey each earned $50,000 bonuses for their performances at Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 38 event, and Henderson doubled up with another $50,000.
Henderson and Rua earned the “Fight of the Night,†while Henderson and Pepey each won “Performance of the Night†honors.
UFC Fight Night 38 took place at Ginasio Nelio Dias in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The main card aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
In the main event, a rematch of their epic 2011 fight, Henderson (30-11 MMA, 7-5 UFC) and Rua (22-9 MMA, 6-7 UFC) appeared to be on their way to a potentially one-sided affair. “Shogun†seemed to do damage to Henderson in the first two rounds, and nearly had him finished. But in the third, Henderson and his legendary right hand pulled it out, getting the TKO stoppage – and probably breaking Rua’s nose in the process.
In the opening fight of the night, Pepey (10-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) electrified the crowd when he delivered a massive flying knee to Noad Lahat (7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC). Lahat, making his UFC debut, crumpled to the canvas, out cold in the first round.
