UFC Fight Night 37 medical suspensions: Manuwa, Johnson out up to six months
Five fighters, including headliner Jimi Manuwa, face medical suspensions of up to six months following this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 37 event.
The show, which streamed on UFC Fight Pass, took place March 8 at London’s O2 Arena. With no athletic commission in England, the UFC self-regulated the event.
While all fighters from the nine-bout lineup were issued mandatory suspensions (usually for precautionary reasons) of seven to 30 days, five competitors were given 180-day suspensions that can end early with a doctor’s clearance.
Manuwa, for example, suffered a second-round loss to fellow light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson in the event’s headliner. He can return early from a 180-day suspension if given orthopedic clearance for both thumbs and his right finger.
The other 180-day suspensions (via mixedmartialarts.com) included:
Michael Johnson (def. Melvin Guillard): can be cleared early with X-ray of left hand
Brad Pickett (def. Neil Seery): can be cleared early with MRI of neck
Gunnar Nelson (def. Omari Akhmedov): can be cleared early with MRI of left knee
Brad Scott (def. by Claudio Henrique da Silva): can be cleared early with MRI of right shoulder
